Rikojiang is an example of someone who understands how to play on live and adapt his game for the lag. It's only the small differences in offline play that determine winners and losers so it's hard to say how he would fight offline. Most of the time cutting in with 2p doesn't work, TE doesn't come out correctly and there are so many other minor errors that only someone paying attention would realize. I've played Rikojiang with my Aoi and once he saw that he could guard my guaranteed YY follow-ups we weren't playing real VF anymore. For social ruin like myke has said, the connection was not good enough and I believe no connection is good enough to judge how someone would win offline. I have played local players who know how to abuse the tiny lag and they can win much more online than offline.

Rikojiang is also an example of someone who understands the system and can therefore win with nearly any character. This is what also makes any VF player strong offline and is what separates how people learn the game. I've seen him playing Lion for example and he can win without using maximum damage combos or many of lions moves. He is using a minimal approach of 2_6P, sweeps, elbow and using 66+K counter throw attempts, p and 2p. Once you can win with these you can win with so many characters as you are just a stronger player overall. He can combine this use of minimal tools and system knowledge with fast adapting to the connection.

Social Ruin you should change the sentence: "This guy plays a lot of characters at a high level. to "This guy plays the game at a high level". I can tell you many times I have met players who can play a character better than I can but I can win more with the same character because I know how to stop them using minimal tools and system knowledge like how to clash, which direction to dodge a rising attack etc. without really knowing many character specific details.

Actually because Japanese players have stopped playing 5 and are playing 5R I think the Korean players should have a better chance at winning this year.

This is very true. I have been playing Jacky here, who I have played since VF3, but laid off a lot in the last two years. But on XBL I can beat a number of people who have Jacky as their main just because I am better in a textbook sense, ie I can play a better game with p, 2p, 6p and throws than they can.

It also doesn't help that Jacky has spammable crutches that allow players to get by without really improving as much as they could if they could not use these things, ie beat knuckle, slide shuffle, dmpk.

And because these moves are a little irritating, it is sort of satisfying to beat guys who abuse them, even if it is mainly because I have spent an ungodly amount of time playing the game.

Thanks for pulling me out of Tekkenland tonight Stomp. Overall it was hard to keep you locked down because I couldn't find solid exploits because of your reactions at small disadvantages. The only thing I seen was you evading upwards with eteg. It's important to get more damage though. Alot of matches you hit me more than I hit you but I'd hurt u more lol. Use eileen's poke game to open up for bigger attacks i.e. 9k+g combo or her hcb grab.

Also, good post Andy. I think I play the same as riko, in the sense that I play most of the cast in the exact same simple/effective fashion. That's how core VF is designed. I remember Boris telling me my Lion was the most boring effective lion he'd ever played.

thanks cozby for the input. I will put that into note. I have played like 9 people with my new Eileen and my new pad. So I will keep trying.

good games to familia. ahhahaha fun times.. great stories.. remember.. I got more!

The irony to effective play is most people read it as boring. I won't lie, I'm part of that majority. It's the sweet irony that I think will forever keep VF in the US as a sideshow as opposed to a main stream fighter.

Good games to Dennis again. Always fun. Our connection has been better than it was a year ago. Thanks for not ringing me out with Kage TFT. Very sporting of you... Then I rung you out with Jeff's box throw and I felt like a dick.

In5frames was crushing me again. He is very solid textbook wise. i want to know who he is.

And Boris... Jeff and Lion is pretty fun.

    ggs man

    I could've sworn in5 was cozby.....

ggs to erdraug. I was thinking "hmm I haven't played erdraug in a while" guess who I saw soon as I press search...
An odd '3 bar' connection in which I couldn't use parry but I reckon you would've had the edge on me even if it was perfect. So many excellents in that game lol and geez I was having a yomi overload in in one five match string; guessing Vans sitting on top of you thing five times in a row on the first time-nuts.

    Gg's ta,

T-fam - nice session man. I didn't put my mic on cause I had company over at the time and didn't want to be rude.

Kahn Rahn - great session too man, nice mix ups with the monkey girl. Connection felt pretty darn good on my end, don't know how it was for you but it was nice for me. Crazy since you're all the way in France (lu!^^). Got disconnected eventually though lol, all good though cause I had to leave not too long after anyways.

Oathbreaker - dunno if you post here but ahh well. Crazy to find someone on that late, especially with a good connection. Glad ya hung around for a while.

cja256?(I forget the numbers lol)- Fun session man and nice spacing and mix ups man. I forgot to drop ya a friend request, will do in a few minutes when I log on. Hit me up for some games whenever.

Oh yea, Soulkatana, great games man. Looking foward to more.

Gg's to whoever else I forgot. Anyone hit me up with a friend request if i'm not on your list already and you're still playing VF5. If i'm not good enough, well, no problem, you can just remove me. It's cool I understand. I'll remember that when i'm good enough to bust your ass though lol [IMG]

GG's to plague tonight, first time playing VF in a week or 2 now that Tekken came out. When I popped VF in and played with Jeff, it felt so damn weird just coming off Tekken lol. Your throws were killing me, I could escape them here and there but there were too much, I have to say though this was one of the worst 3 bar connection I ever had. Also it's Halloween and all so everyone is huddling in front of the damn TV pouring candy on the ground, I smile but deep inside, I knew I can escape that borea. [IMG]

Also gg's to people who are true to VF and still playing that over Tekken, I'm guilty to say I'm not one of those guys ATM though, guess I can't be blamed for that though.

haha. just played him a few with my rusty-as-hell lei fei. deadringer. had a couple of characteristics that were just like cobzy. IMO

Also notice that in5 is a sub account, i.e. doesn't really play anything but vf5...

and no one ever really quits vf5 online.
