Regarding the 7/8/02 Post

There are lots of things I could say on the 7/8/02 post. And they don't make me unhappy about anything, but at least I have some questions answered.

But I am only going to say one thing right now regarding that post:

In reply to:

11:09 PM: CrewNYC: after Frolic we has PS2 mem card stats
11:09 PM: Yun: afraid?
11:09 PM: rsw: i DON'T PLAY
11:09 PM: rsw: idiot!
11:09 PM: CrewNYC: so it was easy to rank everyone
11:09 PM: Yun: ok now you're spewing shit. i admit.
11:09 PM: CrewNYC: after NYG 3 same thing
11:09 PM: Yun: what rich said.
11:09 PM: rsw: i can't POSSIBLY care less
11:09 PM: CrewNYC: we can rank everyone
11:09 PM: CrewNYC: and none of it is subjective

[/ QUOTE ]

To my knowledge, there are no reliably logged player data and charts from the NYC Frolic. As far as I'm concerned, it's BS that there's data which justifies the rankings Andy posted.

As such, I (and probably just about everyone else) took Andy's rankings as a subjective or inciteful (inciting what I call non-respectful competitiveness) list of names for whatever purpose pleases him--but not quite objective.

In fact, I am confident that had such a chart existed, I would have easily made "Andy's Top 10 List" no problem if it was truly based on it.

In addition, Andy only participated on Saturday night (and a few matches Sunday morning I think)--this was all understandable and all. But I doubt he'd be number 3 or whatever he posted on account of that and the few matches he played compared to others (and also considering the win/loss ratio).

On a side note, regarding competition and traveling for gatherings, I personally go for the enjoyment of playing VF players I respect (which doesn't mean they have to be great players). I still play to get better and to compete, but winning or win/loss counts aren't the only thing I care about. I don't play to prove anything except my enjoyment of the game. I don't really care about the top 10 list or rankings either. But I guess it might be the only thing people care to see...

Re: Regarding the 7/8/02 Post

Incase someone didnt notice, the post was more of the traditional rile people up variety. Same can be said about whatever comments I may make about player rankings etc. Its more to get the new people riled up to play. I will say though following NYG3, we do expect solid stats to be up.

Re: Regarding the 7/8/02 Post

Sure, you can rile people up. I just find it more effective when you do it with much more reliable examples, instead of looking like a liar or fabricator. If you're gonna twist the truth, twist it just enough but not too much. But in this case, you just created something out of thin air, and a good deal of people who paid attention at the event could see that. It doesn't really help add to your character (well, if you care anyways).

But RSW/Bungle/Rich should be the last person you're trying to rile up because he simply doesn't play VF4 and isn't interested in doing so.

Anyways, I'll maintain the position that if I go to NYG3, it'll be for enjoyment and not to prove anything. I find trying hard to prove anything unenjoyable for me--I'm just looking for some good matches and socializing.

P.S. Too bad I haven't heard all that much about having a good time at NYG3 or meeting up with people. I'm sure it's been mentioned from others, but there's just been so much (too much) noise on the level of personal challenges, visions of gradeur, and proving who's your Daddy. All well in humor and respect, but at some points it looks too serious.

Nah, the point of a tournament is to show whos boss and to continue kicking the opponents face in the dirt .

thx Rich. Now that we have confirmed a VF1 machine in Staten Island /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif and it is only 25 cents I decided to take a look at the VF1 FAQ in your faq shaq. Excellent. I always wondered what Chanchai was talking about when he referred to "tick". /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

VF is about competiton. Game is defined by having winners and losers. It dosent matter who wins or loses, its how you play the game is something losers tell themselves to feel better.

I have a question for people who play in Japan. Do the japanese perfer to play the really good players regardless of who they are. Or do they perfer to play scrubs that are there close friends?

Nycat: Not sure how it's defined in the faq... but I basically was referring to flowcharting via poke/attack when I talked about ticking. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

Jedi Fei: I don't disagree that much with your point. I do ultimately play a match with one of the big goals being to win that match--but I don't really play to win all the time. I play to improve. I look forward to a good match means I'm looking forward to a match with a good and competent opponent and I am playing at what I consider an above decent level. My idea of good matches also include respect in the match and good attitude.

I don't know how much win/loss records really count in this community--particularly when various people fabricate the existence of them to use on others. In the end, it didn't prove anything--though it might provoke something. Various communities have their examples--example from your area MIGHT be Enkindu in the past (I honestly really don't know, because I don't live in Florida).

Wish I could answer your question, but my impression of the answer is different from what I think you were expecting in the answer.

lol, wtf is this trash talk? it doesn't even make sense - you replied to nycat out of left field with some snotty-sounding shit.

How can anyone answer your question about the japanese? Do you think that someone has interviewed over a million japanese players to find what kind of competition they prefer? It's one thing to make a statement like "the japanese in general seem to play stronger than the other countries" because that can be backed up by stats. It's another thing to have the nerve to assume you know what's in their heads when they play.

Did it ever occur to you that the japanese, like americans, don't necessarily all have the same mindset? Some like to play with local buddies and some actively seek out expert strangers. Hell, for all we know it's split exactly down the middle between the two types.

Anyway, you seem to be advocating the tough-sounding theory that 'winning is what matters. Anything else is just weak' but who are the most respected and well-known players in japan? We don't hear much about the boring but effective 90% lau and jacky players who float around the top 20 spots in vf.net, we hear about guys like chibita. Kyasao's at the top of vf.net routinely and he's not afraid to fuck around.

Anyway, if you're so hardcore serious about VF, don't ever spend another penny on a north american gathering. Save up 200 dollars here and there by skipping all the US gatherings, just so you can fly to japan in a year or two and say 'I don't fuck around, I play the best."
