1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

Is there a way we can create a system where more experienced/reasoned discussions are not drowned out by the mass of ignorant posts of generally little interest to most players with a significant commitment (either historical or current) to the game?

Likewise, for those newcomers to the game who do ask well thought out beginner questions, is there any way we can make sure they get quality answers? It seems a disservice to have ignorant/wrong answers to good questions.

Quite simply, in a mass free for all of opinions the search costs of finding intelligent threads to read and quality responses worth considering just seem prohibitive/wasteful. I know other boards have been successful with, in addition to open discussion boards, areas with more, though not necessarily draconian, moderating.

    Its kinda hard tho...

Everyone thinks that they're experienced and everyone wants to be heard.

Maybe have Character specific discussions. Along with general/technique related.

Seems like most posts are along the lines of:
    -how do I use X, X=Character
    -how do I beat X
    -how do I do Y, Y=Move
    -combo etc etc
-I keep getting hit by Y

So most queries are either character or general-character specific.

More advanced queries will along the lines of?
-frame data? its already on the way
    -TR/QR? done
    -body crossing?
    -MTEG, DTEG etc etc
-other system related specifics etc etc

Most of that has already been said and done already anyways.

Seems like the common goal is to improve at playing VF in general. So some/most of the advanced stuff has already been discussed but interesting topics of this sort are being cluttered by newbies queries.

Currently most of the posts are newbie posts.. so maybe character specific sections would help ease the clutter. As most posts in there are there to help them improve as a player or improve their knowledge both offensively and defensive vs particular characters. I.E. foundation skills or tactics.

I like the Idea of the Character specific forums. Im a long dedicated Pai user. I know my tag says im a newbie. I find it hard to actually find Pai movies and what I like to call "what other people do". Im not really asking for strats I just would like to know what others do that could possibly be better than what I do.

I dont think you will ever get your advanced players forum though. What I got from Ken's post is that in the advanced area the things are more like facts such as frame data and such and most players have easy access to that already or will soon. I understand the frustration a little though. When you have a good conversation about a certaint tech you get a post in there saying something along the lines of "How does this move actually work". Just something ya gotta put up with especially with the increasing popularity of VF with the PS2 release for non-Sega fans. People gotta take time to learn all the new terms. Mabey ice should put the Abreviations guide in big letters on the home page.

Jason, I understand your concern/frustration, and it's partly the reason why I created the Q&A board. However, I feel that it's simply not enough and that the overall forum organisation and board definitions need to be revisited.

Moby and myself are in the process of doing just that, so expect to see some changes in Versus City. In the meantime if you, or anyone else, have any suggestions on the matter, then let me know!

And before anyone asks (again), no, we're not going to have character specific boards.

Hmm, free exchange of information vs. higher quality. That is definatly a hard decision. From the standpoint of a to be teacher - I tend to believe there are no bad questions. However, some are better than others. I think Myke making the Q&A forum is a good first step. One of the biggest stigmas the VF community has to overcome is that of it's image of being snobbish. As I tend to see this site as the nexus of the American VF scene, great care should (as it has been) taken to make sure that this is a place people feel welcome in.
On that, character specific boards would be great, as well as maybe step/level boards. Have a step 1, 2, and 3 player level boards could be another step.
On making a judgment, which be like policing - who will police the police?

I don't think character specific forums are the answer. Many threads start talking about a single character, but then branch into discussions about another character as the thread evolves... Also, many legitimate threads are specific to 2 characters as in Kage vs. Akira or Lion vs. Jacky problems.
