Observations from an Arcadia columnist (Tsumuji-maru) about character power shift in Evo version B.
Remember, this is just one guy's opinion, but since he works at Arcadia, I think he's far more in tune with this sort of thing.

    1 means a sizable tone-down, 3 is about equal to version A, and 5 is a sizable tune-up.

    Akira: 1
    Jacky: 2
    Sarah: 1
    Lau: 4
    Pai: 3
    Wolf:4
    Jeffry: 3
    Kage: 4
    Lion: 3
    Shun: 2
    Aoi: 4
    Lei-Fei: 4
    Vanessa: 5
    Brad: 2
    Goh: 4

He wrote a few little quips about why he graded the characters what he did, as well. Still working on reading most of these, aiiiiieeeee. I'll post some when I feel comfortable with doing so.

(If this message is incomprehensible, I apologize. It's 2 AM here and I am dead tired. x_x)

Yay wolf got stronger and shun got just a tad weaker all good to me. Brad has less good news to offer than the others but he has chino's. People who fight in chino's shall always be strong.

Sarah: Lower floats and less damage potential over superior technique and special attack properties. Read my last post in the other Evo verB thread here for my in-depth opinion.

    Cheers for the effort Zerochan.

Just wondering why Lau needed toning up......he is already too good /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

    I'm having a problem with this. /versus/images/icons/blush.gif

According to this thread posted by Nutlog, Aoi's Aiki throw ([2_][6]+[P]+[G]) no longer gives a guaranteed throw opportunity, the recovery of g-cancelled strings has been increased, [2]+[K]+[G] is easier to punish, and none of Aoi's reversals give ground throw opportunities anymore. Meanwhile, the only good things are that some of her moves are easier to g-cancel, her double stop is now uncounterable when blocked, and [6]+[P], [P] gives frame advantage on an MC hit. How does that account for her "sizable tune-up"? It just seems that the bad outweighs the good here, and the good doesn't make that much of an improvement.

I'd be really interested in seeing some of the writer's comments.

I'm curious too. I notice that characters with strong canned elbow combos do pretty well (jacky, lau, sarah) .. maybe by toning up aoi's f+P,P she's really scary now, after an elbow you have to guess about the second chop or risk eating a throw... then after the chop, if it MC'd, you have the same guessing game.. but with the new double stop-type tool or throw.

Offhand I can't see much else she has for useful new tools :/

Yeah that's weird. Getting a delayable elbow-palm is sort of nasty, and getting extra damage from stuff like b,f+P combos is neat... but outside of that, I see he lost the hopkick-stpm combos, which is pretty big, and lost the force-guard punches (which I dunno how big it is until I play).

I thought the doublestop was uncounterable in version A?

I think the old double stop has the commands [6],[4]+[P] and it's counterable. The command [4],[3]+[P] is an uncounterable move that's similar looking, but if I recall correctly I remember reading about her double stop having a new command and the old command having a new animation...

    cheers,

The old double stop is still [4][3]+[P], and I believe it is uncounterable. However, I am not certain about it being uncounterable. I do know that it only staggers now, no more KD. The "new" double stop that Llanfair was refering to is [4][3]+[P]+[K]. The new one gives a KD, but you can't low throw it, you can only combo it.

    cheers,
    g.

Ack...going back and looking again, I misread part of Aoi's mods...the [4][3]+[P] (which I was informed was -6 in Evo...thought I read it was moved to -8) is still uncounterable, and now gives more advantage on MC. Sorry bout the misread in applying the "counter" to the move. /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

Going to go back and look over Pai' s again, as I cannot see for the life of me how she was left even after all that...
