I just sent another ticket to Sega of America asking them if they paid attention to how much hype there is around fighting games. Specifically pointing them to how IGN, the biggest video game site, is giving massive free promotion to fighting games.

IGN even directly worked with Blazblue....one of the reasons that BB got a 9.4/10 and not a lower score.

I watched SC4 semis and finals before I went to bed. It was a good watch. Nice to see a French player pull it off. I really wish americans could get hyped from VF, but I guess it doesnt have enough flashy graphics.. I bet they would more from R than vanilla 5 though..

It's been mention numerous times in this thread, but is worth repeating. I'm really amaze how Namco is promoting their titles. They went to EVO hardcore setting up displays everywhere and even interacting with the community as well. Arcsys manage to squeeze their title(BlazBlue)In the last minute. It wasn't alot of footage, and certain players(Like HeartNana from Japan)Flew in, just for a invitational, proves that the community cares for this games and this companies are showing the love back.

Even if VF5R is shown at TGS, is too late. Using this years EVO was a perfect opportunity to hype the game up. Arcsys and Namco did the same thing last year with their respected titles by showing up to EVO(And AnimeExpo) with Arcade units. I'm really surprise Namco went to this years Devastation, and even showing up to this years Comicon. Fucking SEGA, your the New York Knicks of the industry. Loved and respected in the 90's but straight thrash in the 2k's.....Just like the Knicks.

Sega. Hates. You. Honestly, how can anybody make any other sort of argument. Unless you live in Japan where they rub the balls of their little niche market, they simply do not care.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed by Sega's "non-existence" outside of Japan, however, I will say T6 will make up for that somewhat... Feng Wei combos/setups, crazy steps, spacing and frame traps will hold me down til Sega decides to not be a sleeping bear... And to think I almost achieved Jeffry Nirvana...

You guys can't really complain. If you supported VF5 more then maybe you'd get the latest version or a VF6. I posted up the DEVASTATION thread months before the event asking if you guys want VF5 included (it was at DEV '08), and hardly anyone spoke up to say they would support it.

You only have yourselves to blame. Organize more tournaments, travel to more events and then maybe you'll see some improvement from Sega. I don't play VF anymore because the game is dead, but that's not Sega's fault.

Also, any of you who think you can just pick up T6 and dominate you're in for a big surprise. I'm sure top VF5 players can adjust to T6 given enough practice, but it will require just as much effort as you put into VF. Don't expect it to be easier or that Tekken is a shallow game you can just dominate.

I went to as much gatherings/tournaments as my job and responsibilities allowed me to. Been doing it since 2002 for this game.

I don't remember seeing you or meeting you in any of them. So maybe you are one of the people to blame.

I know for me, I did as much as I can given the time I had (work really didn't allow me to travel much). When I was living in Hawaii, I did a whole lot to bring VF4evo to the forefront. Some people took to it, and others said "meh" to it, but I still gave it my best effort. I even got a few ppl to pick it up, even though Tekken 5 was out and dominating. After moving to Texas, I did the same thing, but there wasn't that many ppl in my area, and I did even more traveling which put an even bigger damper in my free time. Got another person to pick up Goh though, which was a plus (esp. since vf5 came out at that time), and a few other cats got interested...

DrDogg, you forgot about the plethora of upper to top tier cats that have been on Tekken since day 1 like a bunch of the guys at SDTekken (USMC Ogre and his wife Gonzo, Fog9, Ace R, Markman, etc...) and east coast cats like LOC and Jinmaster... Tekken 6 is definitely not going to be a cakewalk for ppl on xbl or psn, especially since T6 is totally different from T5DR...

I won't agree with DrDogg here. Saying the VF community didn't support VF is false. Back when this forum started (yes, I was around, lurking), it was pretty active. It was at least as active as Guard Impact.

You can't blame the community. Sega themselves sued the community. I'm sure that left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. That, and all this Japan-only BS.

Sega is a great creative and development company with the WORST possible marketing and PR crew. They're responsible for briefing the heads about what's going on in the industry/games market, and they're obviously doing a piss-poor job internally and externally.

The sad and simple truth here is: if Sega brought a 5R machine to EVO, and flew in some of the top players for exhibitions, it would have totally stolen Namco's thunder at EVO. But they didn't, and they're not going to anytime soon. Namco's promoting the fuck out of their game, and doing what every company should be doing: talking to the hardcore and casual fans (tourneys, events, and public blogs), and asking questions and answering them. Namco deserves whatever success they'll reap from doing so.

Sega? Fuck them. For the good of the VF series, I hope a better company (like Konami) buys out the franchise and the AM2 arcade team. It's literally dying under Sega's wing. In fact, the biggest fear I have about VF is that Sega does what it does to all it's biggest series: Sonic, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shenmue, Daytona, Jet Grind Radio, Space Harrier, etc.:

they simply let them all fade out quietly, and then bring them back every now and then to see if some cash can be made. VF may become nothing more than what Sonic is now - a reminder of the great past that once was.

::EDIT:: Also, how can people(plural) reply to a Devastation question when there's hardly anyone left? If that same question was asked during VF3/VF4, how many people do you think would have replied?

Agreed, except the part about Sonic dying quietly. He's screaming and having monologues.

Sonic used to be real real cool. WTF happened.

I wish I knew man. I even bought the new sonic game for my kid. It sucked. There was some sort of "RPG" walk around element. I mean... Sonic + Walking? WTF?

You heard it here first: VF6 is going to have Mortal Kombat bonus rounds and Bass Fishing to earn items.
