HD lag for 480i games (are there any workarounds?)

I don't know the subject too well at all...

But I've heard that there's often a slight (like two frame) lag in 480i games playing on HDTVs.

Wondering if someone could tell me the workarounds for this. Especially if I was playing a PS2 or PSX game on PS3 on an HDTV.

Is there even a workaround if I use HDMI cables?

I haven't heard of the issue when using a PS3 - only when using a PS2 on an HDTV.

I guess it will depend on the signal being sent from the PS3 when playing a PS1/2 game.

Regardless, I've seen the lag when trying to play a PS2 game on an HD DLP TV (using a PS2) - it's horrible - more like 20 frames.

I believe it's an issue with the TV trying to turn an SD signal into an HD signal.

Some HDTVs have a "Game Mode" that supposedly reduce the lag for non-progressive mode games.

Hmm... Thanks for that bit of info.

When I played Third Strike and Soul Calibur 3 on the PS3 outputting (via component on one, HDMI on another) on HD TVs, the lag was barely there. The game mostly felt normal but my parry timing was off. Same case with another friend who plays 3s a lot, a bit off on parrying. In Soul Calibur 3, I felt I had to do Guard Impacts early, but it was my first time playing SC3 so not sure if it was that.

Someone on SRK said the PS3 had a 2 frame delay because of how the PS3 handles/converts the signal and to get the frames looking alright.

That said, VF and Beatmania should make good tests /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
