VERSUS 2006 - The biggest fighting game event to ever hit Northern Europe!

    * Presented by LightDash, SoulCharge, PlayStation 2, Dragon's Lair, Level and tvnisse.se *

Everything you will need to know about versus is on the website, www.vs2k.se , but I'll give a brief rundown of what Versus is all about here. It is recommended that you visit the website to get the complete picture though!

    When and where and how?

5:th - 6th of August in central Stockholm, Sweden. The event starts Saturday 12:30 and ends 08:00 Monday morning. Versus consists of tournaments in 7 fighting games and about 30 stations for casuals, free arcades (including VF4: FT set on a projector for our VF-players!) both in korean B2B style and on projector, as well as special events like pre-scheduled money matches, introductions to Tekken: DR for the Sony PSP and the new arcade game Hokuto No Ken.

Entry fee is 200 SEK for the whole event, day and night, and it will give you access to all the casual stations and sleeping areas. We will however ask you to participate in at least one tournament. Entry fee for each tournament is 40 SEK, but if you want to participate in 4 or more tournaments you don’t have to pay more than 140 SEK.
Since Versus is 100% non-profitable, the whole event fee will go to the prize pot after expenses are paid. Naturally, 100% of the tournament entry fee is going to the prize pot as well.

    9 SEK = 1 EUR

Please note that we won’t be able to accept euros! If you need to exchange your money, there are several currency exchange offices in the Central Station and in the City Terminal.

The venue is called Dragon’s Lair (www.dragonslair.se) and is located just a few minutes walk from the Central Station. The venue is 300 square meters big, so the limit of players is 120. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you register beforehand. You can read more about this in the Signup section on the website.

    The 7 tournament games are:

    Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
    Tekken 5
    Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
    Soul Calibur 3
    Guilty Gear XX Slash
    Capcom VS Snk 2
    Tekken Tag Tournament

Versus is presented to you by LightDash, SoulCharge, PlayStation 2, Dragon’s Lair, Level and tvnisse.se.
This collaboration means we will have a brand new PSP + game for the Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 3 winners. Cash prizes will also be awarded for placing first to third in all the tournaments.

We have also been sponsored with logistics, meaning we will have about 30 gamestations including 2-3 projectors for casuals and tournament play.

Level is one of Swedens biggest gaming magazines and they will document everything. We in the staff will of course also do our own documentation in the form of video recording (which will be available on DVD later) and so on.

What is the tournament schedule and the format for each tournament?

The format for each tournament has not yet been decided but this is the approximated tournament schedule:

    Saturday:
    15:00: Tekken 5
    18:00: Soul Calibur 3
21:00: Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
    24:00: Tekken Tag Tournament

    Sunday:
    10:00: Capcom vs Snk 2
    12:00: Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
    14:00: Guilty Gear XX/

    How do i get there?

First of all, you will probably need to fly to Stockholm, Sweden. I would recommend flying with a low fare flight company, like Ryan Air for instance. When you fly to Sweden, arriving to any of these three airports is fine:

    Västerås
    Skavsta
    Arlanda

You can probably find low prize fares to both Västerås and Skavsta, but Arlanda is situated a tiny bit closer to Stockholm City.

From the airports you can grab a coach ( www.flygbussarna.se/en/ ) that will take you directly to the City Terminal, right by the Central Station, leaving you at a 10 min walking distance from Dragon’s Lair.

    Dragon’s Lair
    Stockholm, Sweden
    Kungsholmstorg 8
    +46 8 654 60 50
    http://www.dragonslair.se/

We will do regular pickups at the City Terminal and central train station, so if you contact me personally or e-mail us we will personally pick you up. If you want to go to the Venue yourself, which should be quite easy if you arrive at the City Terminal or Central Station, this is how you get there:

    1. We recommend that you walk from the central station to the venue, it’s a 10 min walk and will save you all the trouble of using the subway. Most probably you will find other players walking to the venue so it shouldn’t be impossible to find your way.

    2. You can also take the blue subway line from the Central Station to RÃ¥dhuset.

There is a map shows you the way regardless if you decide to walk from the Central Station or the subway station RÃ¥dhuset, found in the Event section on the website.

    Where can I sleep?

It is possible to sleep for free at the venue, but we don’t have any madrasses or sleeping bags so bring your own if you are planning to sleep during the night. This is definitely recommended, but in case you don’t want to sleep at the venue but at a hostel or hotel, we recommend that you get in contact with one of these as they are all very close to the venue:

    Who is coming?

Apart from all the top players of Sweden, many international guests will be present, such as the top nordic player Chief Gutti. Check out the Signup section on the website for the complete list, and sign yourself up if you haven’t already.

This is no joke ppl, it is truelly as awesome as it sounds. This thing has been in the making for two years now and is a community project from all Swe Beu's at it's base. It all started with a beu board called BitterHarmony where all fightingameplayers got to be under one umbrella. That, and a dream.

Hopefully; this will be our own Evolution 2k here in the North from now. This will be a reacurring yearly event that will grow and grow. Why? Cause you can look at all the fine swe bitchez and enjoy the warm summer in Sthlm while you're here summertime that's why! If there are any questions I'll try to answer if Bobby (Hans Blixt!) isn't fast enough.

Sounds interresting guys but for something this big you need to advertise really earlier if you want people from abroad to come. Come on ! 3 weeks is really short . /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif
If it had been announced 1 month earlier I probably would have come. May be next year, have fun /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thought I'd post a little about how things are coming a long since this is the first time for the Versus tourney in Europe.

All slots (120) are now filled. The event got filled even before adds in gamingmagazines and so on even got published so it's already a huge success. The cream of the crop of Nordic players will be there (Gutti, Raider, Netrom, Shmolz, Wuff, Nybec, Myself, Jeneric, Manjimaru etc) so it's going to be an awesome tourney. About 30 ppl will be playing VF. I don't think many care about the prizepool / cash however - I think most are just interested in hanging out and playing FT on the projector / casuals. Bob and the crew have taken very good care of foreign visitors imo, most are sleeping at someones house when they arrive.

Next year there will be more room/slots available if everything comes around without major errors - Dragons Lair (where the event is being held) is a BIG place. 500m^2 or something like that. It's a gamingcenter of sort where magicplayers/ warhammersplayers/ tekkenplayers and basicly everyone into gaming hangs in Sthlm. It's quite unique in that respect. Since DL is central in Sthlm getting food will be no problem either. I booked my firstclass tickets (by train) to this thing cause it's going to be, like, 5hours by train for me to get to Sthlm so I want to be comfy. Now I have to grind some money through poker to pay for it heh.

I don't know about media being capped, I would be suprised if it wasn't (and then I'll make replays myself most probably) so I'll update with media later on. The event is 5-7th Aug so will post again after the entire thing with my PoV on how it was and, hopefully, media. 'Till then.

Jide and RH confirmed for versus now = Happyness + an Angel gets its wings. I'm going up with train now (in like 2 hours) to hang in Sthlm with Jeneric and the Norway crew 'till Saturday. Cya there guys.

I really wanted to come too!!! /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Next time should be all good.
Since this is a pretty varied event, as well as the VF crowd, I know lots of the Tekken and Street Fighter players are also interested in coming to Sweden.
It's all about a huge group invasion force next time /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My brain is totally slaughtered at this point, have slept like 8h in 5 days but I'll write some stuff as I can think of it.

At first it was groupplay where the two topplayers in the group moved on. I got to be in the group of death (Ryan and Gutti) so I would have to beat one of them to move on basicly = good luck. It kinda always was between Gutti and Ryan and everybody knew they would be in the finals if not some upset would happen (Twins and Shmolz taking Gutti's place for instance).

    Group 1:
    1. Raider
    2. Nybec
    ----------------
    3. LANman
    4. Schaufel
    5. SMOTU
    6. Wallace

    Group 2:
    1. Ryan Hart
    2. Cheif Gutti
    ----------------
    3. Kiwe
    4. THR
    5. MadadaM
    6. Jigsaw

    Group 3:
    1. Netrom
    2. Matt
    ----------------
    3. Jeneric
    4. Wuff
    5. Talon
    6. fluddyflea

    Group 4:
    1. Jide
    2. Shmolz
    ----------------
    3. JINsama
    4. Devil
    5. M4sh
    6. Groovy_Gunnar

I feel sorry for Jide in the match for third prize, he messed up an input when it came down to the line doing a 9p regular jump so Shmolle could secure the win. Other then that the match for third prize became a bit bizarre and both Jide and Shmolz seemed very nervous (I know both can play better then they did) - a lot of 2k+g and stuff like that going on /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ryan owned and got to do an interview for a swedish gamingmag (Level) which sponsored/covered the event as well. I guess he took home something like 5k Swedish crowns in cash + a PSP or something like that for his efforts.

Good stuff; for a first time event this was very good imo. The staff worked their ass of. When [LD]Bob was doing a speech while handing out prizes in the end he basicly wasn't coherent and had trouble speaking - that's hardcore. I know Maxi was even worse off.

Things that could improve imho; the heat was pretty bad. There were loads of fans and so on but the place got warm. Still, it wasn't unbearable. It's impressive that the toilets got cleaned and remained fresh and that the coffeshop at the place was open every hour or so late into the night so you could buy soda / water and what not cause you sure as hell needed it.

The 10 o clock curfew was a bit weird and something that should've been informed about. They didn't want you leaving after 10pm - doors got closed to the place. This had something to do with neighbours complaining and so on.

The different communities pretty much sticked to themselves which I felt was a shame. Couldn't get a single VF player I know accept Nybec to try t5 with me for instance. I would've loved to just more move around and play and stuff like that. The VF players "slept" in the VF room = good luck. There was the worlds loudest fan there so you couldn't sleep unless you passed out. I think there was more, like, sleeping quarters but this was a bit badly informed so people crashed all over.

Tourney's got a bit confusing with changed times, trouble to find players and whatnot. Could be improved upon.

VF only had the FT projector and 2 tv's, I had been informed it was going to be 4 tv's for VF at the event. 2 tv's isn't a lot with 12 dedicated players wanting to play. They also were placed a bit odd imo in the FT room so it was akward to use them. This changed over to Saturday / after the VF tourney so that there were now 4 tv's that had been previously used for Tekken to play on and 2 tekken setups in the VF room (basicly it didn't get changed back).

    A bunch of pictures can be found here;
    http://szero.ath.cx/

Now I need to sleep bigtime. Was fun meeting Jide finally, he's been like a loyal idler in #vfse for some time now /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Been scrounging through the pictures.

Wicked place you guys got there.

aside: Heh heh, of course Warhammer 40K players will be up and going as early as heck... Been some time since I played myself, really need to get those last bits painted and myself psyched for a tournament again. I think I've got way more chance winning anything with my Imperial Guard then with my Vane or Zappa...

Being out of practice could mean some terribly bad tactical desicions though...

There are some clips up now @swe site ( http://dungeon.campus.luth.se/~vf/php/phpbbVF/viewtopic.php?t=20 ), beware of failed inputs and scrubby dmg not taken in gameplayclips that gutti took on his handheld but..uhm.. yeah. The prizeceremony that was also capped by gutti is there so if you want to see Ryan get a shitload of money + tired as hell Swedes that's what you want to watch. More "offical" (better) gameplay (from the actual venue) clips will come later on (not capped by guttis handheld = no norweigan commentator)
