I would like to wish all Chinese Vfers a very Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year! /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

The Chinese New Year is based on the Chinese calendar dates back centuries before the Julian calendar that we use today. It measures time based on the astronomical observations of the movement of the sun, moon and stars.

Happy chinese new years. Last year was the year of the horse. What is this year? Gosh, I can't believe I don't remember. Hopefully the energy of this year will be a little calmer. I need it. Gotta get back to taichi full time. No more of this half a week type thing. Everyday just like brushing my teeth. That's what I am trying to do. Is anyone setting off fireworks?

I just remembered.. the year of the sheep! Yeah, should be a calm year!

Red Envelopes.. they were the best. But now it's actually nice to give my parents red envelopes. For all the money they provided for me.

That's a good gesture Summers. I too have been doing that. Bought them a house and handling their retirement plans so they can get a better investment.

    >>The Chinese New Year is based on the Chinese calendar dates back centuries before the Julian calendar that we use today. It measures time based on the astronomical observations of the movement of the sun, moon and stars.

(Just for the record) the (main?) calendar today is called the Gregorian. It is also - like the Chinese calendar - based on astronomical data.

Anyways - happy new year! /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

You are right Phil, the Julian calendar was used only till the end of the sixteenth century before it was revised to the present Gregorian Calendar.

Sorry for the confusion there and thanks for the correction dude.

    Cheers!
