Interesting Topic - Purposely Getting Knocked Down

    I posted this previously in a Good Games thread and thought it would get more notice here. It started with me mentioning with Shun that I sometimes purposely go into a move that will make me instantly fall to the ground in order to avoid getting comboed or flowcharted. Please read on and respond! If anyone has any similar situations they know of with their character I'm sure everyone would like to hear it.

    Well, hopping will do it but it's not instantaneous because the game needs to wait until you're actually off the ground (not sure how many frames that is - does anyone know?). I actually do this, sometimes a lot, because getting knocked down is better than being flowcharted! Also a bonus is that damage received is 50% when you're in the air.

    One of the main times I do this is when it's too late or I'm too lazy to guess if my opponent will do a high or low rising attack. Plus Shun's wake up game is just so damn good, and fun! If the opponent does a high attack you get hit and it's not a big deal. If they do a low attack you get to jump kick them and usually get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. [notice that yes, I did use the hold method for down/forward since the opponent would be in the air] =)

    As for other moves... I'm not quite sure. I don't really have a substantial knowledge for other characters, but I'm pretty sure there aren't many.

    The main difference between hopping and the move I mentioned in the previous post of Shun's is that once Shun enters that command, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, the very first frame is considered to be in a handstand state which results in an instant knockdown. Being knocked out of a hop does have an advantage though - you can tech roll!

    I would think with Lei's multiple stances and attack arsenal that he must have something like this. Other than those very rare times this comes in handy, the main reason I brought this up is to avoid Shun's hook punch after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. I've never seen any other character avoid this so I'm not certain. I think in VF3 & VF4 (not sure about VF5) that you could hold /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif after being thrown so the float from the hook punch wouldn't be as high. Denkai has done this to me before but it's possible I entered the hook punch command late, or lag.

    Can't Shun eat a back throw for going into that laying down stuff though?

    If you press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (either kick) the game does consider him back turned. The best thing to do there if you're anticipating getting punished is just not push /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and go for normal throw reversal.

    Yes. The main topic of this thread was actually not really about pressing guard to lay down, it was referring to purposely doing moves which result in instantly being knocked down to avoid being hit by a combo or flowchart.

    An example would be if Shun does /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif which is his handstand move, and if someone uses any attack either right when I input or while he's standing on his hands, he falls to the ground. Hopping also invokes this.

If the attacker would try to combo with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, the sceond P misses as the defending shun falls down. Soon after many shun players would either switch to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif as it all scrapes the handstanding shun on the ground. I "accidentally" figured out the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif escape from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif around june 2007 and showed itazan, shu, murabito and gouhairoushi and then the strats after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif changed again.

    I also forgot to mention, that shun vs shun and I think jacky vs shun, if jacky or shun does the throws that turn you sideways (ie: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif , you can /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and go under a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif during your animation. This also beats a throw if they went for that as well. Its hard to do but it surely works.

    Heh, I remember using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif with Tatsuki and he would just forward dash into my back until the move was over and then I got back thrown. It looks hilarious watching him just repeatedly ram you in the back with forward dashes, but you have to do that because the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif keeps advancing away.

    yes but you should mix it up,... do the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif throw from behind instead of doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif if you think hes gonna ram you! :p
    I usually mix up /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to roll away or just back turned /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif as they might either try to run forward to beat /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or charge /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to beat the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

    Or how about one of his hardest to hit moves - BT /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. The first part isn't hard but if you can use Shun's head as a weapon, more power to ya! =)

I was quite upset about this. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

    After playing Kingo's Eileen for 6h hours straight yesterday i can say with confidence that this is a viable tectic for Eileen too. I hit her out of Zenk, i tag some minor damage; she hits me from Zenk, i lose 1/3 of my lifebar.

    Tagging eileen out of zenk should make the eileen player cry. Seriously she's the lightest character in the game and she's at a hight in the air that you'll rarely see her at out of TFT. There are some devastating combos you can do against her if you P her out the air.

    a.k.a. I don't think it's a good idea for eileen to use it with the plans of getting knocked out of it.

    I run this alot. Lei-fei has a down move, and with my other chars you'll see me just randomly jump at you. lol its addicting /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Screw your max damage.
