Thanks to 001 providing me the link a while back, I can confirm that the JC-PS201U PS1/PS2 to USB converter works flawlessly with the PS3. So, anyone who wants to use their existing PS2 sticks and/or doesn't want to spend the money to import a VSHG or HRAP3, this is a perfect alternative; especially since many of us are so used to the stick we have already been using for years. There is one small catch though, it will set you back $38 ($19+$19 s&h) Here is a link:

I can finally begin training for VF5 in earnest now, and get back my sanity after having to wait several weeks to play the game, under perfect conditions. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Which game did you try it out on?

The PS10- worked fine with DR but won't work for VF at all /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif This one does though?

Both the Elecom 201 and 202 work with VF...

I have a lil' converter section going on here at http://www.SDTEKKEN.com /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Click on Tech-Area then check Converters.

    Yes,

the Elecom PS201 works flawlessly with my MAS arcade stick (which is wired for PS2) for VF5. Stable transfer, no lag, perfect signal. I even have a PS2 controller cord extension connected to the converter as well. I took a huge risk paying almost $40 (price + s&h from Japan) for this adapter/converter, and it payed off! If you're willing to pay that much for a converter (considerably cheaper than importing a PS3 stick), it should be a safe investment. For me, it was worth not having to wait until the beginning of May (at the earliest!) for a Nyko or Pelican. If anyone is willing to wait though, I heard those 2 will only cost around $10.

    MarkMan,

I clicked on that link to read your section on converters. It stated that there were some slight lag issues using the PS201 with VF5. I was playing for hours last night, and experienced absolutely no lag issues with a MAS stick. Perhaps it is stick dependent, but that really doesn't seem to make sense to me. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Are you sure there is no lag? From my testing with Elecom convertors as well as some others they have experienced lag with VF.

With Tekken, I thought there wasn't any lag, but upon further inspection and more frame dependant stuff, it was apparrent to me there was SLIGHT lag...

Game Watch did some testing comparing an Elecom convertor vs an HRAP3 and they came to the same conclusion of the slight lag... it was this article here:

    http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20070226/ggl.htm

They tested an HRAP1 with a Elecom 201.

I'll put the command displays on in Dojo Mode, and I'll report back later; whether or not there is even the slightest noticable lag. But after playing for several hours last night; I think I can already answer this.

As for Guiter Hero, I'm not sure. But I do know that a PS button is obviously not required with this converter, nor is an analog button. So there is a good chance it will work with the guiter accessories. Hopefully someone else can confirm this.

Btw Markman, is there a way to read that site that you provided the link to, in English? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

So far there is only ONE converter that works with PS2 games... its a generic brand named PS2/PS3 Converter... there is a lil' write up of info on that converter on my site:

You meant PS3, right? I think that is the one for sale on ebay (in a black box with a solid blue background?). I have one of those on the way as well; should be any day now. I tested th JC-PS201U today in Dojo Free Training, with all of the command displays turned on. Everything is instantaneous and smooth, the controls are perfect. If there is even the slightest amount of lag (which I doubt), it's not affecting any of the inputs for my characters thus far. All of Aoi's muli-throws and 270's are coming out effortlessly and instantly; no noticable lag whatsoever. Same goes with the controls displayed on the screen (the joystick hits all of the points as soon as I make the movements).

I'm usually very good with the inputs, especially the circular motions from playing lots of SF over the years. I'm actually screwing up less in VF5 than I did on VF4 for PS2; with the exception of Wolf's fastest input giant swing. I think they changed the timing of this move, it's seems harder now. But with some practice, I'm getting to a point where I'm almost 100% consistent with it. If someone can confirm this change, than maybe lag is or is not a factor here. I doubt it has to do with the converter signal though; I think timing on it in VF5 has been adjusted from VF4. If anyone can confirm this, please do.

I meant, there is only ONE converter that I know of that works with PS2 games...

The PS2/PS3 converter lets you use PS2/PS1 arcade sticks/controllers with PlayStation 2 games on the PS3. So yes, Guitar Hero and Street Fighter Anniversary etc will work with your sticks....

Throwmasta, I don't mean to disrespect what you're saying about lag, but no one can visually see a frame or two of lag between pressing a button and the command display. If the lag is consistent, it also won't affect your ability to do 270s or whatever.

A better way to test the lag would be to do one of the vf4 evo challenges that requires hit checking, because that will be affected by lag. Do it with and without the converter (ie on ps2,then ps3) and keep track of your success rates.

Or don't worry about it and enjoy the game /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I'm just simply stating that there is absolutely no noticable lag thus far. Wouldn't I pick up on it during all range movement, evading, crouch dashes, etc. (?). Not just 270's and tapping motions (which register flawlessly), but even basic stuff. Perhaps there is lag, I would think that MarkMan has tested it much more in depth than I have; after reading his converter reviews. But thus far, the game has controlled flawlessly to the point where I have had nothing happen that suggests there is any sort of hesitation in the response time of the converter.

Also MarkMan, after checking out that link and reading your review of the PS2/PS3 converter that you mentioned earlier; that is NOT the one I ordered off of ebay. And I also discovered before you posted again, that you meant PS2 (I didn't check out the link 1st and just assumed you goofed, sorry).

KoD, I'm actually experiencing noticable lag when I play PS2 games on PS3 with the Sixaxis. So, the Evo training lag test may not be the best way to test the potential lag of the Elecom converter. I guess I should go look at how Markman tested the Elecom for VF5, and see if I experience the same issues. On the surface though, it doesn't seem like I'm experiencing any problems with the converter whatsoever.

i just received two of these
    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10085642&catid=

an adapter with a PS (HOME) Button and it works on PS2 BC just as PS3.

I tested out VF5 and T5DR on the PS3 side. And I tested out SFT3 TS on the PS2 BC side.

I tested out my custom dual shock Arcade Stick. Works great on the PS3 fighters (VF5 and T5DR), but I did notice some hiccups on the PS2 games in long extended play, it was strange like it decided to stop responding inputs, but oddly the PS3 games work fine)

I tested out my PS2 Saturn Pads. Works great on all three games.

Now I can retire my PS2 and donate it to my brother.

If the lag is consistent, you arent going to notice anything that is only dependent on your command inputs. You are only going to notice it when responding to actions on the screen.

    If there's consistent lag:

    you do:
    f~df~d~db~b

    game sees:
    __f~df~d~db~b

    ^lag

and so your move comes out fine, just a frame or two late. No one can actually see a frame or two.

But you could tell if you are, say, CD fuzzy guarding in response to seeing blocked move, with your normal timing, and you get hit / thrown anyway.
