I'm looking to pick up Shun as an alt (Brad's my main) but have no idea where to begin. There's not much info in his VF5 section... has he changed that much from vf4?

Im no Shun expert, but afaik he has lots of new stuff, namely his new stance(s). And because of this he drinks differently between rounds now. He still retains lots of his old stuff though. I believe /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is harder to followup now but still possible.

If you have played Shun before, then maybe go through the stance-entries to his new sou koku kyuu stance and the back turned sou too. Then figure out the best ways to drink between rounds.

The sabaki attack he gets from backturned sou koku kyuu used to be his main weapon in first versions of VF5 but now its toned down being worse after blocked.

I've never played Shun before, was just seeing if I could use the VF5 faqs to get started.

Humm well Shun is one of THE most complex characters I think. This is because during the course of the match you have to pay constant attention to the amount of DP and what they unlock and how does it change combo height, block stun and what not... Its easy to spam something with him and beat noobs but to get good...that requires lot of Work with Shun. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Shun is one the most rewarding characters in VF5 in my opinion. He more than any other char I've played does pay of alot with time. I've only played vf since 5 on xbox so I might not be the best one to tell you about him. But since there's so few of us I think why not.

I'd recomment that you go through the command training a couple of times.
Quest mode is one of the better ways to learn a moveslist as well. Try to win matches without using the same move twice so you get a feel for the verstility of him. And believe me, he's very versatile. If you play through quest mode, by the time you hit one of the titles you should have a pretty good feel what brings you into which stance. As with most stance heavy chars that is a very important thing to know. These things are not specific to Shun though. In the beginning just use him for a couple of hours and get a feel for him.

A really good thing to do is watch some of SHUs videos
    http://www.stage6.com/user/toodrunk/videos/
He is THE Shun player. on youtube there's Laakira whos also extremly good.

I do agree with you that shun info is very bare bones.
If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try to answer them as good as I can.

    Hmm. Lets see.
An absolute top move is BT SOU /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif which is his sabaki attack. He can enter it through various /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif strings with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif at the end. Fastest way to do it is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif though. If they're not blocking put on the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif which is stomach crumble on normal hit. I usually follow that upp with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif( /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif on 16 drinks.)

Against people who like to low punch punish with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to launch them. Here you can do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif for 4 drinks. Be careful though, a good opponent will know you're vulnerable for a little bit.

Another good attack against low punch/low kick is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif which goes over low attacks and hits mid. It also leaves opponent sideturned.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif(another /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif on 6 drinks) is another very good launcher. Here you can do another one on them or if you notice that they techroll you can use that against them by doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif now when you land and befor you do automatic drink do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and when they get up they should be hit by you again.
Same goes for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. Though I recommend you to use it very rarely since it's so unsafe. I hardly ever hit with it. I only use it if I notice my opponent going into featus position too often(low guard). Which they should rarely do any way since you have the almighty /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (in my opinion)
That's it for now. Have to get to work.

It would be great if LA_akira or someone else could write a Shun guide, its certainly needed! There was one back in VF4 time but Shun has evolved a lot since then.

Also don't forget to look for Itazans matches too! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I've tried looking for itazan matches but haven't found anything consistent like SHU on stage6. It would be awesome if someone did write a guide. We need more active shuns. I'm not guide writing material seeing how I haven't played for very long compared to most people here. I am more than happy to give input and anwer the questions I can though.

hey i've been playing shun as my main since 4evo, so i know some stuff about shun (ps3). do not focus entirely on getting your drink on, but try to learn what you have to work with in the beginning. some useful moves include of the top of my head
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif good reach
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif closing in
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif launch
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif into chou and half circular
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif half circular and if the first kick hit the second is guaranteed, but is punishable

as you get up to speed with shun learn the moves which go into the different stances. also i usually try to aim for around 8 drinks because then a lot of your usefull moves are available. some move which go into imo the most versatile stances bt sou and chou

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif into bt sou
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif into chou btw if this hits you can get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif 8dp for free!
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif into chou
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (hold) into chou
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (hold)

There are some nice moves listed here. I will also try Shun (already worked with him but not professional). What is the best drinking strategy after you won a match? I heard something about /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif - take a drink - and some follow-ups to drink. But that has to go fast, cause it sounds like much inputs to me.
