Fuck the ipod. Get a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox III...20 or 40 gig model. It supports 3x as many music formats and has voice recording.

I know that you're getting that IPod thingie, but I had a suggestion. I recently purchased a similar hard drive based MP3 player from IRiver, a Korean company that makes various MP3 players. I purchased the IRiver I-HP 120, a 20 gigabyte model.

    Find info here: http://www.iriver.com/index.asp

Basically I recommend this to everyone who has a PC. This thing is a plug and play portable hard drive that is immediately recognized as just another HD when you plug it in. The features are great: it has an internal microphone (and it comes with a directional mic that you can plug in) that can record directly to MP3. Also you can record Line in directly to MP3. The player also has a FM radio that works in Europe, Japan, China and the US. It can play OGG, Windows Media, and MP3(obviously). It has 16 hours of battery life and takes 3 hours to charge. Also, it comes with a nifty, clippable remote with a backlit screen; you can do everything with the remote that you can do on the main device. It's slightly bigger than an IPod but smaller than the Creative Soundblaster Zen by just a little. It's black and silver with a nice, blue, backlit screen. Songs can be sorted by ID3 tag or simply by file/directory format (basic windows stuff). I've had this baby for 2 months and I fricking carry it with me wherever I go. It's got a ton of equalizer settings, a sleep timer, and you can upgrade the firmware online when new versions of the OS become available.

I got it for $350 including shipping, tax, etc. It even comes with a leather carrying case so it doesn't get scratched up. I would seriously recommend this product to all PC users, and I believe that there is Mac compatability too, although I'm not 100% sure.

Anyway, check it out, for those who are looking for a nice mp3 player. The 40 gig one just came out too, but it's a little pricy =) Don't want to steal the IPod's thunder or anything, but I believe that you get a LOT more for your money, simply because of the features. Plus there's no copywriting bullshit or whatever, just plug it in. Simple.

If you have any questions feel very free to PM me.

Apple sucks, I-pod's are okay there are a lot better alternatives, but he likes the I-pod more power to him. So get the silver one. It's a no brainer! Blue is going to be the over-used color. Silver gives it a professional, yet sleek look.

Well i returned my ipod 40gb and after 2 hours of waiting in line with a bunch of freaks, I got the blue mini. It has a good solid feeling with the metal casing. And it's so so small. All the girls were grabbing the pink one, and the guys were grabbing the sliver. The thing feels much much smaller than a normal iPod in my hand for some reason. it's a perfect size for a portable music device. however the smaller screen is a bit hard to read. The whole deal costs me about 350 with dock and remote and all. With just a bit more you could get the 20gb model all inclusive. However for me, the 4gb is plenty and size is what matters. I keep on seeing people on the train waving their iPod around thinking they're cool something. makes me want to tell them to put the damn thing in the pocket before they drop it on the floor. OWNED~

Oh. about Iriver, they are great products. I had an iRiver MP3 CD player before the 350. It has a ton of features and worked great.
But... as far as style, it's far behind, my CD player's remote was great, but it was made of plastic. and the CD player felt it was gonna break apart any minute. Anyways, iRiver is wildly known for their products, great cd players, great flash mp3 players. but it's no iPod~

That's cool and I'm glad you're happy with your decision.

I'm not really into the IPod style myself... regardless of the color or whatnot, I just prefer functionality over style, which dictates my choice of MP3 players as well as Fighting games =)

Everyone's got a damned IPod now anyway =P
