I'm a complete noob to 3D fighters. I must learn Goh.

What is a a sitabaki? It sounds like a move with autoguard on certain states, but I can't be sure.

Are there any more Goh videos (or even a tutorial or showcase of all his throws) anywhere? I saw all the ones in the Goh thread, and looked up Akape until I was blue in the face. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Discuss more Goh! My brain swells.

A sabaki is a move that will deflect certain attacks for a period of time during it's start up animation.

For example, Gohou Yuriori /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif will deflect mid punches and mid elbows from it's first frame of animation to it's 15th frame of animation (it has 20 frames total of animation). If it successfully deflects a mid punch or elbow it does 20 damage and gives you +13 frames of advantage (which guarantees stuff like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif etc.)

They are rather useful and important to Goh's game as he has many moves that put him at minor or mid disadvantage in which your opponent will likely attack with stuff like elbows, knees, and other quick attacks.

The VFDC wiki has ALOT of goh information. Including danny13's and the blackbook's amazing combo section (goh does alot of damage in VF5 compared to VF4EVO).

If you are new to 3D fighters you might want work on understanding frames (since they are pretty vital compared to 2D) and understanding evade, advantage/diadvantage situations, and how throws work. Just post up some more specifics and will all be glad to help.

When you successfully sabaki an attack, you'll hear a whoosh sound-- kind of like a DJ scratching a record noise. Goh will brush his opponent's attack to the side and continue to hit with his own attack. They're sort of like active reversals, as a sabaki attack will come out normally irregardless of whether there's an attack to sabaki or not.

Look a few threads down. Or HERE

If you want more info on sabaki, read the section on "Return Attacks" in the VFWiki that I wrote. Here

Just search youtube for Goh vids and not just Akape. If you want more, tough, as no one plays him, even in Japan.

Use the search function and look around in the forum, we don't post pages of info addressing questions just to be ignored again and have the same questions asked again.

I'm sorry. I'm aware of the topics here, and not trying to "spam" or ask the same questions.

That being said, I don't know much about frame advantage or those kind of advantage/disadvantage situations. 2D fighters have moves with alot of recovery ripe for punishment, and fast pokes.

    Are "elbows" >+P?
    Knee >+K?
    Stagger (generally) >, > + P?

How do throws work in this game? Can you throw someone who is attacking, or do they have to be blocking/moving because strikes generally beat throws?

I tried to test some of this stuff on the VF5 demo I got off XBL, but tbh, the AI is way too easy and I don't think it's very indicative of the game. I can mash to victory -- WITH AKIRA -- if I wanted to.

Does Goh have any throws that "sitabaki"?

Elbow (or elbow-class attacks, 14i is usual) inputs depend on character.

    Akira /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Aoi /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    Jeffry /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    Lei Fei /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Lion /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    Pai /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Shun ? (I don't play this cheap overpowered character, JAB!)
    Sarah /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Vanessa DS ws//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif*/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif OS /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Wolf /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

Knees are varied, they come in several speeds and input, but if you're talking about Knee-class attacks (17i launchers), reread the first part of this long sentence.

Staggers, for the most part, come from elbows and sidekicks that connect on crouched opponents. There are various moves that cause staggers on certain hits (aside from on crouched opponents, i.e.: Goh's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif on any hit, and DS Vanessa's ws /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif on CH).

    Throw > Guard > Attack > Throw

You cannot do a regular throw against an attack. It might clash though. Check the WIKI in the link I gave in the other post please.

OMG, accomplishment! Of course the AI sucks, VF is meant to be played with people.

It is Sabaki (I bold'd it in the last post to show you the proper spelling).

Read wiki for the answer, because, as I say again: we do not spend all the time writing resources, hoping that they'll be useful, only for players to completely ignore everything.

    C'mon.

Okay, I guess I'll get a little deeper here, even though I think the WIKI explains everything pretty clearly. I'm a nice guy though.

Sabaki's are generally only attacks or stand only parry animations. They are not throws.

An elbow is a general term for any 14 frame mid attack that has modest frame properties and the ability to stagger.

For Jacky, Sarah, and Brad their "elbow" is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, the also have the luxury of having a follow up to the elbow that knocksdown. Many character's elbows are like that.

For characters like Akira and Goh though, their elbow is a different direction and their's are stand alone single hit moves. Goh's elbow is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, the advantage is that because they are single hit they get better frame stats then the ones with canned endings. Goh's is only -4 on block, 0 on hit, and a whooping +7 on counter hit.

A knee attack is sort of another general term for 15 frame kick attacks or big moves. Goh's "knee" is his tsukikage /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif which will combo for enormous damage on counter hit.

A stagger is when you hit an opponent with a certin move or during a certain state and they get the green/red flashing stick on the screen. This means they are very vunerable to a follow up attack.

You should seriously look up throws in the wiki system since there is alot to them, you should also look up advantage as that's a pretty deep topic.

I just won't bother posting anymore. Everytime I read something from Sebo, I feel a little bit of bile rise in the back of my throat.

Jumping on my case because I mispelled sabaki? You really need a hobby; besides trolling EVERY FORUM ON THE FUCKING WEBSITE.

I'm not blaming the lack of activity and new players on these forums, but it seems very trivial and stupid to show your ass to new players looking for info. I see alot of topics like "how can we get new players involved?"

A: Don't be a dickhead to those looking for info.

    You asked a question.

    I gave info and resources.

You ignored all the info and resources.

Why not let this spiral out of control? It'll get locked that way.

I'll just ignore you from now on. You don't really have much to say besides referencing the wiki, anyway. Your reading comprehension sucks to boot. Which wouldn't be so bad if you didn't misread posts and then get all uppity.

Still, bolding and throwing a bitchfit because I spelled something wrong? Asking for me to be banned because I posted in the wrong forum?

Is any of your posts supposed to help, or is it just mental masturbation?

    Back to Goh.

    I appreciate the help, Unsafe_Dan.

Chill out and take a bit longer to focus your questions. Don't get upset(you did basically ignore the answer to your question, so you deserved what you got). There's a quite large section of the wiki specifically explaining the general VF5 system that a lot of people worked very hard on. This is where you should begin learning, and then find a character that works for you.

This is excellent advice and something new, serious players really should take to heart.

Learning the system is far more helpful/important than learning one particular character.

1HitC, all of your questions have been answered already in the VF5 system wiki.

    1. Scroll this web page up and look in the upper left hand corner.
    2. Find "Site Menu"
    3. Put your little arrow thingy over "Virtua Fighter 5"
    4. It turns into a pointing finger!
    5. Slide the mouse horizontally over to the the drop down menu.
    6. Slide the mouse down to the first option "System"
    7. Click the left mouse button once.
    8. Scroll down about a page, and find "Virtua Fighter 5 System : Part 2"
    9. Click on it once with the left mouse button.
    10. You'll be presented with the answers to all of your questions so far.

If you have a question about something that is not in the wiki, it is still under construction, feel free to ask. If something in the wiki is confusing, feel free to ask for a different, or maybe better, explanation. The wiki might improve because of your efforts, which is a good thing, and should be encouraged, IMO.

I remember a time about half to one year ago that I was calling upon the VFDC regulars to 'prepare' for VF5's entry into the western world by preparing FAQs, etc (I couldn't really do it myself cos I was barely out of newbiedom). I got a lot of negative response, but there were several who has taken my request seriously and have worked in various ways to provide written information to new players like you.

IIRC, Sebo was not particularly supportive initially, but I'm grateful that he (and several others) have made the effort to catalogue such information into a permanent written from like the wiki in VFDC (I've read through some of it and I expanded my knowledge of VF quite a bit too). I've tried to write newbie FAQs for other places, but it wasn't easy, so I can only guess at the amount of work required to make such detailed info Sebo (and others) has gotten up.

Therefore, please give Sebo the respect due and refrain from insults. He did make a serious effort towards answering your queries. There have been much worse stuff flying around here that what you think you've gotten from him.
