EMBARASSMENT!

It is only natural for human beings to invest a great deal of pride in their competitive endevours and it is both good and healthy to congradulate oneself upon the aquisition of hardfought victory. Unfortunately, this same pride makes many of us attribute our losses to something other than a defect in our own performance or thinking. It is more or less a truism that in order to improve in any competitive endevour and eventually attain that nebulous quality of mastery we must ruthlessly evaluate our failings in the direction of rooting them out of our play. This is where embarassment comes in, as in it's face, pride must recede, making way for our critical, evaluative faculties to take over and help strengthen us.

So, with this in mind, what was your biggest or most recent VF embarassment? What did you learn?

Mine are easy. My first vs. session in an arcade with VF2 saw my Lion suffer 29 consecutive defeats (spectators kept letting me rematch) to a Wolf commanded by an eventually jubilant fellow. His win streak, which remained in first place for the duration of the machine's stay at the arcade, served as a constant reminder to remain humble.
And last week my very novice Shun was struck with two consecutive "excellent" defeats & only avoided an "excellent" 3/4ths through the lifebar with a d+K vs my roommate's improving Lion. We saved the match and it is clear upon review that, quite generally, had I been paying attention to what was going on AT ANY POINT IN TIME I would have been at least competitive & that had he been paying attention, that low kick of mine wouldn't have connected.

    Happy hunting.

Ok I'll bite to this. NYG 3 was a disapointment to me gameplay wise. I had been lazy in preparation and sucked in the iron man. Holes in my game made me lose important matches 2-3 and it just steamed me. I played so much afterwards and got things rolling again, but I left feeling empty. (insert Ryu joke here)

I remember once in VF3, I was playing Aoi against Myke's kage and I knocked him down near the edge of the ring. I started dashing into him when he was on the floor trying to look intimidating, then he siderolled and I dashed right through him and out of the ring! /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

Oh and once vs Summers Akira, at the end of the round we were in one of those situations where nobody has the initiative and I was going from standing to crouch for about ten seconds trying to figure out whether to attack or not, anyway I finally did a low punch and he reversed it, I think he's still got that on his memory card, bastard /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

you lamer, the WHOLE thing couldn't have been an embarrassment for ya /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

I don't really get embarrassed playing tho sometimes I'm annoyed at failure to adapt and learn something or to correctly input escapes or something... a situation that comes to mind that was more funny than embarrassing is I was playing rich on VF3TB, aoi vs. jeffry, I inashi'd a knee near the ring edge and then just spastically went for f+P+K,P to try to push him out. He dodged easily and out I went.

The reason I felt like such a tool is I KNEW it wasn't guaranteed and was easily escaped. Like 10 frames into the animation I knew i was dead.

i would say the first time i played omaha jeffry in vf3. One fight versus his akira he stumbling tripped me like 5 times in a row. Another fight versus his jeff he told me low kicks with shun all the time would get me killed i scoffed and he proceded to low throw me. it was like 10 beatings later i finally walked away fuming. I am still scarred as a player from that i hardly ever low kick.

At a tourney being eliminated first round by a near scrub(had a mental blackout) Tekken player while previously I had defeated that tekken player in the first round of the Tekken4 tournament.
    It sucked horribly.
I shouldve won both the T4 as well as the VF4 tournaments.

I havent experienced what I'd call embarassment within the game really... I mean mistakes are meant to be learned from and all that .. and as far as goofing around goes where it has lead me to ridiculous defeats.. well, that the chance you take clowing around I guess. My embarassment can be found (among other non-VF4 related environments) in the temper-tantrums I'd throw sometimes. omg.. I got my grip on that one day after throwing my controler across the room while cursing the game furiously..and when I turned around to leave the room my son was staring at me.,.surely wondering where the 5 year old lunatic who had replaced his dad came from. doh! heh um... yeah.. ::slinks off into another therapy session:: i didnt just tell you this.

My most embarrassing VF moment has much to do with my recent "Player Swapping" thread. Sometime ago I actually lost my cool to a pair/team of players (The Wall and another) while playing VerB. Losing, I swore directly at them and stormed off in a huff. An incredibly foolish reaction.
