Vanessa doesnt suck, the reason a character in a game may suck, is because the user cannot bring the characters full potential out, so dont blame vanessa, just train to be better at her, saying she sucks will get you nowhere, if you cant or dont wannna take the time to try learn the fullest capabilities of a character then dont say the character sucks, its discouraging to the people in this site that wanna try use her. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

    God, you are retarded.
You're like someone who decides "anime sucks!" after only seeing what's being shown on the Cartoon Network, while not bothering to go down to the video store and check the thousands of other titles there.
I've got some incredible videos of Japanese and Korean Vanes annhilating strong competition. There's plenty of Shun vids such as that, too.
And I suppose Taka was worthless in VF3 as well?

Every VF4 chara has their purpose. Vane was a very unorthodox addition, but she's found her niche among her fans and works very well for those who can master the patience to truly understand her.

Yes Zero is right, you ARE a retard .

Oh and damn do I miss Taka, cant we exchange two Tekken rejecys for 1 Taka ?

Im sorry mister Suzuki but im not happy by the looks of these two new fighters, I wanna exchange them for that sumo dude who makes young French dudes his bitch .

I can guarantee that the players you've seen (and yourself) know jack and shit about Vane. That's why they're not dominating with her.
Your knowledge of vf4 has to questioned further when you can actually seriously think and say that Shun sucks.
    Get a clue.

"If you want mindless, button mashing, 50 hit combos then go with tekken"

You must have played a different version of Tekken from the rest of the world (the version that doesn't actually exist)

Did you actually type this stupidness out with sincerity? You clown.

Well, Ryo, Virtua Fighter 4 was made to have an balanced roster of fighters. Each fighter has their strenghts and weaknesses but one fighter can't overly dominate another. Vanessa may not be as good as some of the other fighters but she is not "rubbish". I don't need your opinions about me, but I'm sorry for being so harsh.

P.S. - If the comment is not directed towards you than don't speak like it is.

not to be rude ryo, but i have to agree with higking about tekken, most of it is just plain unreal, you dont see much of that in VF4, its more about ingenuity, which i'm afraid tekken lacks, dont get me wrong i'm an established tekken player as well, but it just doesnt have the edge VF has

I've seen some high level Vanessa's on videos, but I've seen more in real life. She's the 2nd hardest character to learn, according to some books. She's got (IMHO) two fantastic sabaki's, which when used PROPERLY, can change a match. (Drop that sabaki Elbow on a low crescent rise... see how far the guy gets).

There's one guy called Shark Hunter, on the Yoga Smokers team (they're 6th in the nation). His vanessa is amazing - Ken-oh.

So on that note... your friends w/ Vanessa are likely not that hot. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

    Re: Tard

The difference between the characters isn't how 'good' they are, it's how easy they are to use. Lau and Shun Di both can dish out enormous damage in one float or after one throw, but Lau's combos require less thinking and dexterity. That doesn't make lau cheap or shun di worthless. The balance is fine, you'd know that if you played at a fairly competent level.

Watching movies doesn't put you there. Beating up the local mall scrubs won't either. You need to love the series and play against other people who do for hours and hours before you're even half qualified to make a comment about the character balance. Your local crew might not have a single good shun player and you arrive at the conclusion shun di sucks - then you play shu (one of Chibita's crew, a shun specialist) and lose 30 times in a row. Why don't you see movies of Shu or great jeff/aoi/lei players? You can, try amact instead of daioh. Or try one of the two movie servers, feixaq's and my own. You see a ton of jacky, akira, and kage on daioh because daioh follows well known players in Japan like Neotower(Jacky), Mukky(Akira), and Kyasao(Kage).

I guess I just wasted a lot of lines to say you're a talking-out-of-your-ass troll.
VF has never been a game where any character is weak or hopeless. Give me any character in VF2/3/4 and decent players can tell you how they can knock off 24-45% of your life for one mistake. The "I have never seen it, so it must not be possible" shit isn't gonna convince anybody. Nor does calling your local competition "good", it's all relative.

Kyasao's Shun is pretty vicious as well. I did manage to get one round on him though. :)

He is way weak when compared to Ver. B, but he's still got some tricky stuff. There are more Shun's popping up these days, but disappeared, as they've had to pretty much find a totally new strategy to get anywhere. On that note, I'm pissed off, as I lost my damn Shun access card!!!

Its safe to say that the skill of the player is more important than the character of choice.

Supposed powerhouses such as Akira, Jacky and Lau may generally win more matches on final score, but generally they will lose a few. Very rarely will they sweep all rounds in a match. Until that happens with high frequency then there is definately a balance problem.

Even so... for most of us poor SOBs in the Western world its a total non-factor. It still requires a very high level of skill to use 'powerhouse' characters to dominate too such an extent.

Attributes/Skills that are more important to a great player are:

    Physical dexterity and coordination
    Composure
    Tactics
    Defense
    Experience/Knowledge of character
    Talent

Without the above the choice of character is not going to help you a great deal. IMO when I can go into detail about another characters supposed strengths and imbalance its sometimes better to analyse the situation from the other perspective. For example if I lose to a particular strategy or set of moves its becuase of my ineptitude at reacting or countering.

Definately some characters are easier to become more effective but personality plays a big part in character effectiveness. Its very difficult to emulate a particular playing style. We all say "I want to become as good as Chibita or another of the Tetsujins etc", we could watch everyone game he plays, study all of Lion's moves etc but it would be very difficult to reach his level of skill.

I for one use Lei Fei and I'd say I'm pretty familiar with his execution and offense gameplay. When I lose it'll generally be superior tactics or defense. I understand his strengths and weaknesses to an extent.

In a nutshell, Lei Fei is not too great up close though he does have answers to most options up close ie: low punch, elbow, dodge attack, throw. As do all the other characters.

    Linearity:
Yes Lei Fei's better moves are linear. This is good and bad, bad because he can be dodged thus his better moves are don't seem too great, but good because you can make the opponent dodge for you to execute anti dodge tactics.

    etc etc.

From my point of view you still need a significant mastery of the game to use a "powerhouse" to totally dominate all other characters.

Anyone ever use Vanessa? I mean, come on, she totally sucks!

I'm High King with Vanessa. She's definitely my favourite. After a lifetime with Pai I switched to V and not coming back. I'd love to test her in vs. mode, though. No arcades with VF4 over here and my friends they all suck /versus/images/icons/mad.gif

Lots of blind people here. Its like, 'VF4 is my life, if you dare criticise a single character then I will get upset'.

I'm tired of this 'its not that the character sux its how you use them' BS. This argument holds no weight, do you think its a coincidence that there are a severe lack of top vanessa or shun players out there? Surely people don't all just use Akira, Kage and Jackey because they look cool, surely their must be another reason!

Yeah its because van/shun etc suck. Vanessa is considered 'expert' character, why? Is it because she has 2 stances? Wow, 2 stances, I bet that must get confusing. She is easy to learn. Shun is hard but only because he's so ineffective, whats the point learning a retarded character when some amateur can select akira and dash elbow spam their way to victory against a shun expert. As for Akira, he's only considered hard to learn because of the stupid timing required on some of his moves, but any half decent akira player could kick the crap out of a vanessa 'expert'.

Yeah VF4 is pinnacle of character balance... my arse

Dude -- there's good Vanessa's all over the place. You need to broaden your sample. I just saw a 10-dan Vanessa a couple of hours ago.

And as for me losing my Shun card... well, it turned up, thank god (friend had it). Now, I've got my fingers crossed for my Aoi card (same thing -- different place). I just got her up to 7-dan as well!!!!!!

How are we blind compared to some n00b who comes in and thinks they know everything regarding the series?
VF4 is a part of our lives, we love the game, and to see someone spouting ill-informed BS like it's the word of Heaven itself, and refusing to admit their wrongness, is infuriating, especially when you consider other people who might be interested in learning the game may take your crap seriously.
If you don't like the attitude you can (do the community a huge favor and) leave.
