Today I played a ugly as sin akira who's sole game seems to revolt around poking once with a low punch or a high punch and then throwing afterwards or doing a double palmed mid.
apparantly i'm lacking some basics cause I couldn't figure out how to fight it without becoming a low punch whore. (playing aoi btw)

    Advice away lads!

well sometimes you have to resort to some less than satisfiying tactics to win a match against people who spam

its probably not that you lack basics, its just that when you go from fighting people who have a good overal feel for the game to someone who spams, and who dont fall for your setups because they only know how to play one way, you might have trouble adjusting cuz it just throws you off so bad.......................or maybe you do lack basics, i dunno

as for advice,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif ducks highs and beats out low punch
i personally use/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif against low punch spammers and for those who dash up and throw, even though it hits high, it still hits someone crouching on a counter hit, and hits over low punch,.......... i think, really i havent played aoi in two weeks, and even though i think im pretty good, im not the guy who'll tell you who frame data and all the technical stuff like all the properties for each move in vf5

but still, test it out, if only to help make me feel good about myself /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

My favorite low punch killer with Aoi is the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif mid elbow crushes the low punches quickly and if the enemy can't break throws you can do her low throws after it especially after you connect it after a counter hit.

I hate dealing with Akira that spam the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif with a double palm after it as well. I would either do that or just side step the double palm after the jab and take advantage of the fact Akira is at a major disadvantage if that move misses after it is side stepped. Same goes with those that use the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif after a jab as well.

4K is 2 frames slower than low punch, but it's special high, so it will hit someone during the startup of a low punch, even though they're crouching. I think 43P is 1 frame slower than a low punch, but will duck highs as said, that move is usually best for beating sabakis. Both moves lose to a low punch from neutral frames as far as I know, so I can't really recommend them. EDIT: What's with all the random slow moves to beat low punch advice? 3P is a 16-frame mid with no special or sabaki properties... it loses to low punch from neutral just like everything else. Also, it's a punch, not an elbow.

If you're close to your opponent, just block the punch/low punch while standing, then fuzzy or ETEG or reversal-throw escape to beat the throw and double palm.

I think your best bet in a match like this, though, is to get some range. 66K will go over lows, and while it will technically lose to a high punch, unless your opponent was expecting you to dash in, he's probably dashing forward himself to set up a high punch, and then the kick will hit while he dashes. Spamming 66K is sort of a noob Aoi attack, but it's strong against weak players, abuse it when people let you.

Also, as much as people will tell you Aoi's evade P+K really sucks, it's only real use is against high and low punches, so again, a move that's useful here, despite usually sucking.

3P+KP might also be good... I think the built-in evade on 3P+K will avoid both high and low punches, and while the first hit will whiff on a low punch, the second hit will at least leave you unthrowable. I have no idea whether you'd be hit out of the second attack by a double palm, or beat the double palm, though... needs testing.

well thanks for the correction on the frame data, i figured /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif executed slower than low punch after i posted, even though i dont know the frame data for aoi, that shouldve been painfully obvious, but i wasnt sure about /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

fuzzy guarding and eteg in that situation is standard advice for all characters,in my defense, i wanted to post something aoi specific in regards to her moves, and personally /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif does work for me alot against low punch spammers

and i think wether /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif evades low/high punch or not is dependant on the oppenents stance,i tried this a while ago, go to dojo, set the opponent to counter with high/low punch, then evade to one side, and then try the other, you will get hit going to one side, and evade going to the other, weird

@Sorias thanks for the advices mate. I'd most def. should train the ETEG&reversal-throw escapes in dojo. Thinking back about that match those would probably have been my best way out.

3p+kp, the P will get beaten by double palm because the first hit of the string whiffs, I can say that with 99% certainty without checking in dojo.

4k and 43p are both wonderful moves but in this situation they only lead to getting a CH low/high punch unfortunatly.

Sounds like you're one step ahead as you see what's going on. Your guy probably only doublepalms after low P. So if you spot low P, you can reverse the double-palm that's probably coming next - OR - block it. Akira gets -15 for that. You get a free minor counter with a 14 frame starter. You can /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or whatever else Aoi can do for decent damage (pardon me if /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif sucks as a string - I just saw it has 14 frame startup - I don't anything else about it).

If you block /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, you still have disadvantage. If you expect a throw (He won't do doublepalm after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif because that's likely too difficult for a spammer), go ahead and use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Then watch what he does next. If he usually stops - you can throw. If he usually keeps attacking, you can attack again and get the CH.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is listed as a 16-frames move. Have I miss something ?
I don't really use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif / /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif except for okizeme ( if I want to be flashy), moreover It never evaded a low punch or any low for me. I really tried this move in dojo and yes, for example it does evade a elbow after your own elbow blocked if you evade at the right direction, but couldn't find more. And for this situation, safer options with better rewarding are recommended ( like sabaki, YY parry, Fuzzy guard...)

Aoi has nothing against low punches ( I heard in VF5 R she has a sabaki against high punches and low punches, I'm happy if it is true), learn to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif immediately if you blocked a low punch, or apply usual defensing options if you eat one.

Against low punch whores who attack even if it is blocked, low block the low punch and go immediately for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif follow by combo.

    And after a blocked dble palm, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is free. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif if you feel confident /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is not a natural combo, only /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is

Im no aoiexpert, but backdash to sidekick is what Id use against lowpunch spam, people like that propably arent very good to struggle from the stagger.

Or if they just spam in response to anything, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

Blocked doublepalm is -15, although depending on stance it may push you away from throw or short attack range. KPK propably works but I havent tried.
