How do you feel about the new fighting engines?

I heard that in evo for ps2 there will be two optional fighting engines a la Fighters Mega Mix. And do you think this is a nice addition, or something that will take away the integrity of the original game? I think some will actually find it more fun with its increased speed. They should not include alternate fighting engine tweaks. And to tell you the truth, I think it is out of place and I don't want people taking that part of the game too seriously. Yes, I am selfish.

Are you talking about the hyper mode and the VF1 mode?

I think that's more for novelty/nostalgia purpose. I don't have Evo so I don't know if you start with it, but I think it's a bonus that you unlock.

I don't think it will distract from the VF Evo experience. The "regular" engine is the reason why we play VF in the first place, so I think most people will probably still play the regular Evo. If you don't like it, just don't play those modes.

I personally probably won't like the hyper mode too much. It's too similar to those frantic 2D fighters like GG that I've come to dislike. (Probably because I don't have the dexterity to do all those crazy combos /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) Although I think it'll be cool once in a while to play "VF1 Evo," as someone coined it a while ago, to re-live the days of high-flying jump kicks and no TRs...

    Just my 2 cents

Thats pretty much how I feel Garian. Even though they are just extras and the original engine is still there, it makes me feel uneasy.

Evo makes me a little nervous altogether.
First with the new chars, they seem so Tekken like.

    Second, the new hyper mode.

Third, being an update- of course enhancing the gameplay, balance, and graphics is important but. There is no end to updates they could do, its impossible to make the 100% balanced and they would always throw on 2 new chars every year (not to mention ones that don't seem to fit in). They could do this all the way up to VF 5 in years to come.

I really hope those 3 things do not go any further. I've said it before, but those things remind a lot of the SF series. Personally I think the SF series got rather lame.

SF2, then SF2 turbo, SF2 Alpha, SF2 turbo: THE NEW CHALLANGERS /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, Super SF2, Sega(Genesis) SF2, and about twenty others. Including a puzzle game (like tetris) with SF characters......

The VF1 mode is actually a positive, because my friends and I got a huge kick out of the exhibition matches that featured this at KSII, at the local air port, there is a VF1 and 3 machine. It would be nice to have a VF1 style game to fool around with my friends occasionaly on.

But as far as VF spin offs and add ons, etc. Evolution is probably the only one you will see for a while, that requires such expendatures. I remember the day that a local arcade (in Japan) was stripping apart several Naomi 2 cabinets and putting not only the VF Evo disc and parts, but flushing out old parts too, (some VF cabinets take a fucking beating for like hours on end).

The amount of money for a VF4 arcade machine with VF.Net was pretty costly to run for some arcades, but when Evo came out, the cost was totally worth it.

I have seen posts of people claiming that VF Evo, is how VF4 should have been. While to some extent that is true, Sega and AM2 had ample time to plan VF Evo, off of the data they collected off of VF4.

What people don't realize is that they track alot of things, like for instance Sega said that one of the most common wolf moves was /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif the f+k Knee!!

The same knee which got "nerfed" in Evo, and all due to the facts that Sega knew. Same with the soundtrack, VF4's was not that bad, but sucked too listen to more than ten times. The VF Evo music is actually damn good, and fits each level nicely, and can be really cool when people play to the rythm of the song within the actual fight of the match.

And the biggest thing that Sega did with Evo, was Brad and Goh/ and the massive amounts of items/icons/changing name whenever/ and all the frivilous character options.

It is nice to see Sega (milking a cash cow) improving one of their better games, but it is not likely it will become a trend.

Hopefully the 5th VF, with VF.Net will have downloadable items and shit like that, eliminating the need to buy new Naomi discs, and Evo characters cards (the new cards having to be bought is probably the biggst complaint, but it was fair, because it gave everyone an even start, especially those who wanted to use Goh and Brad).

I don't know the exact details of the VF 1 mode. Would anyone please inform me?

Hyper Action Battle is good for a laugh, and a cute addition to evo IMO.

There is no VF1 mode. You can select VF1 models and/or use one of the stages from VF1. It's not a "mode" you select. All it is is just both players picking VF1 models and fighting on the VF1 stage.

BTW for those of you who don't have evo already. Don't worry too much about hyper action battle. It's not sped up, it's just zero recovery time after moves. Lots of people slagged off VF4(ps2) for lack of 'unlockables', so it appears AM2 stuck HAB in for the fun factor. It's just a nice extra to have. I still play the normal version 99.99% of the time.

empnova : Huh? What was all that about?

if you grab the clips from ign, you'll see that there is in fact a vf1 "mode" in the upcoming USA port... I dunno what the conditions are to activate it or if it's just a menu option, but actual gameplay mechanics are changed: big jumps and takeoff kicks are possible again, attacks do not stagger or crumple (they knock down, even simple f+P elbows) and I noticed jacky got an old fashioned sidekick animation. Probably no TRing or QRing is possible.

I'm looking forward to fooling around with this. If nothing else, I bet there's some pretty goofy combo potential when you're not allowed to TR.
