Kage's move, Izuna Otoshi. That name is used in various games all with a similar appearnce for the move. My question is what the hell does it mean? I know it's "something drop". I've tried translators online and I got "It is not, dropping". Those things are never completely accurate due to grammatical differences and such. Anyone know what it means exactly? It's been bugging me recently.

I'm thinking maybe something with lightning, but don't hold me on that.

well im pretty sure it isnt lightning because in most anime subs/dubs ive seen Lightning is more often translated from the japanese word "Rai" (ex. Raichu, Raikage, etc). btw, which word means drop. im guessing it is otoshi, but im not entirely sure.

I looked up the characters, but izuna is in katakana so it's not really possible to just look at them and get meaning. Otoshi does indeed mean drop. Unless if someone can find a link on this, I don't know where the answer will come from.

GarciaINCIDENT, did you have a reason for saying that or was it a guess? I see nothing that would suggest a connection to lightning.

Another word for lightning in Japanese is inazuma, which is not the same as izuna. As noodalls said, izuna is in katakana which is usually used for foreign words.

The first time I came across an izuma drop was in SF2 with Balrog (spanish claw guy).

now that you mention it, that is where i heard it too. btw, do you mean vega or balrog. vega was the claw dude and balrog was the boxer.

Names are different in other markets. M. Bison was the boxer (play on Mike Tyson). In the US, they decided that was too risky (I'm guessing).

Izuna is a name of a shinto god that resembles a tengu and rides a wolf or something like that. so yeah.. they probably got the name of the throw from this guy.

He was probably awesome at catching people in mid air and slamming them to the ground.
