Anyone watch the TV series Heroes? I'm kinda digging it so far.

spoiler alert if you haven't seen this week's ep, S01E09

I was a bit confused about this week's ep when Peter was able to pop his broken limbs back together. I thought his special ability was flight, but he made a comment, almost jokingly(?), to Ando saying that he can absorb the special abilities of others.

If that's true, then it explains why his broken limbs could recover after being in contact with Claire. But, it feels like I missed the revelation of Peter's true ability? Or was it that moment with Ando?

    you missed that episode

1st obvious when he drew a stick figure picture of himseld flying/walking on air to his brother (his brother can fly not him). He took the power of the artist..i think that was 1st or 2nd episode

    Pay attention next time /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I haven't yet seen this episode but Peter's true power has always appeared to be that of being able to absorb or mimic the powers of others.

He could only fly when his brother was near and he was able to scrawl a drawing that predicted an event after encountering "mr. issac".

Heroes is an interesting series. If I hadn't been given each episode I probably wouldn't have watched it as I really didn't care for the pilot. I completely dug Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura and that was the only reason I kept going.

I do like the fact that they appear to have a story to tell with a definite beginning and end (unlike Lost which appears to have zero point or potential anymore) but the writing and characterization seems wildly uneven. As long as they keep Hiro in it, I'll keep watching. Crazy to think that he didn't exist in the early draft and was only added on suggestion from Kring's wife.

Ah, well I certainly didn't miss any episodes, but I guess I wasn't paying enough attention /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif especially since you reminded me of the scene with Isaac.

GE, what's with the fascination with Masi Oka? Has he been in other stuff that you liked, or you just like his performance as Hiro? Personally, I found the character to be annoying and a little too over the top for a Japanese stereotype, but once I saw that scene with him and Peter in the train when time stood still, all was forgiven and I was like WOW! He levelled up in cool points for me.

And like you, I wouldn't have gone out of my way initially to watch the series. It was only after a friend insisted I watch it, that I finally got hooked, and now I grab the torrent as soon as its out every week.

I watch both! And Lost, and Prison Break.

I echo GE's sentiments with the direction (or lack of) that Lost has taken recently. I think I've had a lifetime's worth of flashbacks in that series.

Speaking of blasts from the past, the last ep of BSG seemed kind of wasteful. Why can't they conduct political/social commentary as well as progress "the story" at the same time?

My thoughts exactly. He is the reason to watch the show hands down.

Has anyone read Hiro's Blog? It's the character's official blog. He even updates and responds to comments more than once a week. Very cool indeed.

Actually after the end of the last episode and reading this comic, Nikki has caught my interest as well and I'm waiting to see more of her story.

He absorbed power. Now, what is the blond mother's power? That she is a psychopath? I don't quite get it.

I only just started watching BSG this weekend (true story). Very cool show and I was very quickly hooked in, something I didn't expect.

Myke, I liked Masi in Scrubs and Gilmore Girls (yes yes, I watch Gilmore Girls) but really...he added a comic sensibility that the show was lacking. Over the top, absolutely but otherwise the show would become grim without any redeming features.

Hiro represents (to me) the expression of a hero without clear thought. The comic book ideal of high adventure and image. When he discovers that he is returning back in time speaking english, embroiled in his new quest the only thing he is concerned with is the fact that his future self was carrying a sword. Although he doesn't understand it yet his future self couldn't be more different from his present time self and it is clear that although the cheerleader is the lynchpin to survival it is Hiro that will go through the biggest (heroic) journey. His appearance in the NY subway is fantastic.

Anyway, my one hope is that Kring tells this story in a season and then pulls up the tent stakes. The NA television model kills good ideas by keeping them running long past relevance.

I think that in "spychopath mode" she has super strength or is atleast pretty strong. She sent hubby flying some good.

Yeah I love this show. Anyone that has seen my appartement can attest that I'm a fan of things "super hero" /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Cool...I was (still to a bit) torn if she has a dopplerganger that comes out or if she can just turn into uber nutjob.

She definitely has super strength. In the comic I linked some posts back she tore off a safe door with one hand.

Ok I may need to correct myself.

Jessica (psycho half) is hot mom's dead sister. We know that it's Jessica that has enhanced strength. I'm wondering if hot mom has any abilities, and if it's connected to her dead sister being her split personality.

Or the preview commercial is purposely leading me astray...

Before the show get to it I'm guessing Sylar's power is eating others brains to gain their power.

hmm, since the earlier episodes were showing the brain-less victims of sylar, you had to assume he was doing something to their brain. Eating it though? That's a bit of a stretch /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Although they didn't explictly show what he does with the brains, I'm guessing from this last episode that he just has the ability to understand how stuff works, and through that can gain the victim's special ability.

    hey, guy's gotta eat.

Actually, one of the mystical elements of caniballism was that of eating your enemy to gain his/her distinctive power. This wouldn't be unlike that.

although, I hold out hope that as wackadoo as Sylar appears to be he doesn't make the jump from "watchmaker's son" to "mutant zombie" in such a short span of time as we've been presented.

I'm more interested in the show's notion of how time works.
