Ok, before someone come out and say use the search, I did, I put most play character, player usage, statistics and nothing. If there was one it probably was done ages ago and probably before evo so its a fitting question.

I'm sure the Akira's and Jacky's are near the top but I would like to see or read about who is up there and who is near the bottom.

    In my opinion?
Jacky then Akira, as for the rest? No idea

If I were to guess I would say probably Jacky too because he is much easier to play with than Akira is and is still deadly. Then comes Akira then Kage. I'm not sure about the middle but from the videos I see and from people I play with Vanessa (which i like), Lei, seems to be the least played.

I think everyone at least tries Akira before they say fck it. After that I use Jeff and Wolf and sometimes a little Vanessa. But Akira is my favorite in the last two years. I remember playing team battle an winning in like 5:05 and the guy saying Zen! at the end, but I havent used Lau since then.

I was reading an interview on this site about some korean players, turns out that the least played character is shun di.

I could see that, seeing as he really starts to shine after 10 drinks and that could be a lifetime in a heat match, especially with certain mosves that sobers Shun.

What does this have to do with character technique and training.

Despite what it seems like, it would actually finally picking a character and training with him/her. It is funny after so long (played a little VF2, never played 3, and played a lot of 4 and evo and I still can't have a consensus "this is my character." That is why sometimes I love to read the "tiers" type of threads. But I notice that here people immediately shot down any type of conversation that might include tiers. The way I see it, if you don't like a topic just don't respond to it, no need to go and try to make someone looks stupid with that type of reply. Everyone has their reasons to why they make a post.

As for my reasons, I like to pick people who aren't necessarliy picked the most, Nor do I like to pick people who are "best" and I know there is a lot of balance in this game but (I) believe that a few consistently comes out on top.

So basically for me it comes down to Akira- who I like to play with because I believe he is the most balanced guy as far as great defence, great offense character in the game and somehow when ever you play with him you get a satisfying feeling. But I still can't do that darn DLC, and rarely do the knee, and I'm hit or miss with the SPoD. Also He is played by too many people and that kind of turns me off a bit.

Vanessa- I immediately liked her in VF4 and tried to make her my best character. In Fact I almost feel like she belongs to me, like when I play against my friends they often think twice about picking her because its like they know that is my character. I like her balance Defence and Offense game as well. She is also not played by too many people, rarely do I see any movies with her, nor do I see a lot of tounaments where there are a shitload of vanessa's around. I like the feeling of taking a character that isn't picked that much and making him/her deadly. But I was dissapointed with the removal of her 1P costume and that kinda decreased the personal looked to your character, I kinda have no attachment to that 2nd costume or any of her kumite items. And finally I would like a bit more of a juggler.

Pai- By now you will know that I like balance characters- she is very offensive but despite how some noobs think, she is also very defensive if you so desire. I also got the best record in quest with her. But I also notice that against human players I just can't seem to be consistent with her, and some of her lag time is killing me.

Lau- Obvious Offense but damn is he fun to play with. There was a point when I droped vanessa and Akira and Pai and started using lau and I must have went on a 10-15 game winning streak against my friends. I love the juggles that he is capable of, love his costumes, and love that AAAYEYHHHH that he scream when he does that spin kick of his. Throws mean a lot of me as well and I love his throws (love vanessas as well). But It is just not my style to be so offenssive, it is weired but in Football I love being a running back and the glory it would give me but when I'm at Cornerback or Safety (couple games only) It is personal for me. I probably sound stupid but my heart can't go to an extremely offensive person like that.

Aoi- Love the defense obviously, other than Akira and Vanessa, I probably switched to her the most. and early on I start doing good (because people have to now adjust to fighting against her. But in the long run, she is too much at a disadvantage, Weak Combos, Few consistent jugglers, gut collapse which i love about vanessa is too slow with both of hers. In the end you could never be too defensive, what you can be is too "unoffensive" and that is what she is and I always seem to switch from her again. But I must say that I'm always tempted to try and go back and play with her.

Others- I love Kage's costumes but I don't like his fighting style, Jacky is too offensive and I just never had an appeal for him, I don't like BIG characters but I did for a brief time experimented with both in this game. Sarah is so annoying to play against and sometimes I get a quick let me see if I could play with her but nah she is not for me. Recently I've been flirting with Goh, despite no reversals he is a big defensive person, I love the gut collapse, and yeah there aren't a lot of juggles but the opperunity to juggle comes with that wonderful knee when MC just like Vanessa has. In VS. matches though, I'm not really feeling that swipe catch move though. THe really painful throws out of it takes too much time and seems to be escaped too easily. The rest like Lei, Lion, or whom ever I miss, I just never even once had an urge to play with them because I don't like their style.

Well that was a longer post then I intended, but despite how stupid it might sound It does mean something to me and will finally (hopefully) lead to a character that I could keep as my fave and start heavily training with.

i think what arch is trying to say is "is this the right forum" for these *conversatons*... in my oppinion, i dont think it is. for these "reply if you feel like a chat ~ but hey, it's still VF oriented" threads, i'd say to do it in junky's jungle. if you want to discuss "character technique and training" then post here.

    it's that simple.

    Right. Thread moved.

I don't think there are any single or universal answers to the original question. Obviously, it will vary from region to region, though you may find popularity trends around the place.

If you search on some VF.Net threads, I think GaijinPunch used to post stats on character usage as maintained by VF.Net. Personally, I don't think anyone should choose their character based on popular opinion, whether it'd be good or bad. You should go with a character that appeals to you and, more importantly, is fun for you to play with.

The only reason i posted it was because it had nothing to do with character training I see alot stupid threads around (rustybolt) and i didnt mean to pick on this one, sorry if it looked like i did but tier threads do not belong in the character technique and training.

I think I have narrowed it down two Akira and Vanessa, just today I got the itch to go back to Akira but I didn't get a chance to play because I actually had first day of class today and I went to lift afterwards and that drained my energy. I still like Akira's Style better But considering everything from the ease to do moves, and the fact that I am a lot better at this point with Vanessa I'm still torn.
