Evo Quest Vs. VF4 Kumite

Discussion in 'Console' started by KingOfIronFists, Apr 30, 2003.

  1. Sorry if this is posted already, I looked through a lot of stuff but may have missed the clear answer I'm looking for.
How does Quest mode in Evo compare to the Kumite mode in VF4? I know there are special tournaments in quest where you have to beat someone in a certain way to win like Soul Calibur. Is there still the plain old Kumite mode still available with the tournaments optional? I hated that Mission mode in Soul Calibur so I will not get Evo unless the normal Kumite mode is available. Also not sure I like the money concept, I liked fighting until the opponent with the item I want appears

Quest mode is like "super kumite".

There are a bunch (8/9?) of arcades. You start off at the easiest one, and just play at the arcade. This part is very much like Kumite. When you meet the requirements for that Arcades tourney you can enter the tourney to earn the right to move on to the next arcade (you must place 1st or 2nd, may be 3rd counts as well but I don't know). The beauty of Quest that makes it superior to Kumite is that you can go back to easier arcades to play if you want to work on a new combo or some other aspect of your game.

Kumite was great but Quest is considerably better. If you liked Kumite you'll love Quest.

AI is so much better, and there are much much more items

    available.

The quest mode will take you to a higher level with lots of

    fun.

I strongly recommend you to buy Quest mode.

(not to mention improved graphics and loading)

  4. Thanks for info /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif So you get to fight a limitless amount of people at each arcade right? Like in Kumite its not like you can finish the game completely, after you get Emperor/High King you can continue fighting. I assume you can do that at each of the arcades in quest.
Also I heard Quest is going to have fights where you must win under certain conditions; for example only using kicks to win. Where does that fit into the quest mode? It sounds a lot like the Mission mode in Soul Calibur which I hated. I play Kumite a ton and I'm affraid of the changes they are making to it. That's why I haven't had as much interest as when VF4 was coming out. But I'm getting it anyways just because its VF, I bought the Saturn and Dreamcast just play VF back in the day. I may not seem hardcore since I was not considering buying Evo. I am hardcore at Tekken but I did not get Tekken 4 because I hate the changes (the poorly done 3d movement) they made to my beloved game. So I just keep playing TTT. That's why I'm worried they won't change my beloved Kumite mode too much.

There are two aspects to this.

    First:
Each Arcade has a main quest and sub quest. The main quest is what you must do to qualify for that arcade's tournament. They're along the lines of "beat 15 people", "beat 50% of the people at that arcade", "beat 10 people with special symbols", etc. You need to complete the arcade's main quest in order to enter the arcade's tournament. You need to place in the arcade's tourney to move on to the next arcade.

The sub-quest are for the most part optional (except the few arcades that have their main quest as "complete 4 sub-quests). Sub-quests are along the lines of "dodge 10 times", "win a match without backdashing", etc.

    Second:
This is probably what you are thinking of... In quest mode there is the "event arena" it looks like one of the arcades but it's actually a list of special tourneys. There are tourneys where you have 1000pt. life bars, tourneys where if you don't tech roll properly you take extra damage, etc. If you didn't like "Mission mode" in SC then you probably won't like the special tourneys. But, you don't have to do them. My Goh and Lion are on the 2nd last arcade in quest mode and I've only played on special tourney.

    kingofIronfist,

I agree with you on the tekken issue.

I am not a hardcore tekken player and neither are my

friends, but we still play tekken tag for fun but not

tekken4. When Namco made tekken4, most of their

staffs that were involved in producing tekken1 through

tekken tag didn't work for tekken4 for some reason.

So, tekken4 was not made by their original staffs.

That's why the system is different, and the game has

    many mistakes.

On the other hand, as a hardcore VF4 player, since

    I acquired VF4 evo, I have never played VF4 Ver.C.

Why? Because, VF4 evo has everything that is in

    VF4 and much much more.

The change Sega has made in EVO are all good

things except the memory card issue. In the aspect of

game play, it is totally satisfactory.

I already have VF4 EVO japanese version, but as soon

as American version of Evo comes out in U.S, I will go

buy that. It is totally worth it, and I bet you will

appreciate Sega's work once you get to play Evo.

  7. Thanks kbcat and madagascar, good info /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have 2 questions.

First Madagascar what is the thing they changed with the memory card Evo? Hope they didn't change the awesome player files!

Second, kbcat. It seems like the arcades you fight in have an ending. After you beat all the quests, subquests, tournaments, and events can you continue to play? I love Kumite mode because there are no variables you play in one "arcade" and there is no ending. I guess my concerns can be wrapped up in, Why mess with perfection?

    Thanks guys

    I'll tell you why. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Evo is a far superior VF game than 4 VerC ever was. Get the game, and you will not regret it.

Re: quest mode. You can kumite all you want, and the AI is way way way better than Ver C. Sure, there are retarded quests to do, but you don't have to do them. To move on to higher level arcades (and hence higher level opponents) you do have to complete the 'main quest' at each arcade and fight in the local tournament.

There's a whole thread on this topic and explains much of everything your asking.

Evo and VF4 VerC are different beasts - it's just that Evo is far better and more enjoyable. The characters, the animations, the new moves, the new stage looks, the new music. It makes VerC look like VF4 beta.
