Check these out if you haven't yet!

    First, the GameSpy review 97/100
    http://www.gamespy.com/reviews/august03/vf4evops2/
Says on the heading of the PS2 section "The latest in Sega's series of beat 'em up masterpieces blows away the competition. "
    Awesome!

Second, review of Evo at IGN.com!
    http://ps2.ign.com/articles/432/432636p1.html

    They said a lot of cool stuff I thought, the best is in the final scoring;

    9.5 Gameplay
The deepest, richest, and most rewarding fighter out there. Play this or take real fighting lessons - you'll learn just as much either way.

    9.5 Lasting Appeal
You may not live long enough to master every character, go through their respective quests, earn all their items, and tackle the 10th Anniversary game.

    Awesome

For the OPM September issue, they had on the cover "SC 2 vs VF Evo; The Battle of the Best Fighting Game Ever." I don't know if I missed something (I haven't read every page yet) but both reviews I thought were rather weak and not much of vs comparison at all. Seems like they forgot to do what the cover said! Anyways both games got 5/5. At the end of the SC2 it says Namco reclaimed the throne!!! What a bunch of crap!!! But the heading on the Evo review said "Improvement on the best fighting game ever"...

Also of interest in this issue, there is a playable demo of SC 2 with Cassandra and Astaroth where you can fight through 4 characters. There is also a playable demo of Silent Hill 3 and several other cool games.
Also, if anyone plans on getting SC 2 (not me), there is a $5 off coupon for Best Buy in the Sept. EGM magazine.

Only a few days til Evo!!!

Oops the SC 2 demo has Cassandra and Nightmare, not Astaroth.
There is also a poll on IGN.com PS2 section that asks; Which is your favorite PS2 fighting game? Its a tie between Evo, TTT, and DOA2 (LOL). Go show your VF support!

Just voted and MK:DA is barely beating us out now.

How can MK:DA even be a contender. That game was crap. People are so easily amused by lame stories and oodles of blood.

Actually I've quite enjoyed playing MKDA (see the Czech MK pages CZMK ), and I even dare to say that the graphic level of MKDA is definitely better than T4 and even VF4 in some aspects. I quitted playing it because of the genius sidestep system. /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif And the combo system also wasn't my cup of tea.

Yep, I got the issue quite some time ago.

I too thought their comparison was weak. Basicaly it was "Vf4 is so great, very deep" and "Sc2 is fun" and then they claimed that Sc2 was slightly better than Vf4:evo.

That sc2 demo is a joke. My first time playing I owned them all with the big guy. Talk about balance ( I couldnt do anything with the girl).

That's not a balance issue, it's a crappy AI issue. SC2's default AI setting is impossibly stupid. As far as tierage goes, Nightmare actually falls pretty far down the pile. Cassandra takes some effort, but she's definitely tournament level.

I'm affraid the ballance issue of SC2 plays its part, not only the AI settings. The fact is when you play with some butcher like Nightmare and choose the right one-slash-kill or in-a-second-healing weapon, your opponent simply doesn't stand a chance. That's what I call "fun" /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I just pulled out my issue again.

For one thing, The SC2 page has Voldo, the half mummy half monster guy with claws. VF4: Evo has the half naked Brad in a rather awckward position. Gee, what do you think looks better?

The screenshots are horrible. All the Sc2 ones show some action, while the Vf4: Evo are just punch, kick, kic, punch. Gee guys, how about using something other than one button to play.

What game won the poll? I couldn't support VF since it's changed. The current poll is, "Which Silent Hill was your favorite?"

Speaking of MK:DA, while it had some decent innovations that separated it from the rest of the MK series, I agree that it shouldn't even have been a challenger in the poll.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, of course the extra weapons unbalance the game. That's why they only let you use them in extra mode. No tournament etc allows them. They're not really relevant in a discussion of SC's balance regardless since they arent' available in arcade or tournament play where tireage is actually determined. So... I'm not sure how saying "I dinked around against the AI. The game's unbalanced since I won with Nightmare, but had trouble mashing with Cassandra." indicates that Nightmare is actually overpowered.

It'd be like someone watching an Aoi player get a perfect on a scrub then say, "Aoi's the most powerful character in the game. VF's got balance issues."
