Help me to get good

As some of you know, I am trying to get back into VF but the time I can spend every day on the game is limited.
I intend to spend one hour a day practicing things in dojo, because I refuse to play online.

Here is how the community can help me and contribute to my (and others) getting better.

My request if the following: post your favorite set-up, regardless of the character. I will set the dummy to act accordingly to your instructions, and then try to find way to deal with your "ghost".

The benefits of this approach are twofold: I (and others) will get better, and you will have to reveal your favorite set-ups and will be forced to evolve.

I have spent ages on vanilla playing online and never getting really good. I want to focus on Akira, and learn how to deal with a variety of situations. everybody will benefit from sharing knowledge. and we can do this by ourselves, without having to put up with the crappy online.


So, I think I should go first, despite the fact that I am crap!

My favorite set up with Akira is when I have my opponent side-turned. people tend to freeze in side turned situations, which allows Akira to use his 6PGK guard break that gives +17 frames, and can lead to a nasty combo. I am not sure what else add to this situation: what happened if people crouch or attack from a side turned situation? my guard break would do little damage, I think. If I went for a 46P, I would catch them on counterattack, but not if they crouched. crouching seems to be the best option, but how fast can they crouch side-turned? I remeber a video of Akira when he did a 220 point combo on a side-turned opponent because he was trying to guard. how can I replicate that situation?

Is there no chance you can get a hi-speed connection? Some of the guys you met at Sega Cup are still very much on Xbl (and to a lesser extent, PSN) quite frequently, playing on great lines in like 4 or 5 slot rooms.
The way I see it, unless you live in London, or really close by, you've got no hope of regularly playing this game offline, unless you can spend a small fortune on petrol or train fares.
With the headsets, and chatbox here, some of the veteran players can even point out mid or post match where you're going wrong, although in all honesty, if you think VF is hard now (playing Akira), see what it's like trying Pai
