I know its been joked around with a lot, and I really think AM2 was really playing with the subject, but the question truly remains, is she... you know... Not there's anything wrong with that. I mean she's not off to the point of Lion or anything (please excuse the Lion dig, I'm just kidding).

Where was I? Nowhere important I bet. Her actual storyline involves her entering the tournament just to 'protect' Sarah. That seems a bit odd to me that, rather than make her own storyline she'd be interjected into Sarah's. Its apparent that AM2 was trying to put these characters together in some way. Oh those naughty exucutives.

Vanessa's butchy (not a misspell) attitude mixed with her interestingly appealing physique and storyline really makes the mind wonder, what really is AM2 planning? Hmmm. Anyways, maybe I'm insane... or am I? /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

 

Well, as long as we're on the topic of 'purpose for entering the tournament'... I think Pai has the worst 'purpose', to beat her dad and get koen-ken (I think) I mean that's just horrible compared to some of the others'. Kage, to save his mother, Wolf, to... stop his nightmare from coming true, Shun, to save his pupil, and so on. But mainly, I think the purposes to 'proove themselves' (which include Akira, Lion and more) are relatively unsmooth storylines.

Its sad that VF doesn't break the link when it comes to this but, I think that all fighting game storylines are very much underplayed. I can see how, due to the fact that they are trying to make the best possible fighting game they can, but when a fighting game reaches its 4th or 5th incarnation (or in Capcom's case its 30th) I think its time to really start exploring the fighters actual backround. I like how VF has stuck with a low amount of fighters , comparitive to other fighters, and I think it would be a great step for them to start really going in depth with the story.

does anyone else find this kind of post repugnant? She's a fucking video game character dude, she has no sex life. The character's life and personality traits are limited to what you see on the screen.

I also don't think there's any indications that sega's designers are trying to get cute by throwing in clues about character's sexual preference. The constant jokes about jacky or lion or brad being gay are also just that... jokes. Sega isn't going out of their way to make a character seem gay, western countries are just going out of their way to yell "homo!" ... because we're so fucked up and uptight about it that a high voice in a male is a signal to go into a retarded swinging dick routine.

I wish people would stop speculating about stupid shit like whether X character is gay or whether jeffry likes watermelon or whether akira was a CS major. Christ. When did junky's forum stop being about gameplay related issues?

I was in the middle of typing how laid back on sexuality I am when I figured, who cares. I love vanessa as a character, I just think her storyline needs a lot of work. As do quite a few other people in VF.

Here's a question. is there any way to submit idea's to AM2 in any way? If so I'm sure I would be firing off an email or letter every day. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

game first. story second. the story's a bit dry but i think sega left most of the character's backgrounds and stuff to our imagination. its not something that bothers me.

yea but then that would be going to the bizzare and twisted world of ggxx, with its 12 year old boys dressing up like girls, vampiers, whores with guitars, and a girl with a symbiote on her head... nothing wrong with it tho, ggxx is a really good 2-d one of the best IMO

Personally, i'm glad VF's story is shallow/under-developed. Much better than having a lame soap opera story like Tekken, or an incredibly redundant story like Soul Calibur (not to rip on Namco games or anything).

Although if they turn Vanessa into a lesbian i'll want to see a CG movie of her and Sarah dyking it out.

Anyways the only character i would place under homo-suspicion (not that there's anything wrong with that) is Lion. There's so much gay symbolism associated with him that it makes you wonder if that was actually AM2's intent.

He doesn't still have the Eiffel Tower hat, does he? (cringe)

I think I have to go with 1k1k, the shallow story doesn't bother me either. A good deep storyline would be nice, but I don't see how AM2 could pull it off. A good storyline needs to develop over time like the MK series. The MKA content kicks ass. But, I'd rather they be safe with the story than doing something stupid.

I guess I would agree on having a storyline that was vague than a storyline that was stupid. But all making a good story would require is hiring a writer with some talent. I've played final fantasy so I know there MUST be a good writer somewhere in japan!

Then again, after so many lifeless incarnations of street fighter I'm beggining to have my doubts.
