Inspired by Gaijin-Punch's neato-keen idea for a tournament where you picked random characters to play with, I wondered who here has mastered all chars and who here has a specific bent. In my case:

Lion- Easy win, depending who I'm facing. My #1 guy, I know and can execute most if not all his moves. I press offense and mix it up.

Aoi- My second most skilled and current fave. I don't utilize nearly enough of her reversals, except for my strange ability to nigh-exactly predict when Quest AI is gonna sweep. Good with her too.

So if I pulled either of those cards out, I'd be good. For everyone else-
Akira- I suck. He's slow and ungainly and I don't know jack for him. I'd probably abuse his [8][K][K] and what throws I could learn.

Kage- I'm not bad- I know some combos and how to roll around and shit. He's easy to just start wailing away with, hard to master.

Jacky- A guy I was trying to learn as my second char for a while, so I know some stuff. I freely abuse his [3][P][P][P] and his multi-kick "Yeah!" combo. No technique, but he's easy to win with.

Sarah- See above. I would likely turn into a total Flamingo whore, the same thing I hate the CPU doing. There's nothing more I'd love than to pull off the Gatling Kick Beat on one of my friends.

Brad- I know nothing. Haven't even tried to use him much. I just bob and weave a lot and do some hits. Dead meat.

Shun- I'm better with him, but only know like a sixth of everything he can do. I'd use a lot of his alternate stances, 'specially Choukarou and the hands one, and just be as weird as possible.

Pai- My first VF character. Still easy as Pai. I know Boukotai and Moushouin right off the top of my head. I can still own people as her, but not enough to warrant a mention with the top two.

Lau- YAY FLOATER!! I just pound away and sweep and toss 'em around. I like Lau but I'm a one-trick pony with him. Just hit and hit, no skillz. I'd put up a challenge with him.

Wolf- I hate fighting advanced CPU Wolf's, but I like playing as him. I make constant use of his catch grapple, to human opponent's frustration, but don't know how to use his offense. Pretty easy defeat.

Goh- Suck, suck, suck. I wanted to be good with this guy, but his slowness seems to rival Akira's. I can't even seem to pull off anything out of his catch throw other than shuffling my opponent around.

Jeffry- Another consideration for second char who I'm not half-bad with. I'd get owned pretty easy, tho- I don't know most of his moves, and fast chars would just overtake me.

Vanessa- Another second-char possibility. I LOVE take-down, I LOVE auto-punch parry (I like to go straight to kick, kick, take-down), love a lot of her offense. Hmm, I should use her more. I'm capable of kicking some ass with her.

Lei-Fei: Too many dicking around with stances for me to feel comfortable with, outside of just button-mashing. He ain't bad, but not my type. If I picked him, I'd just combo away and hope I don't blow it.

So, how do you guys stack up?

Wasn't my idea, but I did participate. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm unfortunately have opponent-based win ratios, but here it goes

Inspired by Gaijin-Punch's neato-keen idea for a tournament where you picked random characters to play with, I wondered who here has mastered all chars and who here has a specific bent. In my case:

Lion- One of my top 3. Not really good with him against Jacky or Akira, but can hold my own against the rest.

Aoi- Also in the top three. I've gotten better as I've been using the double-stop a lot, to nickel and dime them down and open up opportunities.

Akira- I'm pretty lame, but don't know the entire movelist. I'm decent at waiting for a decent opportunity, but can't do the advanced stuff.

Kage- Mediocre. I cant' do some of the more aesthetic combos, and I miss-command the [6][2][3][P]+[K] quite a bit.

Jacky- Don't use, so can't say. I think I use him against the CPU twice on Ver. C, and once on Evo. Then played him against a friend when we were goofing around and slaughtered my buddy (who uses Jacky as his main). Moves are extremely easy, and easy to figure out -- never looked at a movelist.

Sarah- I'm pretty lame. I really don't know her at all.

    Brad- Never tried.

Shun- Arguably my most vicious, mainly b/c not that many people use him, therefore practice AGAINST him isn't regular. That definitely helps.

Pai- Medicore -- a bit stronger than my Kage, although my Pai is quite scrubby.

Lau - don't use, but have a time or two -- as with Jacky, pretty easy to figure out and be effective with just a few moves. Doesn't make for the most exciting match, but hey.

Wolf- I suck ass. If I put in some time w/ the movelist I'd be okay, but I"ve never tried.

    Goh- laughable.

    Jeffry- Never used

Vanessa- effective, but not that good. I abuse her bread and butter and go from there. Seems to take me far.

Lei-Fei: Probably my 4th character, although it's not fancy looking at all. I only pull off a couple of 'tricks' a match, and almost now dancing.

    In order of strength.

Goh - My current primary and the character I'm most comfortable with over all. If i was entering a tourny it would be Goh I picked.

Jeffry - Hard to say. I abuse stuff with him against my friends that I suspect stronger players wouldn't tolerate at all. I'm confidant I can pull out a win against average comp with him jsut because of damage potential.

Akira - Used to be a lot stronger, but I still know the character pretty well, and feel l can still sde my way to a win with him now and then.

then there is a real big drop off point and we get to

Jacky - I played him very casually for a couple months ago. I'm a total elbow mind fuck whore, and that's like half my game. But I'm pretty good at it, it's boring but effective.

Wolf - I kind of know the basics, but I suck with him.

Everyone else - no knowledge at all, I'd try and punch>throw my way to victory.

Sarah and me have a lot of fun

everybody else who i learn in about a week or more are my "cute" characters. They would be good for average competition but the in-depth mind games are'nt there and easy to work out, which is why they are "cute"

so if i was to rank my "cute" characters

2-Lau- needs a lot of work tho /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

3-Kage- i try as much as possible to be very machi and extreemly cheep /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

4-Shun- havent played with him in a long time bit rusty

5- Brad- still learning (hopes it becomes my 3rd best character /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

6- Jacky- only cos he is easy to play with

7-Wolf- just cute only for average competition if even that

8-Goh- used to be up there but dont tend to use him nowadays

9- Akira- not cute enough /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

10- everybody else- Aoi should be here but is not cute enough for even average competition /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Brad: My main man! I can whoop most ass with him.

Pai: Used her on beginner to open up all the stuff, Though i find any sarah can whoop my ass when im Pai, and in the end, shes just not as good as brad.

Shun: I suck with shun, but im trying /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

All others: barely used. im still trying to get all the basics for the game litle own all the characters :p

  6. Lei Fei - It's all about Shaolin Style baby! My main man! Something about Wong Fei Hong that makes me want to kick ass and take names!
    Name - Blind Fury

Brad - My secondary character, because he looks like a Thai fightin' version of Tyler Durden with that Hawaiian (sp.?) shirt!
    Name - Mr. Durden

Vanessa, Shun Di, & Pai - My fun characters

The rest - Koreans/Japanese will be laughing their arses off as they destroy me, while I try to use my so called "skillz".

I've only played Lei Fei seriously so far since i started playing the game. I can do all his moves/combos and dance like a mofo. But in Sydney we play ver.a so things can get a bit imbalaced. I generally have problems with characters who are fast and poking (e.g aoi, jacky, lion) cause Lei doesn't have any fast close counter options.

I've tried playing a few other characters causally on the ps2 too. But i'm not good at any of them so here are my impressions:

Jacky: I played Jacky in VF3 a lot. Turns out he's pretty much the same as he was before. Simple moves, simple combos and easy to win with. Not very inspiring to me.

Kage: His moves are very interesting overall. He's definitely one of the best in the game. Too bad i can't play him.

Brad: He's ridiculously poweruly in ver.a but still pretty powerful in ver.b. To me, he's pretty much Akira without the double palm. If he's got a counter combo going he can kill you in no time. Very cool looking too.

Pai: Very fast. Her range is not as good as Jacky's but she makes it up with speed. Very playable.

Akira: Not half as powerful as in ver.a but still a powerhouse. I used to be able to do all his combos in VF3 but now i can't do jack. His knee is interesting and challenging as usual.

    1. Lion's my primary character. I feel most comfortable with his quick flowing style and know his moves pretty much inside-out. I'm at the stage of trying to perfect strategy and maximize combo damage with him. I can do must of his stock combos, but to date I still can't pull-off the following consistently in the heat of a competative match (easy in training mode):

    [2_][6][P] -> [4][4][K],[P]+[K] -> [4][6][P]+[K], [P], [P]

That's my current goal.....consistency with gauranteed float damage, along with making more use of his execllent [2][1][4][P] sabaki.

    2. Sarah is now my second character of choice, having recently replaced Aio. I feel I'm still at the learning stages with her, but know most of her basic moves and can pull-off some decent wins with her. I need to learn some more combos for gauranteed damage and work on entering flamingo at the proper moment in a fight. I must say that I do enjoy playing with her allot...

    3. Aoi. She used to be my faviourite character in VF3 and VF4-pre Evo. I know her game very well but I'm not convinced with my ability to win consistently with her in human VS play. To that end I tend to use her more against the AI, and avoid taking her out at Edinburgh gatherings these days.

And that's it. I have a smattering of experience with Shun, Lau and Pai, but I'd never consider these as viable options in a tournament.

1st .wolf - primary always: Use, Abuse, and Lose. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

2nd .goh - can't hack his linear ass game, but i try anywayz

3rd .jeffry - fun and games, but i only use him according to wolf's style which is really wrong, but i can't be assed to go ony deeper.

    aoi - cute

brad - picked up, then put down after getting trashed

lei - used to be my 2ndary character, but now has dropped dramatically due to contrast in play style.

lion - ver.c style, i have not tried yet in evo

lau - PPP anything, who cares.

pai - use only when i'm doing throw escape challenges for archangel /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    vanessa - never tried

    shun - would'nt dare

kage - too easily mediocore, too hard to be "different"

sarah - no no for me

    jacky - never tried

Well I really have 3 main characters, Wolf (since VF3 days), Aoi (Love this bitch)and Shun (Opponents hate when I use him) in that order. Sometimes the order of this changes from week to week as it's tough to maintain 3 really strong charcters but I try!!!

Messing around wise I go for Jacky (duh! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif), Lau, the others I'm total shit with.
