How they should go about VF6 (imo)

With everyone speculating on what's next for VF I wanted to share something that's been on my mind for a while, how they should present the next VF title.

I think they should play on the whole "Virtua" name, set the game in the early 90's and have the look and sounds be influenced from that era. The intro and UI should "feel" of that era along with the music and sound effects. Even the game story itself should be set in that period.

Have a Quest mode (or similar) where you battle players in arcades form friendships and rivals, gain sponsorships and battle in teams. Qualify for EVO styled championship events with pools and brackets, make it all about the arcade and FGC scene.

Of course along the way you unlock costumes, cosmetics, titles, profile customization etc.

Essentially make it all about the early 90's but with modern thinking, make it so that you feel you've been transported back to those arcade days again.

Just a little idea I came up with that I wanted to share, not sure how people feel about it.

It's true that a prequel to the series makes sense since the story of vf is a bit complicated now with characters supposed to be over 50 years old... although we could imagine a sequel like tekken 3 with grandpa akira and new characters.
Going back is perhaps easier to start again on a solid story and lore. Could be associate more easily with other game universes as a coherent whole.

For the name, I will go even further. it would be an opportunity to give a cool title to the game to catch a new audience. Let's do "cool title" as main title and "virtua fighter" as a subtitle so everyone could be happy.

I like the idea of having a completely retro atmosphere in the game as you described it.

Doing for a video games what a series like "Stranger things" does. Bgm with strong bass and very loud drums like sf2.
A look and a retro ui, yes it could be really nice!

Personally, I find that a quest mode like vf4 is no longer relevant for 2022 and i guess it's very expensive to produce.

Though, i think a great rpg story with some tutorials basics included could be great.

I'd like to think this mode with a lot of interactions and a different scenarios depending on the character choices and decisions :
intro, different paths with difrent choices and decisions and options and different sequence depending on the choices, cut scenes, good endings, bad endings, etc.

Of course a more complete tutorial should be added for players who justwant to go straigh ahead.


Vilains :

Vf6 must have an excellent boss and sub bosses ! Good vilains generally make good stories.

This is the game's big flaw when compared to other licenses.

Just find a good script to include charismatic characters and bosses already present in the Sega universe like Landi or Shiva for example in the story with some original creations.
Why not doing fan service if it's well done?

Having seen some videos about the lore of vf, there is some very interesting ideas and plots which could be exploited for a "Vf alpha" :

* Origin of the tragedy of Tsukikage (the mother of kage transformed into Dural)

* Origin of the motivations of the martial arts mastering (Lau, Akira, etc. )

* The rise of Judgement 6

* The mentors


About online :

Roll back netcode blabla.

Keep the strength of the vf5us lobby while improving it :

- When nobody in the room, possibility to open a small basic training window against an IA : No decor or vf1 stages, and vf1 skins for that feature.

- I would like for tournaments like the saturday tournament mode for vf5us, that sega gives for winners some 3d trophies with cool and exotic shapes.

They could be collected in a special training room stage associated with the player (a kind of stage with storages for the collections of titles won).

Most of these trophies would be kept indefinitely, others could be temporary or lost in case of defeats and given to the winner. Of course this collections stage would also be playable online to flatter ego of the player and make the competition more attractive and cool.

- Along the same idea, vf5us has a lot of stats for the player but it would be nice to materialize those numbers with some nice pictures, something graphical that would add to the mood and visually give an idea of the player performance and orientation.

- For all offline modes, possibility of being invited in ranking or other compatible online modes

At last, maybe create an application that would detect renegades "only offline players" and give them a 100,000 volt electric shock for deviant behavior...

 

The idea of a retro feeling with 80's 90's art style/ambiant, and the grandpa of Akira, this is not bad at all ! It would be sick, if very well made...

"Worlwide Fighter" or "World Championship of J6" would be good as a new name ?

I think SEGA should go all in with the world championship card (just like Rallye/Motorsport/Olympic Games or the Dragon Ball world tournament). Make it more "official" competition with crowd support and commentor, with media journalists and cameramen on stages, etc (just like Virtua Tennis). I want big stadiums (like football/Tennis or coliseum). I want to see cinematic when the champ gets the cup, the medal, the belt, celebrate on podium or salute the crowd when winning a fight or tourney. Make it more like a show with a goal and the feeling to fight for a real cause (not like VF5FS/VF5US with wild fights only or in nature lol). And still you have the mafia J6 as organizers of that world championship, and for final boss.

All of that would be for the solo or story mode. A career to be Champion. Where you have to win points and credits (for items and costumes), after winning a cup, winning a tournament, winning a league, winning/clearing a special challenge or mission...

But for the next VF, i want a very good netcode and online, or i'm done with this fighting game franchise.

VF roster getting a lot repetitive after all these years. We need at least 5-6 new characters or even more.

My last point maybe will not satisfy people, but i want a "NEW" VF. I'm done and starting to get bored to death with VF5FS/VF5US. I want VF6 to be very different. Maybe increase damage of hits and combo a little bit (almost like VF2/VF3) so when you make a mistake or a bad decision, you pay for it. Nerf the 2P, add 1 or 2 frames to proper punish and to whiff punish online. Nerf the staggers, make it possible to break the staggers online. Add better lows and air moves (gameplay/property). Change the wakeup system and make it more different with every characters. Rebalance VF of course (throws, staggers, damage, range...).

I want new moves, new animations, new rules, more freedom in combo, i want next gen graphics and nice details everywhere...

I want a fresh new start for Virtua Fighter, but only if it still keeps his unique feeling and stay true to his roots, with his skillful and deep gameplay.

 

I think for the next game they should pretty much take everything about past VFs that made them unique and stand out of other fighting games and make them even better!
Such as quest/kumite from vf4
the amazing customization from both 4Evo & 5FS
license challenge and special sparring from 5FS.
unique standard costume design for characters like VF5
the arcade travelling matches aesthetics of 90s/early 2000s of japanese arcades.
Uneven stages similar to VF3 plus DOA2-4's concept
Different environments for each stage that express each character
Singleplayer content a lot of unlockable stuff (because honestly VF needs this treatment back not just being heavily focused on online only)
VF.TV vs. intros should come back for a future VF6
Challenge arcade type from VF4FT and many more stuff can be implemented.

This time for roster i think there should be a step up from VF5 especially that it's been over thirteen years since the last new character was added (Jean kujo). four overall new characters and two characters recycled from other vf media stuff which are gonna be Siba from prototype vf and liu kowloon from the vf anime!! for a total will make six new comers which is good extends enough for the virtua fighter world in my opinion.
I'm not that sure if they could implement rollback if possible? would be cool.

Really like the idea of the whole 90s era feel but would personally prefer mid-late 2000s atmosphere for a modern vf^^! also i wish they don't drop the "Virtua" title because imo it's so iconic for the series. Maybe at least give the game a new cool title that can go along the vf name... so i hope that's the case! other thing that's a must to be added in the next anticipated game is of course a story mode, well I'm not that into story in fgs although wouldn't mind having to see our favourite virtua fighter characters more alive and to see them in action. Um that being said i feel at the maximum there needs to be arcade endings, interaction between characters before fight in some stages and a good writing all that could be done without a proper story mode easily^-^)

 

Is this the 15th or 100th what should be in VF6 thread?
