You mean, "why aren't the VFDC boards filled with inane discussions of sexual preference like the SC2 boards?"

Good question. I bet if you thought hard about it, you could figure it out. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I can give you the two main reason why most people are older.

First, competitive fighting game circles involve lots of travel, lots of travel, and lots of money spent. Most kids 15-16 arent going to drive three states to go play a fighting game, hell most of them cant drive. Or how about going out of the country. Most top players travel to asia to play top asian competition.

The second reason is this, VF is not a game made for the american A.D.D stricken short attention span. It takes concentration and actual practice to get good. Most american kids quit if something is too hard. VF is a difficult game, but that was makes it so awesome. This about it, which would you rather play Trivial pursuit kids edition with question like "what color is the sky" or the trivial pursuit masters edition. You see what im saying. And because of this learning curve, it takes a more disclipned and mature mind. Im not saying that kids are stupid or anything like that. Im just saying that the average american kid will go for flashy simple Soul caliber over complicated in its simplicity VF.

329 days in I can say the ol' thirties aren't that bad. It certainly beats the everlivin shit outa waiting for the axe to fall at 29. It was like techrolling a KD vs Lei Fei and watching the arrow punch charging into your back. Lei Fei has diablical backstagger punishments for illadvised TR on crumbles. To make things worse, he scrapes so well you wanna risk it sometimes and BAM! 30 hits and on the same day your dad has a heart attack. What the fuck do I do now? Mortality is a mutherfucker and I'm on it's list. Moves make you feel like this in VF. SPoD, TKoD, MC floats, goddamned Giant Swing & Shining Wizard. They move your stomach.

    And then there's elation.

My father has an internal difribulator (think of it as his Option Select) attached to his heart. When his pulse races and grows faint, CRACK! Shocked back to life. Every time this happens it makes my dad feel great. I"M ALIVE. Like getting stance dependant on that MC yoho float on Pai. But then there's worry, cause she still has lp lifebar and your ol' doublepalm been acting up. Will you live or will you die this time? Condenses life into bursts between bouts with death. 30 is okay. Pai is vicious. Akira is getting there. Second week of August. Pomona. Little bursts of life.

    hehehe

I'm thinking this probably belongs in General, if anywhere.

Other people have noticed this before too. It's possible this is because VF is a pretty deep game and require more dedication and a longer attention span than what you'll find in the average teenager. The game isn't flashy either compared to a capcom game so you don't get a lot of kids getting into it at a very early age here in the US.

Also, VF1 was released a decade ago, so if you're 19 when you first got into VF, you're 29 now. Make sense right?

There are plenty of other places to go if you find the people on VFDC too laid back and mature /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif ... maybe try the gamefaqs forums or something.

Not only that, but let's say that you are like 16 or 17 now, that's means that you were like 6 or 7 when VF came out. Realistically not too many people of that age were playing VF at a sophisticated level of play, let alone playing it at all.

When alot of people started out playing video games, VF wasn't very popular internationally, as say other fighting games were (and other games in general).

VF internationally outside of VF.Net requires some sense of maturity and respnsibility, as you can't just walk to the arcade to find a VF machine, and game is not online, so you either play Kumite/Quest or for some people almost never, VS mode, which requires that you organize an event, or have friends who also play VF.

Though I have yet to see a site equivalent of this level for another fighting game, I mean it's not like there are many MK:DA leagues out there....... /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

To Sanjuro, That really is a hauntingly evocative piece of prose. I applaud your honesty and courage. If you have any other work that you are willing to share with others I would love to read it.

You don't really need to know, and it's not like it really matters, if you want to know just give a really good reason, or try PM'ing me.

Do you honestly think I want to post info about myself for others to see? No. It is easier to tell the person who wants the info, not those who don't need it, not that I am convinced you need it at all anyways.
