Although last year wasn't really all that. 50 was a (overhyped) commercial success and his album wasn't that bad but he went soft as his popularity grew. And now he's on that bling shit, with ''I'll teach you how to stunt''.

    PS
    To Shadowdean :
The Black album was good man, not his best album, but definilty not as bad as you made it sound awhile back.

I'll have to check it out. One that surprised me was the new Memphis Bleek album, I never really liked his previous stuff but this time he did good, totally underhyped. Other than that, I hope Kanye West doesn't disappoint with his album, right now that's the only one I'm looking forward to.

The Owners was good, not great. I think Sevens travel in almost all respects is better...
Canibus Rip the Jacker is Horrlbe for one reason - he is off beat on EVERY song. He laid the lyrics and the beat was done later to them and this album is a perfect example of why that NEVER, ever, ever works. I don't give a shit how tight your lyrics are (Canibus is one of the best lyracists ever) if they are not on beat - they are wack. Period.
    Hrmmm...My top 10 albums...
    1) Aesop Rock - Bazooka Tooth
    2) Atmosphere - Sevens Travels
    3) KRS 1 - Kristyles
    4) Killah Priest - Black August
    5) J-Live - all of the above (I have noi dea if this was a 02 or 03 release or whatever...but it fucking rocks)
    6) Royce Da 5'9 - Detroit rock city - Holy crap, I rarely say this - but King of Kings is one of my all time favorite story tracks.
Hrmmm, I Don't think enough quality hip hop was released to make a top 10 albums

On 50 cents - listen to "how to rob an industry nigga"...he may make a lot of whack songs now, but he is tight.

It's quite easy to timecompress / expand lyrics so they are on beat with software so if they're off beat it's probably just cause some engineer was lazy / needs to get fired or it was intended so. Note; haven't heard the tracks etc myself (but will) though (I'm a techno head / dnb'er mainly but enjoy all kinds of music).

Btw; I enjoy these kinds of threads cause it's easy to find tracks that are good after. The problem with not dedicating yourself to one music style is normally that you don't find the really good things unless you're really deep into the genre and get thru waves of pop etc prior to that. All music is good, aslong as it's well done, not to commercial and you're used to listening to it.

Stoupe's beats alone make Rip the Jacker a great album. The second beat on Poet Lauriet 2 gives me chills every time. I'm just a really big GangStarr head so they have to really suck ass for me to not love em. Aesop Rock's been slowly falling off since Float.

    Float = underground classic
    Labor Days = pretty good
    Nightlight EP = pretty boring
    Bazooka = Bleh!

I haven't heard the Atmosphere joint but if it's anything like God Loves Ugly, I'm staying away.

All of the Above was '02

The beats? Are you on crack when you listened to it? The beats are HORRIBLE, they sound like something I could do in 10 minutes using fruity loops.
How in the hell can you call labors days just good and what album did you listen too to call Bazooka Tooth Bleh...his metaphores and artistry continue to expand themselves. Each album is different from the last anc covers new lyrical ground.
Atmosphere does so in the same way...but if it is just a style preferance, can't do anything bout that.

Hey hey hey, take it easy!

    1. Since you hate Rip the Jacker so much, it's likely you only listened to it a few times. Give it another spin and pay attention to just the beats. Not all of them are great but a lot of them are gems. Stoupe is thee shit. I dare you to make "Levitibus," "Showtime at the Gallows," and the second beat on "Poet Laureate II" with Fruity Loops.

    2. Aesop Rock's flow and voice have gotten worse and worse since Float. Lyricism and artistic value are great but if your flow is shit and I can't stand to hear your voice, you're not a great rapper.

    3. Slug is fine, it's Ant's inconsistent production that made God Loves Ugly boring.

Dude, I can almost rhyme all of canibuses rhymes back to the beats they were recorded on. Sorry, the album is wack. He is off beat. Its wack. Period. The lyrical content may be good (and its nothing compared to his older stuff, or even Mic Club - which is amazing). It is just a bad fucking album with worse beats.
I happen to always be up in the air on aesops delivery, but in the end I think it works for his abstract lyrics. At least his stuff is on beat /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Lol, I can't believe ppl still listen to Canibitch ! He fell off a LONG time ago. Ever since LL raped his ass it's been downhill. Decent lyricist but nothing special.

  19. Shadowdean

Oh man, you can't be serious - even eminem said "if your not feeling Canibus, you don't like hip hop." He is one of the most amazing lyracists ever. LL won one round but canibus ripped the shit out of L.

  20. ONISTOMPA

    ONISTOMPA Well-Known Member

Dean plz tell me you're joking ? Canibus ripped the shit out of LL !!? LL is still in the rap game tho, while Canibitch is selling cd's out the trunk of his whip in front of the barber shop. Big L is one of the best lyricists ever, Biggie, Rakim, Eminem... Those are lyricists.

Canibitch is decent but nothing ''amazing''. And speaking of Em, didn't he rape Canibitch too ? And even if he did say that "if your not feeling Canibus, you don't like hip hop." Since when was Em the ambassador of hip hop ?
