So its 6:19am and I just finished watchign possibly the best Vampire movie in a loooong time. (yes i download it..). I liked it so much I even made this post.. heh. so I took the opportunity and possibly make this thread a recommendation thread. there are so many GOOD movies outside hollywood (duh). I'd like to know what NON-hollywood movie would you recommend, and I mean truly stand outs. to prevent people from posting a top 200 list (hehe), i think it would be better if you would type a short paragraph on the movie about why u liked it...just an idea...

anyway the movie I saw and highly recommend its called "Let the right one in" (tittle from Sweden, Låt den rätte komma in)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/ see the reviews...

and its playing now in limited cities in the USA (its playing in new york! angelika theater). sadly / fortunately its already out on the net, but like a good pirate, if you like it, pay for it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif (but now that you know its in theaters, see it first THERE). so im supporting this movie and will see it in the theater and will buy dvd (might read the book too, more stuff they dont explain in the movie).

    6:30am , excuse the spelling.

and some guy who is desperate to get laid gets in the mix, except his about to get married and his fiancee is an ugly hoe or some shit...

its pretty shit as a movie in itself, but it doesnt stop it from being fucking ridiculously hilarious

Black Cat White Cat, hell yeah!

    Thomas in love
French sci-fi drama shot entirely in first person. About an agoraphobe who's so far gone he doesn't dare to leave his appartment anymore. Through a dating service he hooks up with a girl. The film opens with a cybersex scene... That not enough to get you to watch it?

It's a rather talkative movie that digs into isolationist issues and the extreme way one could become dependent upon the internet. There's some extremely memorable scenes in this thing. Like the one where he goes outside or the call he makes to the doctor's office to get a new prescription, normally not such strange things, but in this guy's life nothing is ever 'normal'.

Gotta add some Dutch stuff of course.
Soldaat van Oranje (soldier of Orange 1977)
The only Dutch film with the "required watching" tag attached to it. This is Paul (Basic Instinct, Robocop, Total Recall) Verhoeven's breakthrough movie. It is also Rutger (Blade Runner, the Hitcher) Hauer's silver screen breakthrough.

It's the story based on the true accounting of a Dutchman who escaped to England at the beginning of the 2nd world war. It's recpetion was mixed because one of the friends of the main character joins the Germans and is portrayed as mostly a good guy, something nobody was really prepared for, especially in 1977.

    Zwartboek (aka black book)
Paul Verhoeven with another WW2 movie, this time about a Dutch/Jewish girl infiltrates the local gestapo headquarters. 2006 and already a classic.

The Legend of the Holy Drinker (1988)
Quite probably Rutger Hauer's best performance. Italian film about a beggar with a pristine sense of virtue. Based on a book by Jewish author Jospeh roth. It is a movie about spirituality and one I've seen far too long ago and really should track down on DVD.

I'll just quote an imdb critic:
"The basic story line is a simple one, a street drinker (played by Hauer) is given $200 which he must repay to the saint chosen by the charitable old man who loaned him the money, as soon as he's able to do so, at his local church. At every opportunity Hauer gets to repay his debt, something unforeseen occurs and prevents him from doing so. Although the movie doesn't have wide spread appeal, its worth watching, if only for the superb direction and Hauers haunting performance, which may well be the finest of his career to date."
