Just wondering how most of you and some of the better VF players in the world position your hand on your arcade stick.

Do you use an overhand position, like your palm over top of the ball or bat?

Do you use a underhand position with the stick itself in between your fingers?

Do you use your fingers in an over hand type position and move the stick with the tips of your fingers?

You get the point, discuss please....

Semi-underhand with stick between middle and ring finger. Practically controlling the stick with the middle and ring fingers.

Middle and Index fingers very loosely wrap the ball.

Almost shake-hands orientation of the hand.

Generally it works well, but I am not all that dexterous with rapid reuse of the 1 direction (doing moves is fine, but I don't buffer crouchdashes with 1,1 often or very fast).

Me and a friend (who was trying to learn Akira) became obsessed with hand position when we first played VF4. We started to think that hand position was really vital to the harder stuff, and if we just saw how the top players did it we'd find SPODs and DLCs were much easier. Then I went over there and there was no secret - the sick players were just sick. Chibita just slams the buttons, man! I figured you'd barely see his hands move, so slight and precise his button pressing must have been. R-O-N-G. Wrong.

I think that command input precision and speed does depend on correct muscular and skeletal positioning, like with all activities, but that each individual will be slightly different. I think more important that hand position is to be able to relax your shoulders, since tension there will slow down any hand movement, regardless of position. Straight backs are the key!
