Hi, I don't know where on the forum to stick this so I thought here would be the best place.

I've recently gone back to playing Fighting Vipers on the PS2 (Sega Ages arcade version) and think it's absolutely awesome. The thing I need help with is Sanman's link throw:

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif.

I used to think that the Saturn pad was at fault back in the day for the difficulty of the move, but now I have the Real Arcade Pro and the 60fps arcade version, it must be the timing I just can't get right.

I can get the first 2 throws 100% but have NEVER done the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif successfully. I don't know when to start the 360 motion, I thought recently after playing VF5 that you might have to buffer the full motion in quickly as in Aoi's link throws, but even when done as fast as possible it hasn't worked.

I know it's a long shot that a VFDC member will have the answer but there is nowhere else I could ask this question (with FV being such a 'hardcore fans only' game in this day and age).

I'm sure many veteran VF players like myself must have been an FV fan back in the mid-late nineties and some of you may remember how to pull off Sanman's link throw.

    Hope you can help.

    Thanks.

i know how to perform that link throw but it's been so long that i've forgotten the timing. you prolly hafta slightly delay the last throw command.

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea when to do the last throw. I don't know whether you start the command as soon as the 2nd throw starts, when it's half way through, at the end of the throw or even before it. I've tried lots of variations but I've had no success.

I love how the game has lots of commands that are harder to do than any in VF, I don't have any problems with any other move on FV, but it's just this last hit of the link that I can't get down.

    Can anyone else help?

    Thanks.

I'm sure I've done it a couple of times before. Final Overdrive was probably the second hardest move in the game after Kumachan's "Super Washington Treaty".

I'll have a look and see when it's supposed to be done.

Edit - I just did it now. Only once, but the way I did it was to hit the first two moves straight away and then the third one was a short period after (like a second or so).

I remember trying to do this throw in Fighters Megamix. I concur with getting the last part of the chain throw is pretty hard.

IIRC, you can't buffer the last part. It sorta had a timing like Jeff's TKOD in that you had to wait for the character to hit the floor.

Thank you both for the help. I thought that would be how you did it. I thought about buffering in the first 2 and then delaying before inputting the third hit but I never got it right.

Ash, did you input the last hit like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ub.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif quickly, roll it slowly or input 5 separate directions? Also, can you remember what Sanman's animation is like when you started/ended the motion? Thanks.

    Shag, what's Jeffry's TKOD?

I'll give it another try the next time I play.

EDIT: That Kumachan move was obviously harder but I don't count it as he was just a tacky Saturn extra.

Lemmy, I rolled it using the Saturn arcade stick (it's ridiculously stiff) and got it to work another two times after. I can't unfortunately remember the animation state though. If I was to guess, it would be just as he was picking them back up.

The TKOD I assume is the Toe Kick -> Splash Mountain, as that doesn't work as a hit throw and has a weird timing on it.

Sanman had way more throw combos from the Overdrive in FV2, but the timing was pretty strict. Also, the lack of proper command list didn't help either. They were awesome though.

Also, Kumachan was a pretty lame character, but it was fun to make him shrink by smashing his armour off.

Yeah, I love both FVs. for FV2, I had to go to a FAQ and write all the moves onto paper. Horrible process but it's great now I have all the moves written down.

BTW, I've just gone back to FV on the PS2 and once I have played it enough to know all the moves, I'm gonna play FV2 for DC again so I can see exactly what was added/changed for the sequel.

I never played part 2 enough in the past so once I've remembered everything about the first one I'll go back and have a massive session playing it.

EDIT: Yeah I can't stand Kumachan. I also hated Fighters Megamix because of all the dirty extra characters. Who the fuck wants to use Bahn to beat up a Daytona car or a lump of meat? TACKY. Plus I'll never forgive it for stealing 3/4 of VF3's new moves and sticking them on the VF2 models (and worse, giving some of them to the Vipers). It took VF3 and FV, and ruined them in the process of sticking them on one game. The separate games are 10 times what that mess was.

But that's a different issue and I know some of you will have liked it. Just my views on the game.

I'll let you know how I get on with the throw combo.

I remember it being pretty easy but my memory is probably off.

Yeah Tokio and Bahn were the bestest. Mahler was pretty awesome too, He always seemed like a coked up version of Lau.

I like them all. Bahn doesn't have quite enough moves in FV1 though and Jane seems far too powerful.

Bahn still was too strong. He did'nt need no more moves. He was the Akira of the basically. Hard hits galore.

It was all about Mahler in the sequel. His armour was awesome as well.

Does anyone have the promotional image from the arcade release with all the characters on it? I've been looking for that for ages. Either that or the images of the characters drawn by Mr. Imaitoons.

I didn't say he was shit, I know how useful he is but I just feel he is a little too repetitive as he has what seems like a VF1 amount of moves. I still play as him as much as the others though.

Sorry for the bump but I was enjoying the FV discussion before my damn BT Internet connection gave out for a couple of weeks.

I heard from the developers that Tokio wasn't "the man" at all. He was apparently the weakest character in FV1 (I always loved playing as him though). Tokio was the first port of call for the developers when making new moves and balancing the game for FV2 and they say they tried to beef him up to the level of the other characters. As he was still a favourite in Japan, despite being a little weak.

As for Bahn not needing any more moves someone never told Sega as he's finally a supreme ass-kicking machine in FV2. He has lots of awesome (and awesomely useful) new moves that finally molds him into a consistently enjoyable fighter and even more crushingly powerful than even in FV1's iteration.

And I can finally do all of Sanman's throw combo variations (although I had to find some of them out because the only available FAQ has screwed up moves and omissions aplenty - so be warned if you ever pick the game back up and take this FAQ as gospel).

The weird thing is I can only do Sanman's full throw combos (hanging neck throw thingy) on FV2, even though I bet anything it was the same timing on FV1 :/. I went back to FV1 when I found it out on 2 to see if I could get it to work JUST ONCE, but no...
I even have an arcade pro for PS2 Vipers (while on FV2 I'm using the more crummy DC stick) so the stick isn;t to blame... Crazy.

Really? Tokio was the weakest? At least they gave some of his move to Lion and Jacky. Lion has his Mid crouch Move which was very use in FV and Megamix with the same usefulness. Even Lei Wu Long jack his Razor Rush combo lol!

That's a pretty hi-res image of Grace, where did you get it? There's seems to be ZERO info or images concerning Fighting Vipers 2 anywhere on the Internet. Did you scan it yourself?

In FV2, Tokio also has what became Vanessa's standard /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif throw (done as Half-Circle backwards /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif). I think there are a few things like that in FV2, moves that were added into later VFs.
