I’m a noob to vf4 (but not to other fighting games) and I cant seem to get wolf to consistently do the 100 damage giant swing instead of the 80 damage giant swing.I noticed that thw way the A.I/computer enters it is like this[4_][2_][6_][P][G], but that is immpossible to do quick enough with the D-pad and im having a hard time getting it off otherwise. any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.

    roll through
    [4][1][2][3][6]
as fast possible, and it should work.

What gamesmaster said pretty much sums it up. I can pull it off 95% of the time or more (against human opposition or the cpu); even after setups like [2][P], evades, and Wolf's stagger/throw combos. Of course, I don't think I'd be able to do it with a PS2 controller though. Do you have a joystick? I own a MAS. It makes circular inputs (especially very fast ones) much easier to do consistantly IMO.

actually, i think it is EASIER with the controller, as there is such a small area to run through, you literally have to move you thumb about 1 or 2 cm's.

For you maybe; I just can't play a fighting game with a controller /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif . Ever since those good ol Street Fighter days...

I just tried this out tonight on my HRAP3, and oh man is it tough. i still haven't pulled it off. When I watch the demo, it shows the directions at only 1 frame. When I input the command, some of the directions are two frames. If thats the difference between doing that move and not doing that move, thats just ridiculous. Akira's knee was tough, but this... 6 commands at only 1 frame?

Each directional input must last only one frame (making the fastest input GS total at 6f), but it isn't that hard - just get into the habit of doing a really fast half circle, as fast as you can but without missing the main directions.

Akira's knee is much harder in practice.

    i pulled it off by doing a  /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif insted of doing just /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif . you need at least 2 frames in every input.

    And don't be complaining that 270F / 270B are impossible! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

The most important factor imo is the timing of your P+G command.

Don't hold /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif at the beginning of the command, and make sure to input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif as quickly as possible so you don't end up making extra /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif commands count.

Well for the people with the HRAP3, try this method. I am able to get the throw out at least 70% of the time mid match. When i do the motion, the stick doesnt touch the square gate or very little at most. Like what was said before, I just roll it across the motion quick without letting it touch the walls of the square gate. I also noticed my stick in neutral after the inputs. I dont know this really works for me. Give it a shot.

how exactly do u do the fastest input for Giant Swing? I thought u just semi circle + grapple? or do u have to press more buttons after u manage to successfully swing him?

You just do it as fast as you can.

If you go into dojo mode, and turn on the input display, you can check how long it took you to input each command.

When you add up the frames, PGS will occur when your total input is done in 8 frames or less. Trick is to skip downforward in your input.

I decided to fool around with this command in the Dojo, since I was getting inconsistent results in Vs play. I'd tried almost all the suggested tips, and merely practiced for hours (this seemed to get me furthest, there seems to be a "feel" to it, but doing it well still illudes me). I wanted to see exactly when I did and didn't get the fastest GS, and compare it to what Srider has said about 8 frames or less, and compare what I was able to do with the example given in Command Training. The results I came up with are pretty interesting, so I thought I'd share them here. to be honest, I haven't been able to make sense of the results, so maybe others can help me figure it out.

We know this (or, at least I do now):

    1. Like Srider has said, you can skip some inputs. Specifically, you actually only need /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif for the Throw to work, in fast or slow form. This is substantiated by the fact that the commands for 270 Throws are also listed with only the 4 directions /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif etc.

    2. For the final input, you don't have to hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif together. Finishing with .../forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif works as well as /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. While I've never gotten the 100 point version myself using the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif method, I don't see why it wouldn't work; especially since I've gotten the 100 point ver. with much more extended inputs, like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif.

    3. Once the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif have been hit, so long as the command's conditions are met, the Throw begins execution. So the amount of time listed in frames for the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif input really doesn't matter (basically, how long you hold /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif doesn't matter). Essentially, we can always consider the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to last 1 frame, even though huge variances will still get both slow and fast GS's. In Command Training's example, the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif lasts 3 frames, although this is really only one frame, since on the first frame of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, the GS begins (LOGICALLY, because we know that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif also will work, there's no need to hold /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif together for any length of time) .

    4. According to Srider (this may be in a book/site somewhere), 8 frames total is the maximum ammount of time the command can take to get the GS100 (what I'll call it from here on out). This jibes with Command Training's example, which looks like this:

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif 1
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif 1
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif 1
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif 1
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif 3

for a TOTAL of 7 frames, although if we follow the logic above (and what we'll see in my data), the 3 frames of the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is really only one frame, making this input a 5 frame version. In a perfect world, the absolute fastest GS100's command would look like:

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif 1
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif 1
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif 1 (or any # really)

for just 3 frames. Both of these things support Srider's data, but when logging many examples last night, I got many GS100's and 80's that seem to break these rules, so that's why I'm making this post: to determine EXACTLY what's required for the GS100.

I logged 23 random examples of both versions of the GS's frame data. I took a lot of care in writing these down, and did a lot of examples so people could see the strange trends that I saw. Who knows, by the end of this, I might actually understand, but it's interesting nonetheless.

There are basically 8 positions that can be made during the course of the command: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. I'll list the frames for each example in these 7 columns. A "_" between numbers means that the stick stayed in position, while the buttons being pressed changed the status. This is listed in the game as a ")" that links the 2 inputs. I'm going to add totals after each one, counting the final /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif as 1, regardless of how long I held the command for (you'll see, it doesn't matter). I'll list the GS80's, then the 100's:

    average # of inputs: 4.45
    average # of frames: 8.8

Needless to say, I'm confused. There are of course obvious examples, like #'s 14 and 18, but in general, there are so many totals that come to over 8 in the GS100's that I was really surprised. There are a few trends that can be seen:

    1. There is no GS100 where all 5 directions were hit. In fact, there is go GS100 where both /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif were hit. Also, there are only 2 GS100s where I hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif, and on those 2, I didn't hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif. Even in Command Training's example, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif is not hit by itself, as it is in most of my examples, that one goes from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif1 to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif3, with no ")" either. Yet, in Sega's example, both /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif ARE hit.

    2. In general, the GS100s seem to have less inputs, while they actually have more frames on average. Yet, example 17 does have 6 inputs, which is also the max for the GS80s. This also leads me to believe that executing perfectly between /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif isn't as vital as getting from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif with the least ammount of inputs.

    3. I usually spent more time at /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif on the GS100s than I did for the GS80s. I don't think this really has any signficance, probably just telling about how my hands work. This was most likely because I was using the "Stumbling Throw" method I talk about below. But, this is usually what drove the frame count up so high for the GS100s, although it didn't keep the 100 from coming out, just as staying at /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif for a short ammount of time didn't make the 100 come out.

The closest 2 examples to my mind are #9 and #20, because the length of time spent at each point is so close, and the command is really similar. You could argue that #9 isn't a GS100 because I spent so much time holding /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, and that this is the crucial difference; but examples like 13, 18 and 19 prove this to be untrue from what I can tell. I feel the reason 9 isn't a GS100 is because of the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, even though the frames are basically the same, (I spent /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif2 on 20, while I did /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif1/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif1 on 9).

The only real conclusion I can come to at this point, and it's a vague one, is this:

Getting from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, while passing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif with the least ammount of inputs actually SEEMS more crucial than the total # of frames it takes you to do so. As Srider said before, if you can hit your /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif as early as possible, and skip /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif and/or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif, you'll have the best luck. Getting this "flick" feeling down with the timing of the buttons is where the trick lies.

I've been trying to use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif as in Akira's Stumbling Throw, then rolling to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif (if you look at most of the GS100s I hit, I used this method) as well as /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif then hopping to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif; but I'm not sure what's keeping me from real consistancy. I think if I can use the above method, modify it to jump as straight as possible from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif while hitting /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif together, without wasting time doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif blankly, I'll start to get it. I have to say, I have NO idea why #'s 11 and 12 are GS80s, looking at GS100s like 17, 22, 23 etc.

summahs secret training method for this is

do giant swing as fast as you can after you do a low jab, do this untill you get a feel for it. dunno why the low jab buffer helps. just mess around with it in training.

Not sure if this is in the Black Book either, but if it's anything like Evo, then the condition for the Fastest Giant Swing (FGS) goes like this.

From the completion of the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif input, you have 5 frames to complete the entire command.

This means that you can hold or dwell on /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif for however long you like. Once you start the command, the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif input only counts as 1 frame in the total. So, reduce the frames of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif to 1, and if the total number of frames is 6 (1+5) or less, then you successfully satisfy the requirement for the FGS. Huuuurrggghh!!!

So, Bryan, taking this into account, I've added the "real" total to your results by only considering the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif input as 1 frame in the cases where it wasn't:

With the exception of #17, all your commands successfully met the requirement by being 6 frames or less. There may be some special condition for #17 whereby if you hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif first but /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif a frame later, it registers as a single frame in total.

Doing the quick math on your normal GS's, most of them fail the FGS requiement, but some don't, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Maybe with this information you can refine and focus your testing to confirm the 1+5 frame rule for FGS.

BTW, I hate to force acronyms on people, but if people insist on abbreviating the fastest giant swing, then my vote is for FGS. "Fastest" is a more meaningful description of the command than say "Perfect" in PGS, or GS100 which should technically be GS80+20. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Oh, forgot to add my advice on how to perform it consistently.

Think of the input as a super fast /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, but in going from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, there's an ever-so-slight bias under the neutral position (so you technically register one of the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif inputs).

And for 2D gamers, think of a fast sonic boom, but passing below neutral just slightly.

p.s. I can't do it consistently, but this helps me get in the right frame of mind when I'm practicing it.

Life bar is 200 points, but you have to go past 0 points to KO someone. So two PGS (sorry Myke I'm too used to the term Perfect Giant Swing) that were not ukemied will get you exactly 200 points. You need 1 more point to KO.
