I haven't played the latest contra, but I doubt they use the same code. I read a review on it that basically said it sucked and has no new innovation. Chicks love the shirt though!! /versus/images/icons/cool.gif

What kind of new innovation do you expect from a new Contra game? 3D movement? Open-ended gameplay? Psshhh.

If you were a fan of the old arcade, 8-bit, and 16-bit titles, I don't see how you could possibly be dissappointed with the new Contra. Classic run n' gun gameplay and insane difficulty, just the way it should be.

I'm actually looking forward to playing the new Contra even though it seems very similar to previous titles. I haven't played since the SNES version, so I might just get it for nostaligic reasons

Forget the Shattered Soldiers then, get Hardcorps for Genesis instead.

Hardcorps was ok on the genesis. I am going to get that again since I got another genesis a while back. Just got a few older classics like gunstar heroes and dynamite heddy.

    Alien Soldier = 0wnZ j00.

Too bad you'll have to pay an arm and a leg to get it... but it's worth it.

BTW, apparently the Konami code is still in Gradius IV on PS2.

Its in harmony of disonance as wel and I wouldnt be surprised if Shattered soldiers would have it too.

I remember that code i used it to play a Konami game called Probotector on the old NES, once the code was active it game you 30 lives instead of 2. It also worked for another Konami game called Life Force Salamander

It's in the PS2 contra, but the AABB start part is a little hacked up by PS2's lack of a and b buttons. BTW Shattered Soldier is ridiculously hard, maybe the hardest game ever, most game mags say nothing about level 6 and 7 (since none of the people that work for the mag can get there.... no offense to game mags, well actually nevermind) which are unlockable by beating 5 stages and killing (100%ing) everything in the level. The timing and concentration neccessary to play this game (for so long) is ridiculous. I like Contra: Hardcorps much better.... mulitple characters with different weapon choices, branching stages, it actually is far more advanced in the gameplay system than the PS2 Contra. And speaking of Gunstar Heroes, who's play Guardian Heroes..... great game that's obscure as well.

Try Alien Soldier on default (ie "Super Hard" difficulty). It's merciless. I love it.

The giant spider and horse and rider bosses are simply amazing. Treasure really knew the Megadrive completely inside out.

Hardcorps is indeed a far superior game, I might add. There's a reason why it retails for $120 here in JP.

Only difference I'm aware of is in the Japanese version, you can take 3 hits instead of 1 before you die.
