    According to this, anyway:

SEGA Corp today confirmed that it has sharply revised earnings projections for the first half of the current fiscal year, due to strong sales of its products.

SEGA now expects a group net profit of 5.7 billion yen (~£31 million) for the period from April-September, compared with an initial forecast of 200 million yen (~£1 million) and the 1.01 billion yen (~£5 million) it reported in the same period last year.

As a result the Japanese developer has also raised its sales forecast to 94.2 billion yen (~£513 million) against an original prediction of 88 billion yen (~£479 million), whilst SEGA now predicts its net profit for the full fiscal year will rise from 7.5 billion yen (~£40 million) to 8 billion yen (~£43 million).

The success has been largely attributed to strong sales in Japan and higher-then-expected demand for ‘Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution’ and ‘Sonic Adventure DX’ in America and Europe.

This certainly puts SEGA back in the driving seat; combined with the recent internal restructuring the company should certainly be in a position to create higher profile titles and hopefully the return of some big name games from SEGA – however we wouldn’t hold our breathes for ‘Shenmue 3’ just of yet.

Of course totaly disregarding the fact that setting up and maintaining the networks for the west would be huge moneylosers and that no one would be willing to pay the fees anyway.

Sad but so true. It would never work in the U.S. it's too freaking spread out. And even if you do it only ppl in densely populated place where hardcore arcade gamers would put the effort.

what would work in the US, imho, are those Korean "PC Bang" type of deals. for those that aren't familiar with them, they are basically internet cafe type of setups, usually for RTS gameplay. they proliferate in Korea (undisputed champs of RTS), as well as many of the urban environments in the US where there's a high density of Koreans (and most urban envs in the US do have at least pockets of such). i can think of at least 15 such locations in the NYC area.

so far, i've only seen PC setups at these places, but i don' see why they can't implement consoles.

Well, I just stumbled upon the Digital Rex division homepage that Yu Suzuki is now heading... there's a link to a revamped shenmue.com (www.shenmue.com ) website.

Maybe Digital Rex (Digital King?) is going to be having Shenmue III as a project? I'm praying we see it.

BTW, funny, there's no "Sega" trademarks or logos or copyrights anywhere.

Nice find. Interesting there's no Sega ownership on this site. They could still be constructing it, or perhaps Yu's new studio is being created as a seperate company......

I'm glad he's in this new position - I think AM2's emphesis on producing sequels probably held him back creatively. And there's a wealth of good talent left at AM2 who can make decent sequels from the his ground-work, as well as new arcade projects.

I can't wait to see what he's got in the pipe.

She looks a bit like the red-haired biker girl from Hong Kong - forget her name - with the obvious exception of........well, hair colour.

God, I really hope he gets round to finishing it.

Yep, Ryo's gonna regret knocking back all those honeys when he gets older and the divorce with Nozomi has been confirmed /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Someone should remind him that banging pretty chicks in a a god-given right at 18.

Seriously though, I think it's kind of cool how he rejects all the advances. Makes him a more interesting character imo.

Not specifically, but now that you mention it has there every been a closet-gay protagonist in a videogame?

It would be original at least.

Not to my knoledge, plenty of homosexual baddies tough.
And I have my suspicions about a few chara´s like Benimaru or indeed Lion.

Suddenly Ryo's quest for sailors in Shenmue would make sense.

And hey, leave Lion out of your gay contingent. He may dress camp and sport an annoying female voice, but he's more of a man than Wolf will ever be.

I mean c'mon....tight lycra outfits and excessive body building give him away. And Jacky, with his Jonny Depp bandana, biker leather and shades, has a very high probibility of being Wolf's rent boy.
