1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. Hi, folks.
I just happened to find this site.
I'm kind of surprised and, at the same time, happy to see many ppl overseas are exited about VF.

If you have any questions about VF, I'm willing to answer as long as I can, my English is poor, tho. :)

What is VF like in Japan at the moment? Who are the best players? Is VF4 popular?
    Thank you

    Welcome,
Please correct us if we have any twisted understandings about the current VF4 till it comes abroad.
    Thanks.

You might know this already but newer version, that is version B, has just come out.
Many changes and some new arts have been added.
So we're all seeking for better combinations and way to fight.

Jou (Jackey), Chibita ( Lion), Haniwa (Vanessa), Kyasao (Kage), Kenko Land(Shun) are one of the best players in here.

    Thanks Yassa.
Are there any good Akira players? :)

If you had to rank the characters today, how would you rank them?

    Tier 1?
    Tier 2?
    Tier 3?

    Etc. Thanks for your input.

Also, do you actively read Japanese forums? How would you compare this forum (from what you can tell so far) to the tyipcal Japanese message board?

Hi, thanks for registering on this forum, and for posting a quick update on the Japanese scene! =)

Ah... Jou would be the Jacky player in the Ikebukuro GIGO movie clips... is Haniwa the Vanessa player in the vf---.wmv clips? Haven't seen clips of VF4 Chibita or Kenko Land yet, though. If you have any good links to new movie clips (especially ver.B), please share them with us!

    yer welcom :)

Maeda Juzo is one of the top Akira players.
But his main character in VF4 is Jefry.

In version A, Akira is hard to keep winning compared to other ones and Akira players could not rank high.

However, Akira has been tremendously powered up in ver.B!
For example, you can try good combo after you hit f,f,f+p.

BTW, I am not so good at VF4 :-(

    Excellent! Thanks again :)
However, it is a shame DLC seems to be rubbish now :(
How much damage does Akira Special #3 do?

Maedo Juzo, eh? Hopefully we'll hear/see a bit more about him as time progresses.

Yeah, I read about Akira being powered up significantly in ver.B with the command simplifications, f,f,f+P normal float, and new moves. I'm especially looking forward to the new moves... 8 years of dashing elbows gets a little stale, don't you think? /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

The last few times I played VF4test (we don't have the final version in the U.S. yet), I was getting really frustrated with Akira... Jason Cha and I talked about this over dinner yesterday, and agreed that the skill-to-reward ratio for Akira in VF4test was pretty damned low (utilizing every trick in the book, and executing the three 3-hit combos decently, still barely gives you an advantage over average or above average players who use other characters).

Hopefully Akira is powered up *just enough* in ver.B, but not overpowered with the new tweaks... only time will tell I guess.

Akira Special #3 doesn't do a whole lot... I'd say 50 points damage or thereabouts? Definitely less than the DLC (which itself doesn't seem to be as damaging a float followup as P ~ d+P ~ DoublePalm or P ~ b,f+P ~ DoublePalm nowadays...)

Not when you have other cool moves, such as SPoD, DLC, Yoho, Break guard and Bodycheck/E-Bodycheck in your kitbag ;)

    ...Though I haven't been playing for 8 years i guess....hehe.

SPoD... I liked it better when this was a throw move a la VF2, but that's a personal preference.
DLC... toned down in VF4test. The final bodycheck in this hit string does pitiful damage in a float. Still looks nice though.
Yoho... slow execution + throw counterable in a VF4 world where most moves have shortened recovery times means this move has an especially bad risk/reward ratio.
f+P+G break guard... only b,f+P guaranteed (and only in closed stance)
d+P+G break guard... nothing guaranteed as a followup
Bodycheck... only as a float followup or the occasional surprise move in combination with a dodge, but risky otherwise

VF4test Akira is all P, d+P, d+K, throw, u/d,n+P+K+G, df+P+K, shoulderram, singlepalm, the occasional doublepalm, the buffered crouch and buffered run variants, and gobs and gobs of DE and SDE.

    /me can't wait for ver.B!

Lemme answer to some questions in one reply.

    To Ice-9

    Total winning record
    Rank / Char / Player / # of Winning
    1 Wolf (Macho wolf) 2401
    2 Lei Fei (Don) 2092
    3 Kage (Hetappi Kage)
    4 Jackey (J) 1996
    5 Shun (Dragon Jijii) 1946

    Player ranking
    1 Haniwa
    2 HSD
    3 Kyasao
    4 Thomas Okada
    5 Chicken Jackey

But this result dosent reflect the change of ver B well as not so many days have passed since it was released.

Yes, I do check Japanese forums everyday.
What I felt first was that how come you guys know well about this game.
I simply surprised to find the latest combos have already been introduced in other threds!

    To FeixaQ
Go to the URL below and get more movies!
    Have fun :)
(sorry no Chibita nor Kenko Land movie available. Vannessa in the movie is not Haniwa)

Regarding Akira Special #3, its damage is not so high as other guys say. Say 40 to 50.
But this time Akira has more chances of that combo!
    Especially after using new moves.

    yassa hokku,

What's the difference between total winning record and player ranking? Is total winning record just how many games you have won, whereas player ranking takes into account win/loss ratios, the quality of opponents, etc? In that case, player ranking would probably be a better indicator of which players are truly good vs those that just play a lot(?).

Kyasao at #3. Hooray for Kage players! (At SVGL, I'm pretty much the sole regular Kage player now *sigh*). Also, Haniwa's Vanessa is #1 in player ranking? Whoa... (/me starts to look over Vanessa's 10 page movelist /versus/images/icons/smile.gif)

    #5 - Chicken Jackey
LOL! Is that his actual nickname?

Re: combos. Yeah, a couple of us check Daily VF4, VF4 Overweight and a couple other websites daily to find out the latest and greatest combos...

Re: movies. Thanks for the links. Guess I've got all the clips for now /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Edit: Do you have the URL for the website where you can view the VF.net rankings in Japan? I can't seem to find it...

Welcome Yassa Hokku. I have a question:

How popular is Sarah Bryant in VF4 and Japan in general? Do VF players consider her a strong character in VF4 or is she mainly used by people with no talent.

    Sincerely,

    Adio.

    Hello yassa hokku-san,

I am also a Japanese living in Tokyo. I often to go to Shinjuku.
I'm a ri-man player and in my age, I can not find friends who
play VF4. If you also come to Shinjuku, why dont we get togather? I am a Lei player and my RN is Tot. I am still 2 kyu and my winning rate is only 40% :( What is your RN?

Well, I dont see many Akira players around. So it seems with
ver.B, lots of will start playing Akira.

I heard Don (Lei player) plays in nishisupo. I have to go there
to see how he plays. I am suprised to see he got a 2nd in the
winning record. He is the leader of team Shourinji.

    Hey Yassa

Just wondering if Sportland Game center is still the place to go and play VF4 in Tokyo?
