How long does guard take to execute?

I always assumed Guard took 8 frames to execute but I was wondering why, for example, Lau's [P][P][P] string is guaranteed when [P][P] leaves him at a -6 frame disadvantage and the third punch of [P][P][P] takes another 10 frames to execute. Wouldn't this be a total giving 16 versus 8 for the opponent to guard. Somebody please correct me here. Thanks.

    Guard is instant. 0 frames.

Using strings to make an example is different than using seperate moves back-to-back. Lau's [P][P] is -6 IF HE STOPS. If he continues with the string then the recovery of the 2nd [P] is completely cancelled into the 3rd [P]. Every string works like this. Strings are garunteed because the hit stun of of every hit is greater or the same as the excecution of the next hit, AND the recovery is canceled (so there is no -6 or whatever in there if the string keeps going).

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. But now isn't there guaranteed and non-guaranteed strings > Ex. [P][P][P][K]? I guess I'll have to check out which are guaranteed and which aren't.

lol I knew you were going to ask that.

All that means is that the hitstun of the third [P] is not enough for the [K] to hit. The recovery is canceled just like any other hit of a string, but the hitstun doesn't last long enough or the next move is too slow. Take your pick since they both equate to the same thing.

[P][P][P][K] get used as an alternative to [P][P][P] when you plays a lot. You will try to break your chained move to continue with different attack (work specialy for characters like Jacky with a good number of alternative), you use the last [K] when your opponent think you will stop again after [P][P][P]. You use such thing against players. Computer is not expecting anything and only react at first occasion to hit you.

Instant = yes; 0 frames = no. Nothing is zero frames - you can't really put guard in terms of animation. Unless you'd want to say stuff like 0.9 frames, which is bullshit.
