hi all this is Mike (used to be from STL),

    Congrat to Shota for winning the tourney, man does that mean i have to now learn (finally) how to duck elbow palm? ^^;

It is good to see the old Chicago group are playing again, especially Harold. Are you guys going anywhere on...let's say April27-May6th? I may have time for a visit, hopefully i will be less scruby this time (took me years to realize how bad my Lau was).

Nice to see the STL group finally emerging from the US gathering scene. Good work Eric for losing to Shota (twice!) /versus/images/icons/crazy.gif , but seriously i am impressed. When i first heard from Alfred i thought you played Lion /versus/images/icons/shocked.gif, can't believe my ears(eh, eyes) that your Akira improved that much. And Tii, look what a monster i've created! (pardon me for taking a little credit here ehum) A barely 2 month old Jacky, mean, frame conscious and just plain cheap! (The last part is a direct quote from Eric /versus/images/icons/wink.gif ) Good courage Tim, for playing Aoi in your first Tourney /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

btw, I see Rodney has deserted his Omaha gangs again ... bad Rodney bad !/versus/images/icons/cool.gif (sorry can't resist)

Actually, I was 1-2. I lost to Nutlog, beat somebody and then lost to LonelyFighter's Shun handstand dance. :p Anyway, I got some revenge later though. Hehe. Didn't get to see the finals or play Shota unfortunately...maybe next time.

I first have to thank all of the people that attended E6 for Vf4. I was in shock when I saw all these vf players, I didn't know what to do or who to play first! It was indeed a pleasure to have so much variety to choose from after the tourney.
Mike: I'm sorry I missed you when you were in town last time, but I was really sick. I wanted to pick your brain while you were here about vf as much as possible, but the gods struck me down with a virus! I now know what I missed when you were here, a vf education. I hope to see you soon!
Shota: Thanks for answering some of my questions pertaining to vf4 and yes I will look you up when I'm in Chi-town for some yakiniku! Yummy!
Eric: Akira must die! Seriously, That was some of the best I have seen you play! Thanks for coming through and representing STL.
Tii: All I have to say is you are a fast learner and suprised the hell out of me! Please! I need hella help to a better understanding of frame data and how to apply it. Ever since I got back from the tourney that's all I have been thinking about. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
As for the rest of the people at the tourney Nutlog, Lonelyfighter, zerochan, dennis, panther, etc. (I'm sorry if I forgot anyone's name) Thanks for making my 1st tourney a great memory. Look forward to seeing all of you again in the future.
    Late
    P.S.
Alfred, wish you could of come to E6, just wanted to let you know that you were missed.

E6 was pretty much the first time I've competed in any kind of large tourney and I was glad to be able to play against some proficient competition.

Hopefully, everyone can make it to the upcoming STL VF tournament that we're planning out right now.

Some thoughts off the top of my head...

    Chicago

    Shota
I wish I knew you were coming ahead of time so I could prepare a bit better against you. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif But, as expected, you lived up to all of the reports I've read about your past play. All of the moves you used against me are very frame safe and there were some situations that I was unfamiliar with which you took full advantage of. I had to pull out about every trick I had with Akira to compete. Yes, I was saving d + k g cancel into shoulder ram just for you. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif Hopefully, the next time we meet up, the matches between us will be a bit closer.

    Reiji
Although, I only played you once in the tournament, it looks like your Sarah is coming along well. I think if you had been able to abuse the Flamingo stance on me, I might have lost. It did appear that you were taking some large risks with doing the Dragon Smash Cannon without any kind of defensive manuveurs when it is blocked or it misses.

    Harold
I was quite impressed by your flashy Jacky....something we're not accustomed to in STL. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif I fell for the Shuffle Step K cancel once and auto inashi -> throw but like Reiji, I unfortunately wasn't able to play you outside of the tournament.

    Crewwolfy
I believe I only played against your Vanessa for a few matches and broke quite a few throws. I'm far from a Vanessa expert but you may want to look into other followups to the crumples instead of low throw since both can be broken.

    Omaha

I think as a whole your group plays at a good level but maybe due to tourney jitters, you guys didn't do E-DTE or similar moves in situations where I had the advantage in frames like when I did high P counter hit.

    Nutlog
Thanks for enlightening me with the Sarah info after the tournament and beating me down with her. That experience
will prove to be useful in the future I think. Oh, I didn't mean to pick Lego Akira when we played either. I'm not sure what happened there as I didn't hold down the buttons. Your Wolf may want do some more catch throws or delayed knee to my E-DTE/R-DTE because I noticed that I broke somewhere around 6 throws in a row.

    lonelyfighter
We should have played a bit more of Shun vs Akira as I would have liked to get the practice in. I primarily remember the Jef vs Akira matches, especially breaking Splash Mountain and then doing the wall jump kick combo. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif From what I've seen of our Jef player, you should do more throw mixups and hits after pickup to create more of a guessing game.

    Sausageman
You have my condolences for your Lion that was lost. We only played a few matches before & after the tourney but I distinctly remember that you evaded a bit too much. It seemed like your play was poke, evade, repeat.

I'll post a bit more later on.

Heh, I remember the stories you told me of Shota and Harold destroying you before so I was a bit intimidated to see them in the tournament. Shota's Lau greatly reminded me of your Lau that killed me 30-0 just a few months ago, but as always, you pointed out the problematic areas in my play and I like to think that I've improved upon them. I think I'll just save Lion for when we play since I know ho wmuch you like him. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

I agree completly with your assesment of my play. I got too concentrated on hitting Splash Mountain and wasnt really mixing it up at all. Where i should of been doing b+p->DRC->b+p and other mixups i was just doing b+p->DRC->Splash Mountain. My OS game needs a considerable amount of work as well i see that very clearly now.

P.S yes you did kill me with the off the wall kick but do i need to say how many backthrows you got hit with:)

Whats up ALL, sorry i just found this thread late, i truly enjoyed meeting all who i got to chat with, such as Kaminari_Oyaji, and ERIC for sure, and of course T5 is my friend from the last 2 years of TTT, I have to come to STL in june Tii to see you off, you stl folks that i met from TTT are like extended family to me, and i will be sure to get down there, i truly respect your skills T and you are better than i imagined and i wasnt prepared for what ERIC and the the guy that took first place had in store, i think i did well however seein as i have NO human comp here and only played the computer, I still think i came in about 7th place.. i just found out after the tourney i should have varied my characters instead of trying to win style points with SHUN, and Pai, cause Sarah ran about a 17plus game win streak after the tourney, which suprises me ERIC that you ddidnt mention me in your post, how can you forget the black guy you ate lunch with and the same guy that OWNED you 7 games straight with Sarah and about 6 games straight with Tii and Kaminari_Oyaji!! ^_^ Jeez i figured i left SOME type of impression on you assuming that doesn t havppen often...oh well, maybe i should have made you stay for more games and reached 10 or more to get a shout out! /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

but seriously Eric and Tii i will be coming to play with you all very soon, you are all extremely cool bunch of guys and it was a great tourney, look for Panther to make his return, i will get my skill level up to what it used to be 5 years ago with VF3 and start placing top 3 or better in every tourney ^_^ SO LOOK OUT!!

And Tii....next time warn Eggchen about challenging me in games....(he got broomed in VF and TTT) its just not worth it... /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

    Hello,,
Well, since harold and shota didn't tell me they heading over that way, i'll respond to your message..
I can tell everyone in chi town to come somewhere on that weekend, Harold/crewolfy are in school so they may not be here for that, but shota a few others here will.
Just send us something if you'd like to come.
Haven't played shota's lau for a month now, but i know all of your pain, His matches are fun though...

    later,

    ...

I didn’t do that good, but the tournament (and the matches before and after) was fun.

Congrats to everyone for making a VF4 tournament successful at a traditionally Tekken minded gathering. I was a bit surprised at the crowds VF4 attracted at times.

I’m sorry I didn’t socialize with people more. I was in a bit of a bad mood over my crappy Tekken playing (it was quite obvious my Tekken game has gone way downhill).

Maybe at the next tournament my Jacky won’t be so scrubby...

shou-sama you spelled my name wrong, but ppl been doing that for years so i guess its ok. i like to think i did pretty well considering ive only just started playing this game. i wish i could have watched more of the games afterward, but i told tyson id run a ttt bracket. it felt kinda silly with me and deion being the only guys playing on pads. my kage was really sloppy at the tournament, but i did a lot better at alfreds house. at least against tii (watch out for the dragon punch), but alfreds jeffrey at me alive. i need to work on those low throw excapes.

Yeah...me and Tii both ate that Dragon Punch about 50 times each at Alfred's. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif Wish we'd have had more time and I could have shown you a few tricks with Kage but you are definitely coming along well after only a month's worth of playing. We'll have to have some VF hookups when you come back in town.
