FS Character Storyline: Lau

Although unsuccessful in his bid to win the 4th World Fighting Tournament, Lau was still able to come away with something of great importance; a worthy candidate for continuing the legacy of his martial art, Koen-ken. That successor was to be Lei-Fei. Certain that he was running out of time against the mysterious illness afflicting him, Lau agreed to accept the young monk as an apprentice. Showing great promise, Lei-Fei’s strength and vitality bitterly reminded Lau of himself when he was younger. Lei-Fei was completely obedient and proved to be an eager student under Lau’s tutelage.

And then one day, the incident occurred. Lei-Fei suddenly turned on Lau and savagely attacked him. Weakened by the advanced stages of his illness, Lau’s reactions were sluggish. Overwhelmed, he staggered as Lei-Fei’s strikes aimed for his vital points with deadly precision. Beaten senseless, Lau fell to his knees and resigned himself to his fate. Just as Lei-Fei was preparing to finish him off, Pai intervened and managed to drive the monk away, avoiding the worst.

Lau had always put his family second after his blind, single-minded pursuit to master Koen-ken, but at that moment, through Pai’s actions, he saw that there was still a bond between him and his daughter; a bond that could not be broken no matter how strained it had become. However, with death rapidly approaching, he felt there was nothing more he could offer his daughter. Lau let Pai pursue Lei-Fei, and left before she returned. He had decided to remove himself from her life, and go on to fulfill his own as he had always done.

He was in a supposedly secret location when one day an invitation to the 5th World Fighting Tournament mysteriously arrived. Lau knew that this fight would be the last chapter of his life when he resolved to enter the tournament.
