The main reason for playing with stick are arcades. If you play VF at the local arcade too, you can't really be at your best if you're a pad player. Playing with stick is also more fun...in a way. Pad feels so "boring" afterwards. Otherwise a stick won't bring you anything new IMO. There are lotsa great pad using players worldwide. Only a few things are harder to do with pad, like Akira's knee (bet you didn't see that coming... *wink*), but that's about it. Stick ain't better than pad. And vice versa.

(I use a stick myself, even tho I'm 100% console player.)

I began to get into Evo a little more than a week ago. I'm a 6th dan with 416 wins and 105 losses, and I've noticed the areas I've increased my skill in. I guard too often though and fall susceptible to throws. It's difficult for me to enter TE's as is, but it seems my d-pad is becoming less sensitive.

I've always been a console gamer, so I don't know the benefits of a joystick. Would it be wise to go ahead and get one?

After looking of Catch22's site, I think I might just build one. I have a friend who could make a nice underlay, but I need some material. If someone could give me links for good VF pictures/wallpapers, it would be great!

Dood no way, Akira's knee is hecka easier on pad. I haven't pulled off Akira's knee more than 10 times ever since I switched to a SCII Hori Stick.

Well the majority might disagree... Anyway, like I said - stick isn't better than pad. Nor vice versa.

Pad or Stick, it doesnt matter, can't we all just get along! Anyways its all about prefference. After a bit of trying I find it much easier to play on a pad (My reflexes are faster and I dont even hve to think about moves since I know the 'feel' of a pad), though I will keep practicing on the stick just to be good when I play in an arcade, thats always a plus

i feel sticks are better for the simple reason that it moves faster, for example, Goh' s [8][7][4][1][2][3][6] / [2][1][4][7][8][9][6] [P]+[G] is MUCH easier done with a stick, than having to run your thumb across all the pad hoping you get all the keys, and is less harsh on the fingers. sticks also allow you to perform combos and attacks that require you to press buttons like [6][2][3] [P] easier or harder bigger combos. i also enjoy the bigger buttons on a stick consle, not to mention, it allows your movementsto be MUCH quicker. just IMO

Actually, I find doing the [6][2][3] motion is easier on pad.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one. Now, I'm still having trouble adapting to my stick , but I was at one of my mate's the other day (didn't bring the stick), and I could do those 270's all day long. One thing you were painfully right about, though, my thumb's soar still /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've JUST got my stick, so i aint no stick freak, I WAS a damn pad user till now. but damn man, after 6 blisters and a couple hundred [8][7][4][1][2][3][6][P]+[K]'s, you tend to sop liking pads.
