I can't make EVo Vids -- HELP!

Okay, the only thing I've yet to do (which I will tomorrow) is see if the VGA->Video connector is bad. We tried two different machines, and they gave the same results. Bad video, but the audio was okay.

There are two outputs for audio & two for video. The machine that isn't holding the main board is the one we used, as the outputs on the other machine were full.

Assuming it's not the converter, does ANYONE have any idea how to do this? Do I need to split the main signal?

Okay, the converter is screwed, and that's apparantly the only one in Japan I could find. I saw these two on Ebay:

Does anyone know about either of these? Worth getting? Shipping from the states won't be a hassle, as my mom gets good Fed Ex rates.... but they're definitely not dirt cheap.

Well, I wasn't gonna write a reply, but I guess i'll help. There are a few things to check out. First off you have to explain what you mean by the video is bad, do you get any image or is it a blank screen? If you get something typically blurred, streched out, or even looks out of sync (like the video is jumping, or you have lines through it) then its simply the quality of the VGA converter thats the problem. I've used some in the past and generally speaking none were very good. If you get a black image (Nothing on the screen), then either the VGA connecter isn't setup correctly, the Naomi 2 needs some kind of setup via menu to output the signal, or the VGA converter itself is bad.

    Here's a chart

Some video (possible causes for bad video quality)

    Low quality VGA converter

The signal the VGA converter is producing isnt corresponding to the VCR. (like VGA converter is making an NTSC signal, and VCR is recording a PAL signal, If you are using an american made VGA converter this may be your problem)

    No Video at all,

    VGA converter isnt setup correctly
Naomi 2 isnt outputting the signal
lRecording Device is not setup correctly
    VGA converter is bad

Take a look at the above and please elaborate on your situation.

Shou Sama can you chime in and check out your N2?

Hehe -- does Creed have a box? I saw one of those items on Ebay is sold in Japan -- although I don't know where, and it's a lot more expensive. If it's half decent converter, I'll pick it up.

They sell them on lik-sang.com, and beyond that.. . a google search could work. You could also try IRC or an import shop. On IRC, tragic does a lot of work with video editing, and he may have had a hand in actually recording from arcade boards.

I'll ask around and maybe try a few google searches.

I think I'm going to try the one one Ebay, pending it doesn't go too high. I looked on Lik Sang -- seems they've only got up scan converters -- I need down scan.

I could always email Daioh and ask what they use.

Any converter for $100+ is too high a price. A decent one that can convert to PAL or NTSC can be had for under $100. You still havent answered the question of what you meant by video problem. You know you post a question for help. Someone takes the time to write a lengthy reply and you don't answer their questions, nice...

The specific company that is the leader in the US for these devices is called Focus Enhancements. The best bang for the buck would be their TVIEW SILVER-2 SCAN CONVERTER product. It can currently be found for $99.04 on www.pricegrabber.com. I have personally used their Micro Converter which wasnt bad, that was equivalent to the S-Video out on most PC video cards. The TVIEW SILVER-2 SCAN CONVERTER should be significantly better and about $20 higher than the micro converter. Here is a link to their Gold product

    http://www.focusinfo.com/products/tview_gold/tview_gold.htm

You dont need the high resolution of the gold product. The gold one will do UXGA (1600x1280) obviously you dont need to go that high. The Silver one will do (1024x768 and down) Here is a pricegrabber link to the product:

    http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=32551/search=focus%2520enhancement/ut=42415ad3a7cdd19c/

Here is a good one that will do NTSC/PAL, it also comes with a nifty remote. (I forgot that Japan is NTSC too, so you can use either of these two products, you get PAL with this one which is a bonus)

    http://www.startech.com/ststore/searchframe.asp?product_desc=VGA+to+TV+converter&stype=AND

click professional one for $127.99 (MSRP)

    Provantage has it for $80.48

Amazon has it for $84.99 Free shipping in the US, they might have it on Amazon Japan which would save you time.

Thanks for your posts -- I'll check some of that stuff out.

About me not replying -- check my 2nd post. I said that "the converter is screwed" meaning I narrowed the problem down to that -- so why would I need to describe the video? Anyway, it looks like you're trying to watch porn on cable w/ a hacked cable box. I"m sure we've all tried that at one point.

I'll probably order one of those that you posted and see what happens. Hopefully they'll get it here quick.

I went w/ the Startech one, as they have it on amazon, and they're quick. Amazon Japan doesn't do electronics -- only books, CDs, games, etc.

To boot, they won't ship it directly to Japan, so I'll have to ship it home first. Guess everyone will just have to wait a bit.

Cool, it was important to know since some video means the N2 is sending out the signal through the extra VGA port, so theres something coming out. That means the garbeld video is probably just a low quality converter. If it was a black or blank screen, then the problem might not be fixed by replacing the VGA converter and could be something else. Let us know how it goes! /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Yeaupper, will do. Fingers are crossed. I got next-day to my house in the states, and hopefully my mom will excercise her Fed-Ex discount and send them to me 2-day for a reasonable price.

Once that's done, it's capture city!
In the meantime, I've got Bay Area Cup Vol. 3 to keep me busy. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
