They would have to release the Hori joysticks in America, no one can play a decent VF game with X-box pads. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The smaller XBox pads are better suited then the stupid dual shocks.
better button and finger placement for those who only want to play with a controler.
Stick is the only way to go tough.

Fishie, I'll pretend you didn't say that about the PS2 Dual Shock Pad. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

There ARE plenty of XB sticks in Japan, y'know. One made for DoA3 and another for SC2.

No way man, you are dead wrong, the DS2 is the best controller that comes with a console out of the three next gen consoles currently.

Each controller has their strengths and weaknesses. That being said the PS2 is by far the best of the bunch, everyone is practically mimicing the dual analog design now.

The xbox controller in any incarnation is crap. What exactly does the big ass logo in the middle of it do? Its like they combined a Dreamcast stick and a Dualshock and they needed something to fill the space where VMU slot was. So good old Horace bust out with a logo. Just in case you forget which console your playing I guess. Though it is smaller for the S version...

The first X-box controller felt like three Dreamcast pads stacked on top of one another.

And Fishie, if the PS2 pad is "a piece of shit," then why do most people preferr it, and why do most companies try to emulate the feel of a Dualshock controller with their own products?

And secondly, why did MS change the X-box controllers to the "S" (S = shit) version? When Zer0-Chan posted the Gamespy blunders of videogames, MS's X-box controller was one of them...

Post some reasons, or no one can take you seriously about this. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Simple really the first XBo controler was a piece of shit, the Controller S is not.
The Dual Shock has crappy button layout, people have gotten used to it tough so it became the norm.
Its kinda like Palm and grafiti, grafiti is not a handwriting recognition system, people have to learn to write in such a way that grafiti understands while MS Transcriber learns the actual handwriting of the user.
The DS has to be learned wich is never a good thing, that and the button positioning is less then natural.

I think the only significant faults of the DS2 are the thumb button layouts, which are awful, and the location of the analog sticks, but those really aren't all that much when it comes to playing games.

Both first party X-box controllers are not synmetrically layed out, the analog sticks are very poor, and the D-pad is the worst I have ever seen on a console, simply horrible.

While I am no controller expert, I think the reason the DS2 is a clone of the DS1, is because it is the best controller yet ( excluding the magnificant SNES controller, that is the true controller!).

Again bulshit of course, oure fingers arent symetric.
We arent symetric beings so a controller or keyboard or whatever that is built around the way we are build will always be better.
    The DS simply is not.

Idiot, controllers are not meant for your fingers, they are more meant for your hands which, OMG, are synmetric!! The DS2 is perfectly synmetric, the X pads just are not

Damn Fishie ! Why don't you like the DS ? What exactly don't you like about it ? It's the same layout as the SNES controller with a couple of extra buttons and features. Fighting games : no problem, racing games : no problem, any sport games : no problem... The S controller is a great controller but better than the DS........................ Naaaah ! But I think alot of it is psychological, for instance I'll buy games like Max Payne and Hitman for the Xbox but I'll buy Madden for PS2 knowing that it looks better on Xbox. I just can't play it on Xbox, it feels weird... go figure !!

Yeah you try pressing two crossed buttons at once on a dual shock, go on I dare you.
Yes you hold it with youre hands but what do you use to press the buttons you dumbwit?

  16. ONISTOMPA

    ONISTOMPA Well-Known Member

Yes it's a pain in the ass but doesn't the S controller have the same issue ? And besides, there isn't a huge amount of games that actually ask you to press cross buttons simultaneously anyway.

Has everybody magically forgotten the 6-button Genesis pad and the JP Saturn controllers?

I should also add that no serious fighting game player that I know of would even CONSIDER a game of... well, anything with a standard Dual Shock. The retardedly segmented D-Pad is only the beginning of the problems.

No we haven't : the Super Nintendo pad was better, hands down.
As for the JP Saturn controllers I don't know, never used them so I won't comment. Doubt they were better than the DS though.

Huh ! Whether you're a pad or stick player don't mean shit if you don't know how to play the game. If player A using a pad is comfortable and can do accurately whatever he wants with his or her character and player B using a stick is also comfortable, then where's the issue. I've seen pad players kick stick players ass and vice versa. "Serious fighters only use stick" = BULLSHIT, I repeat BULLSHIT. I use to play stick (and still do once in awhile) and I can do the SAME shit with the DS. Hadoken, Shoryuken you name it. Is stick better for fighting games ? Probably ! Well so is a Wheel for Gran Turismo. But that doesn't mean you'll beat me using my DS.

Now I'm starting to see this thing a litlle clearer. This argument has nothing to do with the DS !
Just another 3rd Grade console wars : Genesis does... you can't do this on Nintendo !! You guys need hobbies.

erm just to get things vaguely back onto the topic /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

i remember when vf4 came out, PSW gave it a very fair and good review.. 9/10 i think. they might be the only games magazine on earth which properly understood it and the score reflected that.

unfortunately there are two sad facts of modern gaming:
    1) 99% of games journalists are shit at games.
    2) nobody in the west likes fighting games any more.

this means there are very few reviewers now who really understand the new fighters, so you will always see complex games getting low scores and easy games getting high scores. sad but true. i remember when Mean Machines devoted 12 pages to their review of sf2turbo and gave it something like 98%.. i think those days will never come again.

    *cries*

p.s, did that EDGE reviewer really say that sc2 was the greatest fighting game ever? hmm maybe he's ignoring all the bugs /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

p.p.s, after saying all that, i went into my local GAME at lunchtime and evo was at number 6.. not bad at all!
