Ok...after everytime I lose in Kumite mode i go and Sparr with my character to hone his skills. After that I check his status in Edit and only a few moves have plus and most have minus. What is wrong with my training!!!!!

You probably need to slow down and back up; get your boy out of Kumite and make sure you slowly go through your character's movelist. Make sure the window at the bottom says LEARN after every move you lay on your AI, and have him do that move BACK to you. If you've been putting in a bunch of combos and complicated moves and a question mark is appearing in the window, or if you've shown the AI a move that ended the "round" in sparring, meaning you exhausted the AI's lifebar with that move, the AI will NOT have learned the move. You need to do it again.

here's a more effective way, have him watch replays, and if you see a move or combo you like him to do more press O butoon to it will add on it, if you want him to do a certain move or combo less then press X, replyas are the best way to train your A.I character, i only use sparring when i need to teach my A.I. mid air combos, once your done with these methods go to arcade mode and use your A.I. and see if he can get through the arcade mode without continues, i read an old post about A.I. training and one dude said he lets his A.I play the arcade mode and go to kumite if the A.I at least makes it to jeffrey without continues, so if your A.I. can do better well he's gonna be ready for kumite opposition, the replay works really well in training the A.I i got my A.I. character to hero rank, haven't used him since though, anyways hoped i've helped

I think this fella is having a problem with going to EDIT and
seeing his AI hasn't picked up on the movelist, meaning he
needs to show the AI those moves and make SURE the AI
understands. You do that in sparring. As far as replays go, I haven't
tried them myself. I've been depending more on the Arcade X and O to
teach the AI good and bad. The bloody thing is already guarding better
    than I EVER have.

actually replays are a better way of doing that Lau_Fist, and save more time, like i said sparring is best used for practicing juggles with your A.I., try it, coz its not just the move list that are on the A.I. edit file, there's combos as well.
