Help! Chicago players wanted!

Hi, all! My name is Rob Hall, and I'm a representative of the Game Players Association of Columbia College. (GPACC for short.) We're all experienced gamers in the Chicago area who are looking for Chi-Town VF4 players who want to meet and play at our club or just in some sort of casual meeting.

Last time I was in Chicago I remember Namco owning all of it. It seemed all of the locals are into Soul Calibur 2. Good luck finding people interested in vf, because most of chi-town's veterans are gone or retired. If you do get a group together maybe we can meet up for a city team battle in the future. One of the better VF4 players in the US, Shota, lives in the Chicago area. The previous time I stayed over there (last summer) I was able to get a quality beatdown from his very evil Lau. He's semi-retired, though, and a bit hard to get ahold of...

So, Shota, if you're reading this, show yourself! The VFing community still loves you ^_-

If you're interested in a tourney, my buddy Tyson is setting up another E-series tournament, tentatively planned for late this year. VF4E's going to be among the games, so if you're a midwestern player, it should make for another fun VF stop. Come on down~!

it is true, most chi-crew is retired..
only ones I know that still find interest:
Shota - part timer ( i think he just needs new faces to fight against)
KageH - mainly SC2 , does vf part time..
Mad (me) - was out of it last year and am back into it now and its hard to get some comp. down here, thank god for CC guys..
Lee- busy working and on his MBA
Hgamer - just had a kid and married, much busier with his martial arts instruction.

I'm recruiting wherever i can,,
so hopefully we can conjure up some more people..

Yep, I'm still around!
My interest in VF is still there, but be warned that I play the game maybe once or twice every month, usually against CPU.

There are actually several SC2 players who also play VF. So if you guys want, we can schedule a weekend get together of some sort.
Problem though is that myself and other SC2 guys live in the suburb. We'd have to see who's willing to drive, etc.

Rob, I recall that you and your friends organize a Friday gaming event at Columbia. Do you still host the event? If so, would you please give us the details? I may drop by in one of these Fridays.

Heh, "retiring" gives me funny feeling, almost as if I was once a professinal VF player or something. Granted I play the game MUCH less. I think the last time I played was....when Shou and you came....at the beginning of the year?

You are somewhat right that Namco (or WCMaxi) owns Chicago now. At the same time though, I am grateful that I was able to meet many talented people through him. I really fantasize how great VF players they will make, considering their track records in other fighting games.

I just need to work a bit harder to make them more interested in VF.

Wow, it was only a year ago when we met last? I'm sure that this past year has been a roller-coaster ride for you!!

I'm not sure if I'm able to join the tournament, as I also work during weekends nowadays. I don't know if other games are hosted, but if enough Chicago gamers will go, I may tag along as well; it'd make a fun trip!

Well kids, the game is afoot. We slowly begin to convert to VF. For those of you that dont know me, my name is Tim, better known as BryanFury from my tekken days or Fury from the SC2 world. In any event, i am located across the street from Shota and welcome and players to contact me for some VF. Myself, WCMaxi, FetZ, Wyzt, XCTU, Everlast, are making the shift to VF.

Namco does own chicago, however, being the namco employee i am, im in the process of procuring a VF: evo machine to be placed at the Time-Out at the Randhurst Mall in the chicago suburbs. Hopefully i can meet all you vets and get my rear kicked.

Namco owns Chicago? Haha. Yeah, SC2 has been the focus here as of late, but I think that's all going to start dieing down real quick. After a few intense gatherings, I think a lot of the players could use a break from SC2. Hopefully VF will be given a sporting chance.

they still do gather every friday.
i've gone pretty much everyother friday and their crowd is small for vf (as it is everywhere in chicago), but they are enthused with it..
I've gotten there as early as 4 and stayed as late as 10, so those are the hours that they hang out...
I've actually been thinking of holding something at my house, but i can drive some guys out there to your place also.
My cousins are still practicing now,,
i mainly play 5 times a month, so i have to get my practice up...

I also would n't mind planning something with other midwesterners...

Well, i want to advance my game a little bit further before i switch off. Still need to understand a lot more and wanna play my akira against all the characters in the game.

However, if you wanna help me out with Lau, ill pick him up, heh.

I need a new stick now, it sticks even though i just bought it..
I'll ask if he wants to come again.. i think he enjoyed himself, but is just a bit shy..
If we're lucky and get more people, we will need to setup another station because switching from controllers to stick and configurations is a bit time consuming...

 

Are you guys doing this Cplumbia College get together thing tomorrow on 26th again? I work in downtown tomorrow and was thinking of stopping by for a couple hours, say 5 to 7.

Yes, i will be there tomorrow..
one suggestion, bring your own stick, they use controllers, so i'll bring my little stick /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif , but dont know if you'd like it..
As far as location:
the building i believe is 623 s. michigan..
you go in and immediately on your right are some elevators , don't worry security doesn't ask for anything, take elevator to 6th floor, and you'll hear the noise..
I'll have my cell on me, i believe you have the number , if not email me and i'll send it to you...
i'll get there around five o'clock.
if you want to park aruond the street , there is 6' oclock parking right on corner, so get there 10 min. before 6, but bring quarters (15 min, each) and they ticket between 6 and 8..

KageH, if you do come, GGXX guys may be in session now (they started school this week) and i hear a couple of them are really good..
they are playing SC2 also, but again with no sticks..

Wow. It's been a year since I moved out here and I haven't found ANYONE who was into this game...then I came here. I forgot I was even a member until my good friend and arch rival Akira_Zero told me to check here for some comp. If anyone can give me times, dates and places, I'll be there. Also, do any of you guys play Guilty Gear XX? I play a mean Millia and EX May!
