That's right folks, the Step 1 guides are making a comeback!! I've been receiving a lot of requests for Step 1 guides, and ever since NYC I've been psyched about talking VF4, so I thought, what the hell. I have papers, projects, and exams to do anyway.

This series of Step 1 guides are a little different from the VF3 Step 1s in the sense that they are not exactly for pure beginners, but for players with some working knowledge of the game looking to get started on a particular character. They'll have the kind of stuff that I look for in guides/FAQs when starting out on a new character in any fighting game: important moves, staple combos, info/tidbits that would be hard for me to discover by myself in casual play, and some advice to get me started and pointed in the right direction. That's the kind of stuff I hope to cover in Step 1 guides.

I can't guarantee a Step 2 or 3, or what will be in them, but I'm guessing Step 2 will incorporate frame data, a more complete list of combos, and more detailed information that were not mentioned in Step 1 or discovered since its publication.

The flowchart section for this Step 1 is still missing, but the rest of the guide is somewhat complete. What I'm hoping you guys can do is to read it through, give me some feedback, correct my mistakes, and weigh in on some of your insights/knowledge of Jeffry and VF4. Uber thanks!!

Added Jeffry links to the document and some combos that I missed.

If anyone knows any pages or guides for VF4 Jeffry (even in Japanese) that I should link to, please voice up!

P.S. TBzone's download page seems to be...down. I'll be linking to the Jeffry clips there though.

thanks ice that was great fun to read... I haven't played Jeffry seriously since VF2, but I think you've inspired me.

As for feedback -- what's the difference between KD and knockdown? I did some searching but couldn't find it. Maybe you could add a little terminology section at the start to make it easier for dumbasses like me. You might put DEU in the same section (you do explain what this is, but it would make it easier for newbies).

    Should this:

    Arm Breaker :: b,f+P+G or f,b+P+G :: 60 :: ***

Be tagged as a side throw?

Anyways, a great read. I'm gonna give Jeffry a shot next time I play.

    grib.

Hey grib, thanks for the feedback.

KD is kuzure down, which when the guy crumples to the ground (unrecoverable). Go to the VF4 Jeffry Questions, where the KD is broken down into three types.

By knockdown, I assume you just mean when the opponent is floated and falls to the ground?

Oops, thanks for the side throw thing.

As for the glossary thing, that's a great suggestion, and I think what I'm going to do is maybe make one or update a pre-existing one, and link to it in all the Step 1 guides.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who PMed me to give props for the guide!

    VF4 Jeffry "Specialists?"

LOL, no worries, I'm not going to use that terminology. However, I am interested in perhaps compiling a list of Jeffry players who wouldn't mind having their e-mails published on the Step 1 guide to answer questions from newbies who are to shy to post on the forum. This is purely voluntary, and I won't add that section in unless I get at least a few responses.

    Any takers? LittleWild? Rodney? Rich?
