I personally think that this thread would be started soon or later. I see in the near future that we will all play against people that we only seem in vids, like the japanese, koreans and U.K. players. I know that I won't mind seeing what Ryan Heart's Akira is made of first hand, heheh. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

Here are some of my impressions of people that I'd played with:

    Adam Yuki:
This bastard never loses focus or get frustrated easily. Defensive game tighter than fort knocks. Obviously Mentally strong and won't let his personal relationship get in the way of beating your ass down to the ground. /versus/images/icons/shocked.gif But put a cute ass asian girl in the room and watch him crumble like a dog. /versus/images/icons/smirk.gif Keep on pimping adam. /versus/images/icons/cool.gif

    Goose1:
Andy's game is very offensive with a nice defensive twist. Very versitale and active with his button sequences and won't let you think too long on what's coming next oh yah. /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

    GhostDog:
Nelson is very solid overall player and is improving his mental strength since technically, he's more than proficient with his reaction and inaction of all characters. /versus/images/icons/ooo.gif

    Have to goto work now.

    TO BE CONTINUED

Just a quick note Smurf. I think you mean GhettoShun, since Ghostdog lives in FL and his name isn't Nelson /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

I can relate. I only have two rivals in mind however:

Chris is the first Jacky player to give me hell on a stick. If you happened to catch the death matches between us at NYG3 you would have seen two guys going for the throat. Throughout the bout you would hear something like this from Blond1: "Yeah.... gotcha didn't I??"

    or from me:

"you stupid ass, had to get cocky huh??"

I know he's a much better player now and I can't wait till our next meet up.

The other player that stands out to me is Nelson aka Ghettoshun. This guy plays all the unorthodox characters with ease. A great guy too! During my trip to NYC I had the chance to play him the most and it helped tighten my Lion game and defensive skills.

No, you're right baobab. I put in the wrong name. Hey nelson, sorry dog. The problem now is that I can't go in and edit to make it right. /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

Jerky, I watched a ton of those Jacky versus Jacky fights at nyg3. They are intense. Just trying to kill each other. I had a blast playing you Pai versus Jacky.

For me, I sometimes have the most fun playing Ghostdog. Him and I laugh so hard when we play each other. Cause we drive each other crazy with our styles of play.

My ultimate rival is Super Golden (my twin brother.) He pisses me off whenever he goes into "I'm going to turtle and backdack all day" mode. But hey, I taught him everything he knows. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

For friends I'd have to say Hyun from Boston cause he's awesome and he was at Otakon and played in the VF4 tourney and then came up to Montreal when super and I were up there. The New York guys are awesome (Andy, Rodney, Nelson, Shag, and everyone). Same goes for the Toronto players (Super and I had a blast going up there for some Evo action and for the Rochester tournament down here where they came down). And, of course, Jedi_Fei cause (even though I havn't met the man) he listens to metal. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

I thought I'd put in some props for a guy who calls himself scrublau. I recently figured out he's a VFDC veteran... but he's apparently going around under a new nick and is laying low /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

When shadowdean said there was a really good Shun player (Wesley) and another really good lau player named Jun... I was a little skeptical. I'm conditioned into thinking there could never be good players living relatively close to me.

Wesley has a strong Shun and seems pretty much committed to only him. Josh is a Shun player as well and AkiraZero busted out mostly Lei Fei during our recent games (I think because he discovered the joy of backstaggering tech rolls). They all get the game pretty well.

Jun on the other hand... he's on a whole level above the rest of us. He could pick any character and cream me for at least.. I dunno, 4 out of 5 games? He's modest and would say to that "no it wasn't that much" or "I don't really play that well". Anyway he's a Lau player primarily and abuses the crap out of horrid P-elbow and lunging knife flowcharts. The reason he can pick characters other than Lau and do just as well is his defense. He E-DTE-G's with great consistency and has really good reflexes. If jun has a knee or some other big attack blocked... you never see him eat something silly like an XPD or a knee MC. You also see him react perfectly to low punch MC's or elbow MC. If you low punch and then try to throw him, he's ducking it... if you decide to elbow him next time, somehow he's standing. Dunno if it's yomi or reflexes or technique, but you just aren't gonna land big attacks or damaging throws on him. He also has some nice tricks and solid understanding of frames for Jeffry and Aoi and Akira.

After all of this I haven't given the due credit to shadowdean and wesley and akirazero (who was at the most recent MD gathering). They're all pretty solid but none of us has had to deal with truly sound defense until now. So hats off to Scrublau (lol) for showing us just how effective good defense is and for teaching us some of the tricks for getting through it.

My arch rival is Rich - Namflow... VF is the game we are the most competitive with...

As for friends, first I gotta give a shout out to Hyun because he made it to March Madnes, Otakon and Montreal... Also the other Boston players, the NYC players for showing up whenever we are in town and the Toronto guys for hanging out with us both up there and down here in Rochester....

Also yeah Rich and I know what it is like to see a Lau we've never heard of before come and school us... Ever play with D (?) I think hes from Virginia (maybe closer to Roanoke)... His Lau still scares me...

    That is all,

    -Alex

Hey stomp, I'm really looking forward to playing your unpredictable pad pai again. You're probably the most dangerous pad player out there now dude. I remember the first time that I'd saw your skillz against Mike from Cali who was using wolf. Man I was stunned by how fast your pai was moving and Mike was probably even more overwhelmed since he couldn't do anything against you, hhaha. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

You better prepare for some long hours of EVO battles dude because you're not getting any sleep when you ass is in NYG again, hehehe /versus/images/icons/shocked.gif Besides you can do your own shit when you're back home.

Ya, here, here. Really, Jun's Lau...wait, x-dat, Jun's (insert any character here) is just another level than I am used to playing against regularly. I swear the fucker could read my thoughts or was playing some jedi mind tricks. I would like to think my shun is pretty solid in that a lot of people bitch about him...I figure the more people bitch about a character, the better I play him, but my shun is my ONLY character I could have a shot in hell realistically beating him while he is alert....hehe, that being said we had some great 4 am in the morning fucking around matches with Jeffry vs Jeffry heheh. AkiraZero - for someone who does not have any constant human competition, holy fuck, where did the skills come from dog?? He has a great sense of backstagger opportunities...it was ironic, last match played here he caught Jun in a backstagger lei-fei 100% combo...I was like, wow, thats fucked...he knew just how and when to time the arrow punch.
Creed - creed is more solid than he gives himself credit, I actually think he is the only person keeping himself back. What I mean is that it seems like he almost doesn't seem to care enough to improve his reactions...Its not like he doesn't know what to do in almost any situation, everybody here can attest to his complete knoweldge of the game. Get a joystick bro!!!!!
Creed's impressions of Wessly are straight on, a very solid and dedicated player. Very interesting shun, plays him very differently than I play shun (which most people will probally tell you is a good thing.) Well, time for class.

Hey leave Creed the VF bum alone. There is nothing wrong with people who use a pad besides it doesn't help when you're too lazy and too poor of a bum to afford one, hehhe /versus/images/icons/frown.gif . Anyway pad player use even more stillz and faster reaction when compare to you sillly sticks players anyways, hahaha /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

Thanks a lot for the kind words, Creed. The little gathering was definitely a lot of fun, especially during the late hours when ppl start to fool around /versus/images/icons/grin.gif Big thanks to Shadowdean for his great hospitality and a very nice conference room (50' tv is always nice to play around with).

My impression about the MD group (Wes, Creed, Sdean) is that we all suffer from the common 'lack of competition' vf syndrome. Creed has shown that he can play almost all character to a competitive level, and knowing a great deal of knowledge on many situations. Sdean certainly has improved tremendously since NYG1 (lol), his shun gave me a lot to think about (i feel so stupid still about eatting u/f PKG, throw all the time /versus/images/icons/confused.gif ) I think it fits Shadowdean's style cuz he likes to mess around at the most unexpected places and Shun has many move that will do that perfectly. Wesley is another 'victim' of lacking vf experience, nevertheless he does show that he can adapt quickly to any yomi situation (delay shrm for evaders....etc), just a matter of carrying out the punishment more fluently. Again that will come with more playing time.

It was fun playing with Akirazero, who doesn't have vf competition experience prior to the gathering but did really well. i am still feeling the pain of the vicious 100% backstaggering Lei combo /versus/images/icons/wink.gif You should definitly try to get together with the NYC players.

Regarding to my defense... i am just abusing the fact that you guys didn't have to deal with evade throw escape much before. If you can catch me doing it, i will be eatting a knee or delay throw for devastating dmg (which will prolly scare me into not doing it all day and back to the 'eat a knee/eat a spx' yomi) Anyway with more experience i am sure you wouldn't find it as intimidating as it looks.

It is nice to play competitively with a group of people (>2) for a change /versus/images/icons/crazy.gif If only the 'pupil' had shown as much interest in vf as he is today /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

Oh yes, be very afraid of Akira Zero's TRBSoD combo with Lei!!! He's not too bad at throw escaping either; especially when you try to land a machine gun tackle on him near the wall, and he escapes it everytime /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

I have a few big rivals....like mike92123 from socal, I can't stand that guy....and then there's the pig from STL who shall remain nameless....and of course, Jedi-Fei, but I won't go near him now so that rivalry is over....

My other big rivals... Dre and his 96% Akira character. Holy cow, didn't put a dent on that winning percentage.

Akira Zero. Because he moved out of the pad players world.

Creed: Because according to him, I play very random. lol.

Shou Sama: Because I am not supposed to lose to him! lol
