Gamespot VF5 Video Interview TGS

    for people who say why not xbox360 version first
    its pretty much confirmed Nvidia was the quickest way to port it.
    Also developer claims that all the costume data wouldnt fit on a standard DVD disc.
    Seems like no xbox360 version will be made, if so itll be lower textures.

    I remember Itagaki complaining how he couldnt fit full resolution movies on DVD as well.

    Likewise, the person being interviewed seems like he's kissing sonys ass quite a bit.

    Dude, if you got a several-million-dollar exclusivity deal, I'm sure you'd be more than enamored with Sony as well!

    BS....so then why is Virtua Tennis 3 able to be made?

    BS...if a game like Oblivion can fit on one DVD disk Im pretty sure some costumes would be no problem

    The resolution seems to be fine in DOA4, but it's CG movie footage so I dont really care since it has nothing to with playing an actual game

    Im just reiterating whats stated in the interview, seems like someone got offended. Blame AM2 and Microsoft for not securing a deal. Fight all you want, but it doesnt look it its gonna happen for the Xbox, regardless of the reasons. In the end I just want to play VF5.

    Srider contrary to what you believe, coding between cards is not the same as windows because theres no shared API like Direct X or OpenGL. I remember John Carmark, stated in his .plan file during the early Doom 3 development phase, having difficulties creating a uniform light source thatll output the same results on Nvidia and ATI cards due to architectural differences, even with with a unified API at hand. Given that theres no shared API between PS3 and XBOX360, porting to XBOX360 is a even much more difficult task which also = $$.

    It has nothing to with the Nividia thing at all. (Of course it makes it easier,). As Brisal said VT3 is on the 360 and PS3. It's not that big a deal especially for AM2. If you want to play VF5 on a console at the moment your gonna have to get a PS3. If they ever do a 360 version, we'll all know about it eventually.

    RSX + Cell != 6800 + Intel.... ok?

    It's porting for either system. So it has nothing to do with the fact that PS3 is utilizing Nvidia chips.

    We're not likely to ever know how much of Sega's "technical reasons" for porting to PS3 first are true ... unless someone get firsthand info from a Sega employee working on the conversion.

    Could be market forces (Japan VF market), could be a secret exclusive deal with Sony, could be because Sega's mad at Microsoft for trying to impose online gaming on VF5, or whatever ... we could keep posting and argue on til VF5 appears on our doorstep in whatever playable form it takes (@$%^ Chicago!).

    However, unless one of us manage to force Sega to order the change from PS3 to X360 (anyone got a Spec Ops background and can plan a kidnapping of Sega's board of directors?), all we can do is post our rantings here ...

    Since they're porting it to PS3, if we wanna play we gotta get it. I'm just glad that when X360 debuted I glanced at the list of games it had and decided that they're not worth 1/2 year of bread and water diet (just kidding).

    Actually those are very logical reason on why sega didn’t announce VF5 for the X360.
    I don't know why some people here upset about it not being on X360. if they think that VF5 being on X360 will mean sooner release than being it on a PS3, than that's a wrong answer. Coz sega just "June" released VF5 in arcades and it will hurt the arcades if they release it sooner than the spring release.

    Beside, some people here like me are glad that sega decided to release VF5 on PS3 rather on X360. Coz the simple fact is I don’t want to buy console "X360" that I'm not convinced with. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    My takeaways:

    - The translation regarding the Nvidia chip said something about "This is why we decided to develop first for the PS3." Does anyone want to re-translate what he said to doublecheck whether he really said "first?"

    - He could be telling the truth about the DVD capacity because Lindbergh has 1.25 GB of on-board memory versus Xbox 360 having only 0.5 GB of memory. I don't think this would be much of a problem though if they spent some time on compression for the 360.

    - Virtua Tennis isn't nearly as complicated as Virtua Fighter.

    - He mentioned again that he would like to try online play but only as a new title, which makes me think this is more than just speculation. This could mean a Fighers Mega Mix type game.

    And that Virtua Tennis isn't as complicated as VF is proven by the fact that they're going to release VT in 1080p (or what Sony calls full-HD) on the PS3.

    I also think that the first should indeed be taken more in the context of: "our first choice as a platform was the PS3". Diplomatically leaving the debate about the money behind the deal a silent partner.

    In the official PS3 game 2006 catalogue, Kataoka says that the arcade version has enormous amount of data that whouldn't fit in a DVD. But thanks to Blu-rau they are able to implement VF5 for PS3.

    And so does the PS3.
    Both PS3 as well as 360 have roughly half a gig of ram.
    512mb to be precise, PS3 however ends up with LESS useable RAM because the chunk the services take is 96mb whereass the 360 takes a much more nimble 32mb for background processes.

    In short, ram has absolutely nothing to do with storage media.
