Frequency of same-rank matches

Does anyone know the formula the CPU uses to pair you up in Kumite mode?

Reason being that you have to defeat 20 Dragonlord/Battlelords in a row to progress to High King/Emperor. Doing so is no difficult task but having the patience and mental stamina to trudge thru x number of HUNDRED matches when only a handful of them matter a damn gets freaking annoying after a while.

I know, i know..you should always enjoy playing the game blah blah blah. I'm just getting tired of stomping on the same old Kumite characters over and over again. I've demoted nearly everyone i've fought (minus the High Kings and YS, of course) once or twice, now there's hardly any Dragonlords or Battlelords to fight against. Instead the computer throws 3-5 Subjugators in a row at me, usually followed by a Vanquisher, Conqueror, Champion, Hero, or 10th Dan. Then on the six match u get a High King (la dee freakin da), whom i still face a hellalot more often than Dragonlords/Battlelords. </rant>

Is there any (honest or dishonest) method of increasing my chances of getting a same-ranked match? The old Start-Return-to-main-menu thing can cut out some of those matches, but i'm not sure if it's faster to do that or just pummel whoever i'm pitted against. And i'm not gonna level a character whose sole purpose is to throw matches as to promote another character. That's just lame.

I don't think there's any specific formula involved. As far as I know, there's no way to increase your chances of getting a ranking match. It's completely random.

They also hav huge gaps in rankings.

I remember when I got my 2nd Dan as Lion, and got paired against a Hero Akira (Fuzz) beat him 3 to 1, but still...

It seems the game continually promotes lower ranked characters to fill the gaps you make by demoting all the other "Kami" (Lord) ranked characters, so in the end it averages out I guess.
