I was reading up on this technique in the ver C changes thread and saw srider talking about this technique. If I understand what he was saying it's used as a way to prevent follow-up attacks but I couldn't really grasp the full concept of how this technique helps. He said that an example of when you'd use it is after blocking lau's 6P. If I understand this right after you block it you do a failed evade crouch dash or dash to cancel the failed evade animation then you throw. This is supposed to beat out the opponent's fuzzy guard? Can someone please explain how this works the explanation really confused me.

Hmm I think I understand what he is meaning..

Imagine scenario where you block Laus f+P or similar twohit linear attack. You immediately input DM evade -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif.

-If Lau does the follow up palm, you will get a succesful evade, which cannot be canceled with crouch dash. So your throw will come out as is and Lau will be thrown.
-If Lau doesnt do followup, and instead just blocks or fuzzies, you will get a failed evade, which will be canceled with the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif crouch dash, and then the throw will come out. So Lau will be thrown, at least if he just stands and blocks, and propably the delay caused by canceled evade and crouchdash will beat fuzzy guard too.

Feel free to correct me if Im wrong. I think Im doing something similar almost subconsciously..I DM and step too much lol.

PS. iirc you played with Eileen, so in your case propably something like evade - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or whichever throw you want to use.

AH that makes sense. So the delay inherent in the failed evade cancel is what causes you to beat the fuzzy because he's back up in time for you to throw. and yeah I'd probably want to go for 336P+G to get the PP>236P+K mixup. Would use DM evade -> 33P+K work also or is 18 frames too slow?

So the evade cancel throw is most useful for moves that have followup attacks but not so much for single hit moves?

I had to brake my stepping habit by just forcing myself for a week to just not DM unless I couldn't think of a better solution just for training's sake. After that I could see when evading was a better option and it also made my evades less see through. It also improved my yomi by a lot.

Just a correction to this: after a successful evade, the throw will not come out. Your input will be "eaten" during the successful evade animation.

This was the same concept as the early ARE defensive technique used in VF4.

Ok, but in essence player can still re-input the throw and throw Lau..in theory at least.

True, but I don't think it's an effective tactic. You can't get 0f throws after a successful dodge, so unless you've successfully dodged a really big attack making the throw guaranteed, then the opponent can still hit or clash your throw attempt.

I think if you have the reflexes, then it's better to check the condition of your opponent (and the move you dodged), before deciding on your next action. As the old addage goes: use attacks to condition your opponent before throwing, yadda, yadda /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Hmm well, of course you should never input stuff without thinking what you are doing.. However I disagree with you in one sense. Evade->throw may not be foolproof or guaranteed tactic, but sure as hell is an effective one, worth using (My own personal hole in defense are throwescapes after my moves get evaded...shushshush ;)). Just need to mix it with evade -> some sort of attack, depending on character and what opponent has a tendency of doing.

Ps. I have several times thrown opponents in middle of their attack string after I have evaded the first attack..what that is about I dont know. Its not easy but sometimes it happens.

Doesn't using a throw after the successful evade defeat the whole point of this tactic... that being that fuzzy guard will still beat that throw, because you aren't using the failed evade for delay now?
