I am just curious, as my Xbox did so a week ago.

Post ITT if you have had RRoD(s), and 360 failure rate statistics. Also if you are so inclined, post about console failures in general.

I have had one so far. Three rings. I made a deal with one of my friends that if he could fix it, he could have it. Works great.

Only console I've ever had die on me is my 360. It has happened twice in my memory. It hasn't happened since they supposedly started using those new chips rumored a long time ago. Though I'm really pissed at my Wii because that console refuses to connect online.

I had my first Xbox for years but now I went through at least 2 more Xboxs after that. I am on my 4th Xbox so far.

maybe i'm lucky, but I bought my original Xbox360 on day 1, November 22, 2005 and I have never experienced an RRoD. *goes and knocks on wood* The closest thing I got to an RRod was MS banning the second generation one (Black) I picked up because it was modded.

Really based on my own experience it's hard to believe people's system RRoD so often. Do you guys keep your system well ventilated? Also while it can be done I don't recommend using a 360 standing upright... flat the way to go

I stopped counting after the fifth time I got RRoD, I keep my system well ventilated and it's never upright so no idea why i've had it so often. Maybe just overuse or simple bad luck [IMG]

Also i've had disc drive failures a good few times, the console would think games were DVD's and refuse to play anything.

i bought my 360 in late 08. it's an arcade jasper chipset, and has yet to red ring. it did once scratch my copy of vf5, and it sometimes makes a weird grinding noise when the disc stops getting read but is still spinning, but no major problems yet.

the only other consoles that have failed me have been my launch dreamcast (laser gets stuck, it'll work if i move it around a bit, but it proves to be unreliable) and a used ps2 fat i got in 07 (though it was actually my fault, as i wired my stick incorrectly and fried the controller port, lol). and i guess sort of my xbox 180, although all i had to do was solder to a different memory cache on the board. oh, and the disc drive doesn't open unless there's a disc in it, but no biggie.

Like Rodney, I bought mine on day one of 360 launch, I'd say it was used lightly. Finally RRoD'd last spring, just as I was getting back into vf5 online, haven't gotten it fixed.

Although last night I did play Evo with a friend on his PS2, first time since probably 2006-7, so fun! now I just want a PS2

I bought mine exactly when VF5 was released for the 360 in Europe. It was the 360 Arcade with HDMI output. It worked wonderfully until I was in Germany during early 2009. I used the towel trick on numerous occasions, which would make it last another ten hours each. After 20 goes, the towel trick would no longer suffice. Had it sent in for repair after that and it works since then. Gave it away to a friend due to the fact that I purchased a slim version last year.

I purchased an Elite in November 2007.

In December 2010 I experience some red rings of sorts -- it was an E74 error. Sent it in and received a free replacement within 2 working weeks.

Twice. First time while was while playing VF5 online against a Vanessa (yeah, I know, I remember the most bizarre things), ironically after I'd told a friend on the bus home that I'd never had an RRoD when we were discussing consoles and he said he'd never get a 360 because of it. Second time was some random period in time that doesn't have any special meaning for me, aside from the fact that it was 3 years after the date I bought it.

Also, in both cases I had a replacement 360 for free within two weeks, so I can't complain too much.

As for other console failures, only my Dreamcasts keep dying on me. I've had about 6 so far.

    360 has died twice.

    PS3 has died once.

PS3 died a month after I got it. Never bothered getting a new one 'cause I had already played MGS4.

The proplem comes from led free tin, it also affects 3D-cards.

If your hardware gets hot enough, then it could ruin solder points in it.

You can fix some of the failing 3D-cards with hot air blower,
it may sound stupid put it really works sometimes. I just tested it into
broken nvidia 8800GTS 512MB, and it worked after that gadget.

(i would not use oven, there is over 100 poisonous chemicals used in
computer parts and electronics. Someone would want to make biscuits after all)

Is it worth to save environment with led free led?
When a company has to make 3 xbox360 instead of one?
Moving them around also makes CO2.

Proplem is not in led added tin, i think its peoples attitudes and recycling.
If every part of electronicks would be recycled properly,
you would not have to worry about led free tin.

Military uses Depleted uranium bullets in tanks sometimes.
And MSI advertises that some of their product line uses
    military grade parts.

I hope that my new 3D-card has
Led in its tin, not Depleted uranium.

My first 360 first stopped reading discs, repaired, then rrod'ed. My second one still going so far.

My Japanese launch DC died a few years ago, but DC's these days are a fiver or so anyway...I got my current DC in japan for 500 yen from hard-off.

I'm about 2 months out of my 3 year RRoD warranty. After some back and forth with support online and on the phone they aren't budging. $100 to "repair" out of warranty. Ugh.

SONY wants $205 between repair costs and shipping for just one PS3 that is out of warranty. And that is before they even diagnose what is wrong with the non-working PS3. I have two launch PS3s, one of them the software backwards compatible model, the other one with the emotion engine in it, both are completely useless. They still power on but nothing else works, the USB ports aren't even powered (they won't charge a controller), no video or audio signals either.

Since my PS3s died I've probably spent over $800 on 360 games and controllers and XBL titles that I wouldn't have bought had SONY given me a reasonable price to repair my PS3 consoles. But $205 to repair a system that SONY said would last ten years is pathetic. Here's my favorite quote from Kaz Hirai:

"I think that we are offering a very good value for the consumers. We look at our products having a 10-year life cycle, which we've proven with the PlayStation. Therefore, the PlayStation 3 is going to be a console that's going to be with you again for 10 years. We're not going to ask the consumers to suddenly buy another PlayStation console in five years time, and basically have their investment go by the wayside. So for all those reasons, I think at $599 we're offering a very good value to the consumers."

That would be a nice quote if SONY would let you purchase a ten year warranty. I still have launch PS1 and PS2 models that work as if they are brand new.
