For us PS3 users who don't have the VF5 online option [IMG]

Are there always players online? (e.g. Tekken 5DR always has some players on line) usually 24hrs a day. So does SC IV

Do top players regularly play VF5 online?
Any Top Players from Japan on VF5 online?

Is most of the online competition mashers, intermediate or
    top players?

Are there a lot of pullers (who pull out if they're loosing)?

I'm curious how the VF5 online on XBOX 360 goes.

How does it compare to Tekken, SC IV, UFC 2009, etc.

Is online the big feature I should be waiting for in VF5R for the PS3 [IMG]

The online code in VF5 is still propably best I have tested as lag goes. Despite me complaining about lag often, its more about lack of players nearby than a problem with the netcode. The online matchmaking in VF5 however lacks something big: ability to decline a challenge. This increases my annoyance with lag about hundredfold because I cant kick graybars from the challenge.

Bit of a mixed bag, tbh. I'm lucky in that i've a good number of people better than me who i get a decent and sometimes great connections to.

I suppose your experience will depend nearly completely on your location and who you will be playing with/against. There are not enough players online to always guarentee good matches.

From what i've heard, cross pacific connections aren't great. Being in the UK, there isn't even a point in my trying a connection to Japan (other side of the world) so i can't really comment about that.

There are a bunch of spammers online, as with any game of this type. I've not really had much problem with pullers and the people who do are well known.

As i've said for me the standard of play is good, but it depends on your level. Maybe some of the better peeps on VFDC can fill you in better.

All in all, i think the online experience is good. Usually fun, but sometimes frustrating.

I don't understand why the question isn't: "Should I take the plunge and get a 360 and VF5?"

I'm thinking you've got something against the Microsoft.

As long as there's action in the Good and Bad Games threads, you can be sure the people posting are also playing. I use those threads to fill my friends list - that way I know when I turn on the 360, I'll see people playing VF5.

I don't count on finding players from outside of VFDC when I look for a match in Player or Ranked.

Note: Quest mode is superior on 360.

Thanx every 1 this is good feedback. Like every 1 else
I'm looking forward to VF5R , I was curious whether the online
for PS3 would be the biggest new feature.

I'm a Playstation fanboy, I have so much invested from PS1 to PS3. I also run a Linux cluster on 4 PS3's using PVM so the PS3 is more than just my gaming environment, I do comp sci research on it too.

Plague, you're right though about me having something against Microsoft [IMG] It goes all the way back to the MSDOS vs Unix
days [IMG] I program in the Unix/Linux/MacOSX environments and Microsoft is definitely the enemy [IMG] I couldn't play VF
on an XBOX 360 (even if some 1 gave me 1) its against my contract [IMG]

But now I have some idea what VF online is all about, when we do get VF5R or VF6 and have online for the PS3, we will be able to add a few players to the East coast connections...

There are always players on, but the level of competition is something else. Nowadays, you'll usually only have 1 or 2 people in your ranking brackets available on a given evening. And if they are pullers/or dmpk specialists, or gimmicky, it can be more frustrating than fun.

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Do top players regularly play VF5 online?</div></div>

In the U.S. yes definitely. But they usually are taken up in player matches, playing other top us talent level players. however they are gracious enough to work you in if you ask them.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Is most of the online competition mashers, intermediate or
    top players?</div></div>

Slide said mashers, but i don't know if htats exactly accurate. I wouldn't say mashers in the sense they suck and mash buttons, but i'd say mindless. most online ranked players are 1 dimensional, and systematic in a bad way. They come up with one thing that works for them, and then fight a new opponent every fight and spam thier tricks and traps, with little thought to the mechanics of hte game. ( i am guilty of this as well). If you prove in 2-3 fights that you have no problem handling this, 70% will disappear and not fight again 20% will keep fighting and keep doign the same stupid thing, 10% will actually adjust. Unranked matches are a little better, if not more of a mixed bag.

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Are there a lot of pullers (who pull out if they're loosing)?</div></div>

Sometimes. i agree, sometimes, but given teh talent pool has shrunk, 1/2 the time you know ahead of time fi someone is going to be a puller or not. the same names, the same players over and over and over.

SCIV's net code is shit. If you can deal with that on 360
    VF will be a godsend.

It is accurate. Alot of you guys just get so caught up into your own flows, and will keep doing the flow that did NOT work in first place, in hopes that maybe some latency will make it connect the 3rd, 4th and 5th time. Most of you guys dont fuzzy, most of you guys dont TE, most of you guys don't even use the guard button, and for damn sure most of you guys don't even punish moves. Instead you're all connection magicians with neverending movelists.

Due to stuff not working like it should, I have no choice but to just sit there and freeze. And be thrown.

Thats why you get this -> see below:

In the U.S. yes definitely. But they usually are taken up in player matches, playing other top us talent level players. however they are gracious enough to work you in if you ask them.</div></div>

Because it's a pain in the ass playing against flowchart connection wizards. Bad habits get developed, trying to combat them, bad habits that don't work anywhere else.

Can't really tell someone that their strategy is whack when they've been "successful" against players that don't know how to deal with certain strings because of a lacking offense/defense, frame knowledge, etc. Is anyone gaining anything in that scenario? Most likely no, aside from a win or a loss.

It takes a shitload of work to get good at VF. It's all about drive and mental stamina imo. These two factors aren't needed to play online. Offline probably will always be superior, where you're put in a room you can't run from. (Well I guess you COULD.) Play without excuses.
